For some reason, this Savers location is always a lot better than the other one in Norwood. It's maybe not as squeaky and new, or as organized, but I constantly constantly find very nice stuff here. I never ever find anything at the other one. In fact, it's so good that I'd venture to say that it's even better than essentially every thrift store in the universe at this point. I have been going to this West Roxbury location since it opened, and was moved from up providence highway. PRO TIP: the awesome little independent convenience store across VFW highway has a hell of a italian sub, and Richies italian ice. I had been going there for at least ten years. Both stores are amazing amazing examples of what second hand stores can have. Prices used to be much more bargain-basement. I also feel like the merchandise quality has gone up? But maybe I just know how to spot the best items with more thriftsperience under my belt ;-D Things I commonly look for and find include items from top quality men's labels such as Brooks Brothers, J. Crew, Bill Blass, Ralph Lauren. I buy a lot of dress shirts, wool jackets, tweed sport coats, blazers, and really nice ties. You will have to go often, and in that pursuit, you may even have some trips that are better than others, but in general this store rarely fails to disspoint. I think i've walked away empty handed three times ever, and been a grand total of a hundred+. In my weekly thrifting rounds I frequent 4 or 5 other stores , and I always find the best stuff here by a large large margin. I also find a lot of stuff at Urban renewals in Allston, but the quality level is much lower in general. The Savers prices have gone up substantially on a lot of the nicest fashion label stuff in the last couple years so, but a $150 Brooks Brothers shirt for $19 is still a pretty good deal for me. I recently found a Brooks Brothers blue madison blazer there that goes for around $650 these days for a mere $10. All the pockets were still sewn shut LOL. I have pulled out probably ten different (divine) Harris Tweed blazers from the sport coat rack. I like the place so much, in fact, that i'm going to go there right now just after hearing how good it sounds in my review. read more

Especially with name brand merchandise that you can buy new at Marshall's, Walmart or any other store. Savers if you read the reviews, you are a thrift store. Stop hicking up the prices. More treasure than trash. Some very desirable items come in every day, and it's up to you to find those gems. On certain days they even offer discounts up to 35%! This is a large Savers location, especially considering its footprint in Boston proper. (Norwood is maybe a little bigger but I find more unique and interesting items in West Roxbury.) Some types of items tend to be pricier than others. I don't know how they charge $3 for a calculator that doesn't have a battery -- the battery would cost more than a new calculator! -- but furniture and toys are a steal. I can't go here without buying something. Savers is kinda dangerous like that. Clothes from thrift stores can be a little dicey, and Savers is no different. I've bought sweaters with holes for $10, though that's standard in the thrifty category. Savers is, IMHO, the most reasonably priced thrift store with the highest quality items. Many items are in perfect condition/completely unused! For like $2. Meanwhile, Goodwill has no problem selling you a non-functioning stereo for $10. Odds are you can find one at Savers that actually works for half the price. They get new stuff in everyday, so you never know what awesome thing you'll find here. If nothing else, finding the gems among all the trash is a wicked fun shopping experience. Over the last several years of scouring through every thrift store in the area, Savers has been the place where I've had the most luck. While my tastes have changed over the years, I have still been able to find lots of clothing and accessories to fit my changing style. The prices have increased since when I first started going here in high school, but this definitely hasn't dissuaded me from shopping here. Also, they do have a couple 50% off everything days a year, which is nice. The store is organized in several sections: women's, men's, children [one section for girls, one for boys], luggage, toys, electronics, housewares, furniture, bed & bath, accessories [scarves, purses, hats, gloves], jewelry, books/music. I think I got all of them... Each clothing section is sorted by size and then by color, which helps if you have something in particular that you're looking for. Likewise, each section is divided into sections for articles of clothing [for example, in the women's section, there are sections for pants, jeans, shorts, dresses, suits, skirts, vests, tank tops, blouses, blazers, jackets, shoes, bathing suits, t-shirts, sweaters]. However, I usually go and spend an hour or so, sifting through aisles of clothing, in hopes to finding a gem. Most of the time, I end up with a few lovely items. For those of you who are crafty like me, you have more options with clothing, seeing if you find a dress in stellar fabric but is a few sizes too big, you can use the fabric and perform a little bit of fashion surgery. Ta-da, a new mini-dress that fits! There are five or six dressing rooms in the front of the store, which is a luxury in the world of thrifting. There used to be more mirrors throughout the store, however, there is only one in between the dressing rooms and women's shoes. Some sweet things that I've scored at Savers: - a red Yamaha SHS-10 keytar [$5.99] - toys section - a plaid suitcase [$3.99] - luggage section - a pair of tortoise-shell Wayfarer knock-offs [$1.99] - housewares section [this is where some of the eyewear resides] - a brand new Styrofoam head for modeling wigs [$2.99] - in the front of the store - the perfect pair of black leather slouchy boots [$6.99] - women's shoes - plus a ton of blazers, skirts, dresses, earrings, scarves, and more! Customer service-wise, Savers isn't too great, however, I really have yet to encounter a thrift store with exceptional customer service, so I can't really complain. Note: Like any thrift store, it can be a bit bothersome to go to Savers during the month of October, mainly because you'll run into a lot of douchebags who need a "last-minute costume" for Halloween parties, and clearly, a dude in a dress or a chick wearing 80's gear is totally funny and original... However, Savers does carry some new merchandise during the Halloween season, such as makeup, costumes, toys/party favors, and tights, so it may be worth checking out if you need those kinds of things. read more

Love this place -- the new location on VFW is much bigger than the old one (three feet away down Rte. 1), and the selection is still really great and varied. ONE REAL GRIPE: I have on multiple occasions walked out of the store because I have gotten so frustrated with the slow checkout. The most recent time, there was only one register open, and no fewer than four employees hanging out and chatting by another register while our line grew super long. Sure, they might have been on their break or doing some other non-cashier work, but in that case the store needs to manage schedules better because the wait to pay can be awful. UPDATE: I've left my score the same, but wanted again to reiterate how BAD the customer service is. I was there last night, and actually heard an employee yelling (!) to patrons in the dressing rooms (there were a couple empty shopping carts outside): "WHOSE carts are these?! Savers melts my brain. It's packed to the gills with so many random things. Chipped mugs. Vintage crappy art. TONS of records to look through. Figurines of drunks leaning on lamp posts. Fancy dressed to wear when you go to Chinese restaurants on the VFW after going to Savers to drink scorpion bowls in. It's really one of the few good meccas in Boston for crapping. And for you Savers fans, I just heard that the one in Revere is shut down. And also for anyone who cares, Montreal has two Savers. I went to both with my friend Jenny, and we found some AWESOME stuff. Today we went, and were didn't find anything we couldn't live without, but it was worth the stop after a fun trip to Dedham. yay, we're going to savers! (doing the happy dance), I was born and raised on thrift store stuff. This store is neat and organized. they have books, old school cassette tapes,corning ware dishes, good quality curtains for the living room. I even got a shower timer for my teenage kids.(only 99cents) well worth it, for the money I'm saving on my water bill. My teenage daughter would turn her nose up at the fact that I was buying/wearing USED clothes. Gross! she would say. Guess who's a believer now? My girl can put on her thrift store items and look like a million bucks when she walks out the house! she gets compliments all day ! that girl can dress to impress.You go girl! mommy raised you right! Yes, check out is slow, and lines can get long. I take that time to get a closer look at my items, making sure there's no holes or stains in the sweaters or shirts. It's not all that cheap considering it's used stuff. The Salvation Army (exit 5) is probably half the price. It gets 4 stars because it's VERY clean and SUPER organized. That makes it much easier to pick through and find things that actually are good bargains. My favorite new thrift store! This place is fantastic and is exceptionally laid out for efficiency and organization. Not once did I feel too overcrowded or overwhelmed while trying to dig for thrift treasures. My fave section is the books. You can pretty much pick up ANY well known novel, cookbook, how-to guide for no more than a few bucks. I went in while they had some sale going on and I got 5 books for $2. Love! You can also find some real gems in the clothing section. I've seen Burberry coats, J Crew, Ralph Lauren- tons of designers (thank you, Chestnut Hill peeps!). I snagged myself a barely used Christian Dior trench coat for $20. Day was made, people. They also have a pretty decent furniture selection and I've seen tons of like new pieces under $100- if my place wasn't so tiny I would have picked some up! read more

More a fan of them on 50% off day which usually happens on holidays and every Monday 25% off, but on those days I like the following: - The shoe selection is pretty awesome on those days, due to the fact that most shoes on regular days are between $4-20 or so. Some shoes are strangely priced too. And the good shoes seem to have some of the lowest prices, I've noticed. - The men's section has some cool sweaters, if you're into the Urban Outfitters style. Speaking of UO, I found a new flannel for $3.99 from there at Savers - compared to the $49 or so price they have at UO. - You will find a good amount of jeans at fairly nice prices, with names from Gap, J. Crew, and more. On all other days, the homeware, shirts, and etc are a great section to hit. The women's section for blouses, shirts, etc are quite overwhelming, so I usually stir clear from there. So many selections. Bags included. Make sure you get a cart, things usually multiple as you look through, even if you're just interested in one thing. I absolutely love this store & the new location is no exception. It is clean, extremely well organized & has a wide selection of whatever you are looking for. The women's section is HUGE & they even have a couple racks of maternity clothing. The children's section is quite expansive & many of the items are brand new. The prices cannot be beat...& they often have sales...& they now have a frequent shopper program which I guess can save you even more. The only problem I have encountered here is that if you go on a weekend afternoon, there is going to be quite the crowd waiting for the dressing room. There is a 6 item limit, but despite having one or 2 staff members watching over the dressing rooms, this limit is not at all enforced. read more

I've been able to find lovely blouses and sportswear here; you do need patience and energy as the endless shelves and racks can be dizzying if you're browsing on low blood sugar. So eat first. I've started donating my own items, particularly as it benefits epilepsy research; with each donation you get a coupon of $3 on your next purchase.. off a $15 blue Banana Republic career blouse, perhaps? There's a drop off area on the front left, where you ring a bell and someone will take your items and hand you a donation voucher. If you're making arts and crafts projects with kids, I'd highly recommend stopping here before going to an arts store. Hi. Savers rocks. It's huge, first of all. There's an awesome housewares section, and I think the prices are FAR better than most used/vintage stores in Boston. And the selection is interesting. On my last visit, I got a sweater skirt, a homemade pleated skirt with an awesome Swedish pattern, and a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans (HOLLA!) for less than $15. If you merged a TJ Maxx with a Goodwill, you'd have Savers. It is the Mecca of used and discounted clothes, nick-knacks, books, DVDs, CDs, and some furniture. For what it is, it is a very clean store. The staff is very friendly and the place is well-lit and decently organized. The quality of the clothes, however, have something to be desired. I've found clothes in Goodwill that had less stains and pulled threads than that which I've found at Savers. However, I guess if you look hard enough, you can find some gems. read more

Samplings. -Various junior-high inspired dresses could be had for $9 each. -A vintage Coach evening bag for $11 (though it was very, very well-loved) -Screen-printed t-shirts for $0.99 -One awesomely Disco purple lamé jumpsuit for $12 -Many, many vintage glasses. I've been shopping at Savers in W. Rox for almost ten years now... So you could say I'm a fan. I make a monthly pilgrimage here with best friend for a fun pick me up and sometimes I leave with something really great. There is something about walking through racks and racks of used clothes...and this place is huge! easily one of the biggest thrift stores around. It is so much fun to search through all the knick knacks and housewares, you seriously will never know what you'll find. There is always some insane original artwork or sad clown statue or crazy elton john style sunglasses or toy from the 80s that just makes me crack up. They have a great shoe selection...most thrift stores usually just have a little rack of shoes...not savers! They have 4 rows of shelving that run almost the entire length of the store (at least a half city block) with everything from 1980's style jelly shoes to old school kangaroos to moccasins to you name it! and always a gold pair of stiletto pumps i wish i could cram my Sasquatch feet into. I always leave with at least one pair of sneakers, sometimes brand new! items of interest: an old wurlitzer organ from the 60s! too much though: almost $200 and it was falling apart, but fun to play while I was there. Lunch bag stickers from the 1980's with cartoon mouths saying things like "chomp" and "munch". A plastic wall clock with 5's for every number and a cartoon drunk dude in the middle saying "it's 5 o'clock somewhere, time to start drinking!" A chinese restaurant moving, light up picture of a river with nature sounds! best score ever. The clothes at savers are great! They have the best vintage dresses i've ever seen, best part is...the staff don't know that a vintage cocktail dress from the 1970's isnt worth more than some new stupid turd dress from target so you can get the vintage stuff for less! (let's hope it stays that way). Ladies, the sweaters are awesome...puffy cats? tacky rhinestones? also I got a vintage tuxedo shirt! my best score ever. My only complaint is that the prices have gone up a lot in the last couple years...i guess cause of the economy or something? Have you guys heard about this? news to me. Some stuff is now double what it was just a few years ago, but still most prices are a bargain. I have so many great memories from this place. This one seems to be the second most pricey Savers I've been to (#1 being East Providence), but I have found some good deals here. They seem to run the 50% off specific-color tag sales much more often as well. Nothing will beat the New Bedford location, in my eyes, but this is easily one of the better Savers I've been to. The deals here are excellent. If you like paying hardly anything for clothes, this is your place. They also have tons of books, kitchen stuff, and other random assortments. The staff is horrific. I have seen managers yell at customers. While some of the cashiers are friendly, some are awful. The last time I was there the girl at the register wouldn't even speak to me. They also let the staff hang out on the furniture that they are selling. How they expect to sell stuff that you can't look at is beyond me. I will let some of the staff's suckiness slide, because most of it may just be bitterness. They have the worst customers! Only go there when you aren't in an already stressed out or pissy mood. The trash that shop there are the worst. At any given time, 25% of the customers are stupid, rude, and totally worthless human beings. This place really should have one more store from me, but the store needs to focus on their customer service. Like if they wanted to get bitchy at the people who let their kids run wild, who need to rethink every purchase at the register, and who without fail will always be in your way. It's like you go to an entirely different rack to get away from the person up your butt and without fail they follow you to the next one. Savers is one great thrift store. This area lacks thrift stores and discount stores completely. This large plaza on the VFW Parkway used to be a Stop&Shop and has now become my favorite "discount" plaza in the area. This Savers sits along the VFW Parkway, just past the Route 109 mega intersection (always so much traffic!). It isn't visible from the road, and doesn't have a large sign. All you should know is to turn right, right at the Luxe Pet Resort to access the store. From the VFW Parkway Southbound, take a u-turn at Millennium Road traffic light. Anyway, this Savers is huge and is very bright. The Norwood location is a bit smaller, and it doesn't have the nice bright lighting this location has, and seems much more dark. The staff are consistently friendly, kind, and knowledgeable about the policies, prices, and inventory of the store. The West Roxbury store has a good selection of everything ranging from thousands of books, DVD's, men's clothing, board games, home decor, furniture, electronics, and tons of women's clothing as well. It normally has great prices on everything and has a 7-day return policy. Service is fast and store is always very organized and clean (normally, these stores are a MESS!). Definitely the best of the few thrift stores that exist in the area. I will definitely be returning in the future. read more

Savers entered our community with a clean store , a good selection and bargains on many things including electronics and home appliances. A few months ago, pricing went crazy. A used TV i bought for $29 is now $89. Today I saw a old used paper cutter for $99. Clothing prices are way up too. A used polo shirt from a decent brand is now $18.99. In some cases you can buy an item new at TJ Maxx for less. Now we see 50% and 40% sales frequently. Management must wait to get established in an area and the BAM, prices are hiked significantly. many customer complaining at register. This is my favorite store of all time! They sell used clothing, housewares, toys etc. I recently lost 75 pounds and over a year and a half. This required a lot of new clothing purchases and I did not have the money to buy a new wardrobe everytime I switched a size. Savers to the rescue. I can go in here and buy 10 pieces of clothing for under 60 bucks. It has gotten a little pricier recently but this location particularly has some decent brands. Ive found j. crew, banana republic, NY & co and express. I love this place. Its dirty and crowded. you'll probably feel itchy when you leave and you'll definitely want to wash everything before you wear it but even all of that can not keep me away. I used to come here and be able to easily fill a shopping cart to the brim with great vintage clothing and housewares. Now, it's harder to find that kind of stuff in general, and more hipsters know about this place so it's often more picked through. However, I have never gone there and not bought anything, I can always find something I want or need. They have some good furniture and housewares and their prices have gone up, but are still comparable to a Salvation Army. It's getting a little more run down, but they do have 5 dressing rooms, and good sales! read more

Thrift stores can really be hit or miss, depending on what they have that day. This place is huge and I've found a lot of great kitchen knick knacks and art supplies. The furniture section ebbs and flows, and clothing is bountiful. Good place to find vintage sweaters, but you really have to look. LP's are a dollar or so more here than goodwill for some reason. The prices have really gone up and even though I haven't been here in a while, not much has caught my eye the last few times. Nothing can compare to the time when I was about 14 and found a black sequined tank top that I was in love with, however the size was not in love with me and I got stuck in it while trying to get it off. Buyer beware with Halloween purchases I bought a necklace for my daughter as part of her Halloween outfit on the 12th at the Roxbury store. The clasp broke as soon as I tried it on her. I went back to this store today as was the earliest I could get to it. Staff said that they could not exchange it as their policy was NO exchanges after the 14th. However this is about an item which was a reject not about wanting to exchange because we didn't like it!! This is poor customer service Shame on you Savers . You deserve to be haunted read more

This particular Savers (West Roxbury, MA) totally went south within the last year! It used to be one of the best for a very long time where you could find occasionally the rare "white elephant" for a decent price. Now, as it appears they've had quite a turnover in management, particularly this store's prices skyrocketed, hardly any really good finds (I have a very strong vibe, that things get pulled out in the back and "disappear"), plus the friendliness of the staff is gone. This store's dynamic is incredibly tense! Visits to this location made me realize, that I'd much rather donate my very good things to independent thrift stores instead of supporting this for-profit Corporation who hides behind their so-called "goodwill". read more
