We took the bus from the airport, and so arrived walking past the rainbow wall around the corner. It's a little confusing since there is an exit on the shopping street, but the entrance is across from Kulture Hus. The space is modern and bright, with orbs that light up different neon colors in time with the music, and electronic fireplaces. The staff at the desk is friendly and efficient, but they can get quite busy, especially when the lobby is full and people are ordering drinks. We got an interior room on the 2nd floor - down the stairs to the right of the desk. There was a lift, but it was only one flight of stairs so we managed. The room was no-nonsense. Two beds pushed together with plain white duvets, side reading lamps, backlit headboard. It also had two fold-down bunks with ladder, so you could've held a family (though not with American-sized luggage). The bath was small but clean and bright with hooks in the right places and towel heaters. There was a long shower glass that could fold out a little further to give you space, but I still managed to soak the bathroom. The TV had enough channels, even in English, but Jimmy managed to get it out of sync, so we ended up using the screen mirroring function and free wifi to watch Netflix instead. We'd asked in advance about spa treatments and were told to just go to the spa to book. When we arrived and did so, it was, of course, booked. The Skybar is the place to be on Friday nights. There is a velvet rope situation in the lobby to get in. On Thursday night, it was no problem to get a drink at the bar and watch the snow blow into drifts on the balcony. Breakfast is a nice spread - fresh bread, jams and jellies, eggs, fruit, tea, coffee, all with the same great view. The location can't be beat - just a short walk to the main bus stop, on the aisle of shopping, close to the top restaurants in town, and just across from the water and the Kulture Hus.

Also, the room is very small. So why did I give him 5 stars! I'm glad you asked. Breakfast is majestic, yes Majestic. The room is very quiet, you sleeping piece. The mattress is more comfortable than my own mattress. Most importantly, the customer service is excellent, and everybody is always smiling

This isn't a review of the hotel per say, but on their lunch service. I guess one out of two isn't that bad when I summarize it all. So yes, the colleagues were all there, but quality of food was nowhere to be found. Had a total of three lunches and not one of them impressed me even the slightest. The salads were quite dull, with some really weird combinations. I'd daresay that green olives with artichokes should never be put in the same salad bowl, those flavors have no chance of going together. Then just the standardized boring lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber etc. One lunch they served cod in egg sauce. I don't mind egg sauce, if done right it can be really tasty, but here the eggs were dry and overcooked along with a complete lack of spices (primarily salt). The cod itself was swimming around in the egg sauce, but surprisingly almost undercooked than over. Also, complete lack of seasoning and salt, resulting in literarily no taste of fish. Another day the lunch was advertised as roasted pork loin with roasted baby potatoes and jus, sounded nice, but for some reason we were served a beef stroganoff that had about the same texture as chewing on a piece of rubber band. And no roasted potatoes either, just dry rice. Sadly, none of the dishes served were even up to an acceptable standard even though the hotel dining room is very modern, contemporary and nice - suggesting an entirely different level of quality than the one presented. Frankly, if this is what paying hotel customers, or in this case course/congress participants are served on a daily basis - change location, it really is just that bad.

After my last visit I left with an underwhelming feeling. Neither the food or the service that time…read morewas up to par with the price. This night we were here with my sister-in-law celebrating her belated 40th birthday and I was truly hoping for a night of redemption on their part, even though we presented a bit of a challenge with an 8-top table. They started out strong, taking drink orders and delivering them in a rapid pace. I had a sloe gin mojito (Haymans sloe gin, lime, mint, sugar, soda) that was well executed though slightly too easy/safe on the mint. The waiter then took our food order but didn't write it down and for some obscure reason didn't ask what we wanted to drink. I found it strange although since he collected our menus but left the wine- and drink-list we all assumed he'd return shortly asking about drinks/wine. This was however the moment when I got that gut-feeling of "this isn't going to end well". And I hate it when I'm right, at least on occasions such as these. The waiter did return quite swiftly after taking our order, but only to quickly ask what one of us had ordered for starter as he didn't remember it. Before I had a chance to say we still hadn't ordered our drinks for our food he was gone, and I tried getting his attention over the next ten minutes without any success (major flashback to the last time I was here). And true enough, the starters came for everyone and I immediately said "We didn't even get to order our drinks/wine for the food!". The waitress holding three plates almost panicked, stopped in mid-step and didn't know what to do or where to turn. Our waiter noticed something was immediately wrong and we pointed out the blatant error. He tried to redeem it as fast as possible, and arranged for drinks for everyone. To me he suggested a pinot noir (Le Village Savigny-les-Beaune 2012, actually only on the bottle but he arranged for a glass) that was well and truly delicious to my starter of thick flank ox tartar, soured cream, tarragon purée, horseradish, and pickled red onion. While my starter was excellent, several other gave mixed reviews. Plate of charcuteries was bland, the smoked Baltic herring tasted nothing of smoke along with the grilled potato-bread underneath was burnt (and we're talking truly black burnt!). Going to the main courses this time around the waiter arranged for the drinks/wine before the dishes were presented. I was hoping on sampling a wine from Patagonia but it was unfortunately sold out. Instead he arranged for a glass of 2011 Médoc (Chãteau Patache d'Aux) that was a delicate experience to my main of reindeer filet, roasted garlic puree, ox-tail jus, smoked marrow, and fall vegetables. Truly spectacular dish! But yet again, a few in our company gave mixed reviews. A beef tenderloin that came with a stringy sinew(!), and my wife's rib-eye had both sinews, tangy fat on the outskirts as well as the temperature way off. Ordered medium, came more towards medium well borderlining on well done at places. Also, they came in with fries despite no one had ordered them, and they brought in too little of the potato gratin in relation to the people that had ordered it. For my dessert I had pickled lingonberry with yoghurt, roasted flaxseed, caramel curd and ice-cream. In the glass a small amount of 23 YO Ron Zacapa rum. All in all tasty, but the dessert was perhaps a bit one-dimensional and too sour without anything sweet enough to counter the tartness. All in all, two dinners in, I'm left with a bit of a conundrum. My ratings always reflect how well the particular establishment fulfill my expectations. I have higher standards for a place like this than the burger joint on the corner, while both of them still have the same chance of recieving a high grade if they exceed my expectations or literary blow my mind. The problem with Tages is that they don't measure up to what is expected of them. They lack finesse and detail in service, not attentive to what the customer wants and needs, but first and foremost they make too many mistakes with their food! Maybe it's a problem of too many tables and too many dishes on the menu? I don't know, but I'm unable to overlook the many cracks in the stylish facade. They didn't bring their A-game, and I'm truly doubting I will return as a customer as I've previously had much better food/experience/service for the same price tag. In my view, the price isn't worth the experience, and that's not a recipe for a restaurant's longevity.
