We are out of town owners so we wanted someone who could not only be relied upon, but who could manage all of the subs in an efficient way. They weren't the least expensive, but the difference was not so much and we went with them because of my brother's experience. The project involved granite countertop installation, tile backsplash installation, removal and replacement of some china cabinets, various electrical work, new sink and disposal installation, and similar work in the Master bath. Wow were we impressed! First off, the communication with us was outstanding. We knew about every visit and every issue in advance, receiving pictures along the way. Our neighbors in the condo complex couldn't have been more appreciative of the way they handled moving materials in and out. We actually had guests stay at our place during the high point of the construction (McNulty was not aware of it because it was a weekend), and the place was immaculate. Also per my brother, at the end of every day they do a complete clean. Quality of the workmanship was exceptional. We had a tricky counter request where we wanted the seam around the corner - not at the corner - where our stovetop was. They used a little extra bracing and were able to get a very big piece of granite into the unit. What a great experience for us. Everything about it was first class.

They were flexible with our decisions, and they allow you to truly design a customized home. We even got to pick a lot that wasn't in one of their developments. There are so many "upscale" features that come standard with many of their models that we hardly had to upgrade anything (which saves a lot of money compared to national builders). They were also right on schedule. We recommend them to any of our friends looking for houses.

DO NOT BUY A HOUSE RENOVATED BY THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…read more My wife and I purchased a home that was remodeled and sold by Top Quality Homes, LLC. Items were repaired poorly resulting in over $3K spent to fix. We closed on the house on 08/27/2014 and moved in on 08/30/2014. Items were required by the city of Brooklyn Center, MN to be completed which the company never did resulting in the cost and labor being dropped on us when we closed on the home, none of which were disclosed by the seller prior to closing, which the seller did not even attend. (sent a representative) The first weekend in the house, the following repairs were required by HVAC and plumbing professionals as well as repairs made by myself. Repair of gas leak at gas range connection which was installed improperly by the seller. ($60.00 parts) No vent installed for dryer hookup and was not covered by home warranty. A licensed HVAC specialist installed this at a cost of $1,175.00. The furnace had a faulty condensing coil and corroded panels which all had to be replaced at a cost of roughly $1,700.00. Luckily this was covered under our 1 year home warranty but we had to pay $95.00 for the service technician to come out and evaluate the repairs needed. The seller was also required by the City of Brooklyn Center to remove two 30 ft dead evergreen trees which they neglected to do which resulted in 5 hours of labor to remove them myself as well as the $10.00 for the bow saw. We also had a plumbing leak that had to be replaced which cost $360.00 by a licensed plumber as well as a faulty newly installed bath tub faucet that had to be entirely replaced at a cost of $76.00. Also many of the contractually agreed upon repairs were not completed until two days after closing which is unacceptable. They had over one month to make the needed repairs which they signed an agreement to but failed to meet the deadline and the work was all done very sloppily. The gas leak could have cost the lives of my wife and I, as well as our pet and two unborn twins due to carbon monoxide poisoning. All in all the total amount of out of pocket repairs (not including those covered by warranty) are in excess of $1,500.00. In addition, Top Quality Homes is in violation of Brooklyn Center City codes. They did not mow the lawn resulting in the city completing and charging them, trees were not removed, building material waste were dumped in the backyard and not removed, and an HVAC inspection was not completed prior to closing on the house resulting in the $1,700.00 in repairs. We are seeking a reimbursement of these costs, which are a direct result of the negligence and poor quality of work, and lack of concern for us their customers (us). Top Quality Homes, LLC should be held responsible and liable for their blatant disregard for consumer safety.

In both cases Chad Donnay was extremely helpful and got the problems resolved in a very timely manner. Neither I nor my wife are very good at making many decisions all at once (which there are when building a new home) but the process was quite painless with the help of everyone at Donnay Homes. Overall we're very pleased with our home both inside and out, it's been a great first home and we would likely have them build us another if we move.

Poor communication…read more Mark came out and quoted a project for $17k on a remodel of our only small bathroom that was broke (and needed a remodel anyway). I had remodeled the bathroom at our previous house, so I have a good handle on what is involved, but we were too busy to take it on ourselves. I solicited 5 or 6 bids and Mark's seemed the most professional but also the highest cost. I highlighted that this was our ONLY bathroom and speed was the utmost priority and that ideally I would like the project done in like weeks not months. Mark didn't express much concern over timeline. Now there were some materials shortages, and COVID and whatever, but it was just excuse after excuse, with sometimes no one showing up for a month at a time. And the strong impression was this project just wasn't organized or a priority. They didn't start for over 5 weeks, and when called on it, I was told that the timeline we discussed was for starting the project, not finishing it. I wish I had recorded our initial conversation, because it seemed he took crummy notes and then later reinterpreted them to suit his needs. Nearly 2 months into the project he expressed surprise this was our only bathroom and sort of sheepishly asked what we had been doing in the meantime (going to neighbors houses we are friends with). How that CORE piece of information I had stressed repeatedly during our first few meetings had slipped his mind, I have no idea. He the said he would hurry to finish. Then no one showed up for 3 straight weeks. We nearly fired him about three different times, including in mid JAN promising to have the shower done by Valentine's day (we hired him first week of OCT). Needless to say that deadline was totally missed by a month or more. Moreover key elements discussed during the planning stage were simply forgotten by him (tile wainscoting), and then when asked about them several months in he had to scramble. Early on in late OCT he had stressed the need for us to drop everything and go pick out tile so he could order it and have it there by mid NOV. Then MONTHS later when he was actually ready to install the tile (JAN), the project again had to go on hold because he had not ordered it yet... This is despite repeatedly asking him if he needed us to order tile, or front cash for materials to speed things along (not sure if he was having cashflow issues or what). Anyway, once the project was 95% done, they just had to install a glass divider (another element he had forgotten about). So that was another several weeks, then when they came to install it, they had cut it for the wrong side of the room, the side away from the shower...so more weeks to completion. By this point I couldn't even talk to him because I was so angry, but firing him when we were 98% seemed pointless. Anyway, I left it in my wife's hands, who he then took advantage of. Telling her he was giving us a "$1000 discount" for all the hassle, while charging her $300 more than the estimate and payment plan we had agreed on. This is despite us generally picking cheaper materials than were in his estimate and giving him wide latitude on specific choice just to try and speed things along. Hiring Mark was one of the 3-5 biggest mistakes I have made in my entire life. Worse than some car accidents I got into in my teens or that time I bought a super expensive bike right before we had a kid and I mostly stopped biking. The stress related to this has probably literally taken 6 months off of my life expectancy. I am serious.
