After 4 and a half months, I can proudly say that I graduated from the Esthetics program. My teachers were wonderful & the front desk ( reception ) is wonderful . They definitely juggle a lot when the salon is busy! The school gave me the experience of taking clients for the first time. This was new to me & very nerve wracking , but I like how they transition you after a few weeks from working on family members to actual clients. You have to get your feet wet eventually & the regular customers are usually very understanding. Both of my teachers made me feel comfortable & I respect both of them very much. I felt ready for the big test to get licensed ! That's the end goal! I also made life long friends because of this school & have such a passion for skincare - the opportunities are endless! I am very thankful for this school because it has opened up so much for me! It has been life changing. :)

I almost had the job and I lost my keys the morning I was supposed to come in and do a class Demo and I didn't get hired and I've been pretty crushed ever since I would love to work from the rock Academy. It's a dream of mine. I ran to Santa Barbara Beauty School for many years. I go on my own business and you'd be lucky to have me to shoot my own horn and I would be lucky to work for you. I don't think Alma will return my call, but I'll try again thank you Ken.

My dear Yelp Review Readers...as we all know or at least thought, the days of the $10 dollar…read morehaircut are gone! But that is actually not true...not here at the San Luis Obispo beauty College! For those living in or near SLO, this establishment is conveniently located on South Street between Higuera and Broad Streets (much closer to Higuera). There is also plenty of free parking, so no worries. The facility is clean, bright and has all the trappings of a Beauty Salon. Lots of "Stations" on the general floor which one can clearly see from the front windows. I don't know if walk-ins are taken because I called ahead and set an appointment time. Student Cosmetologist, as well as, Student Barbers are available to complete the patron's desired services offered, which are listed on the clearly visible Pricing Board. I prepaid at the Reception Desk and waited less than 5 minutes to be taken back by a Student Barber (Alex) to a Station for my haircut service. He was polite and interested in what I had in mind for the cut. The "most fabulous Instructor", Ivan Q. appeared by the time I had finished explaining to Alex the hair cut I had in mind...and he queried Alex regarding my request. Alex explained and Ivan Q. then confirmed that with me. Super professional! The most fabulous Instructor "Ivan" Q. discussed the methodology to be used to achieve the desired results and Alex (Barber Student) went to work. Unfortunately, my hair isn't a lush forest...ya, I'm not the head of hair I used to be many years ago...nevertheless, Alex seemed to be determined "to lead me to the promised land" and give me my desired result. The hair cut took really no more time than expected and that included the occasional check-ins by the fabulous Instructor "Ivan" Q. to make sure the execution was going to be spot on. Thank-you Ivan Q. and Kudos Alex...I know you will be successful in your new vocation, and I will most certainly be back for a cut actually "worth the price" at the SLO Beauty College. On this occasion...in this Yelper's opinion, the SLO Beauty College charged the "right price" and gave me the "right hair cut", along with very professional service...truly earning this "highly recommend" 5 Star review!

Sure enough I called one week prior and was told they were completely booked. So conflicting with the information provided.

I would certainly rate the salon 1 star if I could. I'm autistic. I went in to their salon services get a short, basic haircut. The entire time I was bullied by my barber during the haircut. There were many things he did to me and said to intentionally try to make a joke out of me. Other students eventually started gathering around and ridiculing me and snickering. There was absolutely no supervision. I know I'm an easy target because I'm autistic, but that does not excuse this whatsoever. It is not okay to make fun of disabled people and it's not okay that this behavior wasn't prevented by the teachers. The haircut itself was awful and took a while to grow out long enough to touch up. Very choppily cut and poorly done. But I don't mind because it's a school and they need experience. My mom was coming over from the front to give him a tip, not knowing what had happened, but even she saw that people were just surrounding me and laughing at me, so she turned right back around. My mom had called the place after. The instructor was kind and offered a free, supervised touch up. This is good to note. I didn't accept it because I already go through enough of these experiences in my life because some people like to use an autistic person (or just weaker targets in general such as the elderly, the homeless, etc.) as an excuse to be cruel, I don't need to risk going back to a place that treated me like that. But she listened and seemed to care, so that's what matters. I had a meltdown as soon as we got back in the car to go home and it lasted for hours. I shouldn't have to be judged and bullied for being quiet and having difficulty socializing. Those were things outside of my control because I'm disabled. They appeared to be around my same age of 18, so immaturity is certainly inevitable in a classroom, but this was just cruel in my opinion. You have to sit down for several minutes just defenselessly being subjected to ridicule for things outside of your control. There absolutely should've been supervision. I'm not going to place blame on the instructors and supervisors because they weren't the ones who bullied me, but this sort of thing shouldn't even be able to happen. Things may have changed in the year since I've been and I sure hope they have. Supervision may have tightened. Obviously, a single instance does not define the entirety of the salon. If you're autistic or disabled in any other way, you're already taking risks wherever you go. It's your choice to make and things could be good now. I just wanted to document my experience so it doesn't get brushed under the rug. If you read my review and experience, thank you. I wasn't able to advocate for myself in the moment because I was overwhelmed. It was hard to speak. But at least I have the ability to retroactively articulate. Not all autistic people do. And those are the stories that you don't hear about because not all of us can speak for ourselves, so that is why I'm sharing this experience because I am able to in place where others may have not been able to.
