I hadn't attended school in over 10 years, but I knew that I wanted a fresh start & to do something…read moreI always dreamed of doing. It finally seemed like the perfect time. After 4 and a half months, I can proudly say that I graduated from the Esthetics program. My teachers were wonderful & the front desk ( reception ) is wonderful . They definitely juggle a lot when the salon is busy! The school gave me the experience of taking clients for the first time. This was new to me & very nerve wracking , but I like how they transition you after a few weeks from working on family members to actual clients. You have to get your feet wet eventually & the regular customers are usually very understanding. Both of my teachers made me feel comfortable & I respect both of them very much. I felt ready for the big test to get licensed ! That's the end goal! I also made life long friends because of this school & have such a passion for skincare - the opportunities are endless! I am very thankful for this school because it has opened up so much for me! It has been life changing. :)

I almost had the job and I lost my keys the morning I was supposed to come in and do a class Demo and I didn't get hired and I've been pretty crushed ever since I would love to work from the rock Academy. It's a dream of mine. I ran to Santa Barbara Beauty School for many years. I go on my own business and you'd be lucky to have me to shoot my own horn and I would be lucky to work for you. I don't think Alma will return my call, but I'll try again thank you Ken.

I graduated from VC more years ago than I will admit. Now I am taking a night class and am very…read moreimpressed with the new library and other campus additions.. Some of the classrooms are in the same funky 1970s buildings, but the art/design classroom has updated computers and huge monitors. The library building has cool architecture and a vast seating area with computers. The online registration process is challenging (you need a Master's degree to figure it out), but after an hour and a call to the helpline which confirmed that the error glitch would require me to re-input all my data again, I was able to register. The open hours for the store and registration are tricky too, so check online before venturing over. The teachers are as cool as I remembered them, so it has been rather fun revisiting some of my college memories. I even find parking spots on Loma Vista like I used to, and they will still ticket you in the permit parking lots too.

While VC offers affordable and convenient classes, it falls short in every other department. Every…read morecounselor my family has met has given false information and limited choices where there were alternatives available. In addition, the teachers are highly unmoving and do not even allow a late assignment when an immediate family member has been in the hospital or even passed away. Most recently, a teacher stated that it would not be equitable to treat students differently in such circumstances. Equality and equity are not the same thing; equity is giving people what they need, versus equality which is giving everyone the same thing. The fact that she did not understand that concept was especially frustrating and alarming considering it was a COMMUNICATIONS CLASS. I strongly urge any and all attendees to research the teacher's name and history on MULTIPLE sources, not just the college's. This institution depends on the ignorance of students in order to pass themselves off as "experts." I use the term "teacher" rather than "professor" since they are clearly not at that caliber. In this particular case, the teacher is Stacy Sloan Graham. We are required to take multiple courses in equity to obtain our degrees. However, this college does not seem to require their educators to practice it.

If you have only been to the old academy in Goleta, you will suspect you have died and gone to…read morebeauty salon heaven the minute you open the large glass door to the gorgeous, large building on Anacapa. I couldn't believe my eyes. This is state-of-the-art facility with high ceilings and industrial exposed tubing on the ceiling. It's modern and shiny with 20 or so stations for hair in the center of the room and a long row of nail stations along the right side. Stairs take you up to the classrooms and treatment room for facials. The old facility was built around the time of the PHF (the SB County loony bin). It was institutional, evoking Suzanne Vega's "Institution Green." The work was always excellent, though. Good product and well-trained students nearly ready to graduate. The prices are unbelievable. I had a "premium" facial with Lauren. It took 65 or so minutes and the sheets on the reclining bed were incredibly soft. The steam felt fantastic. There are no curtains separating the beds and everyone speaks in a whisper, so it's quite peaceful. I have clear skin but it's been about 18 months since my last facial. I have no pimples or skin problems but facials are important for evening out skin tone. For people who need extensive extractions, facials will result in clearer skin. Those who don't hydrate properly with product will also benefit. But I am pretty hydrated (Tatcha cleanser, exfoliator, moisturizer, Erasa Skincare anti-aging serum, and Faces by Liliana toner and eye cream) .So for me, it was ultra hydration plus a radical improvement in skin tone. I am going to go this week, if possible, for a blowout or updo. The hair services are staggeringly inexpensive. A French braid for $11 (long hair) and updo for $26. I wish Gov Hair Product (or French Laundry) had opened this sooner. I will be back regularly until I move back to New York. What a joy! 10 stars! (And Lauren is fantastic!)
