The room had a key card holder for the room key. Properly inserted, you can then use the electrical outlets and light switches. It was a bit of a learning curve knowing this, finding it, and then seating the key by pushing down hard so that it would work. Note to self, you can't leave your electronics plugged in to charge while you are away because you have to take your key card with you to get back inside. The bed was comfortable. There was an extra pillow in the closet. No view. The desk was oddly situated behind the bed, and the bed was in the center of the room. There were two lounge chairs and a small table. We didn't use the TV or the fridge, but both were provided. Upon heading downstairs for breakfast, we noticed the room door didn't lock when we left. It's a habit to always check the handle when leaving. Apparently it does lock, but not right away. You have to wait a full minute by your door to make sure it locks. I wouldn't recommend leaving anything valuable in the room, even when headed to breakfast downstairs. There is even a sign in the elevator that states this too. The bathroom had a tall bathtub that was slightly nerve-wracking to get in and out of. I thought I was going to slip and fall. There wasn't a shower curtain, instead there was a small glass partition that was supposed to keep the water in the tub. It failed miserably. Even directing the shower nozzle towards the inner wall, water splashed all over the floor. Being eco-conscious, the hotel skimped on providing extra towels, and there was no bath mat to step on. This exasperated my worries of slipping and falling again. We were on the 6th floor which was the top floor, so we slept well. Our room was far from the elevator. There was silence the entire time we were there. The curtains didn't block out all of the light. Some light peaked through the top. During the summer of the midnight sun, this can be a bit annoying, but thankfully Oslo gets quite a bit of cloudy days and rain, so the light that entered the room was muted. Breakfast was fine. There was an assortment of hot and cold items, meat and vegetarian options. Everyone will find something to fuel them through the day. Checkout was a bit of an ordeal. The woman had trouble doing this because we had prepaid, but we added some drinks from the concession stand. She did eventually work it out, but she was flustered and needed time to do it. Taxis and Uber were easy to take from the front entrance. There were also tram track out front, so getting one from a nearby stop was easy enough. If you book from a third party like Booking.com, don't bother signing up for the Scandic hotel club. They won't accept your stay as accumulated points. I wouldn't stay here again because the price was quite high considering the mediocre quality.

The worst thing is no parking whatsoever, so if you're bringing a car (semi required in NOR, but not Oslo, be prepared to pay through the nose) . Every parking in the city is paid, and the going rate is $30 US per day. Free wifi and $1 for coffee. No TV in the room. But overall it was a pretty decent stay.

Staff seemed cold, they help you, but didn't look happy. The room is spacious with a simple kitchen. The building still maintains its original floor and stairways, nice! They also have a luggage storage room for you to leave your luggages which is convenient. For the price I paid, I feel it's not a good value.

The Scandic Homenkollen Park was a decent host with both hits and misses. HITS: The entrance and main lobby to the hotel was beautiful and welcoming. The food served at breakfasts, the included lunches, cocktail party and the farewell dinner were all very very good. The meeting room set up was comfortable and run well. Lots of us commented that the one big culinary surprise was how good the reindeer main dish was at our dinner. I loved the bed in my room with the double separate duvets (I must be in Europe!) - the rest of the room, not so much - see below. Wifi worked well. MISSES: Many of us ended up in very small, dark rooms. Very basic. If there was a room safe, I couldn't find it easily. After I checked in, I had a really hard time finding my room. I asked several housecleaning staff for help, and I was sent down long corridors to no avail. We had lunch one day at the dining area near the main lobby. Service was pretty atrocious and unfriendly. Owned by the Anker ST foundation, this new site, which is really a hostel, opened in 2013 as part…read moreof the foundation's mission to provide affordable student housing. Some properties, such as a hotel and this hostel, help to support long-term student housing sites such as the student apartments adjoining Anker Apartment. First, there are several accommodations in the area that have "Anker" in the name, and I made the mistake of finding the Anker Hostel (which is closer to the city center) on the long walk up the Anker Apartment. While it is a good hike from the Central Bus or Train stations (I'd say at least half an hour), there are nearby bus and train options. For one night near the end of September 2013, I paid 250,00 Danish krone for a bunk bed in a standard dorm room for 30 women (I actually ended up in a mixed-sex room for 20 people, but I was asked my preference at check-in, and I honestly didn't mind. There was only one other woman in the room that night, and so my hunch is that perhaps it made sense to have more than woman in the room, but again, it's only a guess, and I truly didn't have preference). There were additional charges for towels (20,00) and linen (50,00), and an MVA fee (14,00). Breakfast was not included, but it was available at a connected convenience store for an additional 60,00. I can't give you my impression of that because I needed to leave early to catch my flight. So, what I paid was 334 krone, which at this time translates to about €45 or $61. The hostel is very clean and seems well-run. Everything about it feels big and anonymous, though. On the ground-level floor there is a check-in desk that is also a coffee/wine bar, lockers, tables and chairs for working or visiting, table tennis, and two long couches that face opposite walls with large, flat-screen televisions. Many people congregated to take advantage of free wifi, watch t.v., eat, study, or relax. There are arrangements if you want to use there kitchen. I did see one happy family using the table tennis. Because everything was so spread out, though (not the typical "problem" in a hostel, I know!), people didn't really interact much. I stayed in Block C on the second floor. Perhaps because the site is still very new, everything was very crisp, clean, and in terrific working order. Key cards provide access through a secure door to the second floor and to individual dorm rooms. There truly was a good amount of space between bunk beds, and people were very respectful to quietly use computers/other, read, rest, etc. in the dorm room. Toilets and showers on the floor (shared by several other "Bock" dorm rooms) provided single-sex accommodations, and also one male/female room, which was closest to Block C, and so is the one that I used and photographed as you'll see here on Yelp. There were several individual shower stalls and toilet stalls with individual doors, and just two sinks with mirrors. Again, everything was quite clean and well-maintained, but it felt very institutional. Not really to my taste, but I can't fault the execution of the place for what it is designed to offer. Staff was also friendly and efficient. Because I only decided to take this trip the day before I flew to Oslo, I really had no bearings as far as the transportation, etc. I asked for help at the reception desk to make sure that I would make it to my return flight in time through using public transportation options. I don't know whether they had a special computer program as an accommodation site, or whether this software is available to the general public, but the nice woman who helped me was able to use my flight information to tell me which bus I should take to get to the airport in proper time. I guess because I was so astonished, she showed me the computer screen, and my flight was listed along with the suggested bus - amazing!, and then she could back-track to tell me what time I should catch a nearby train in order to get to the Central Bus station in good order for my connection. Other cities really need to study this model. It was incredibly helpful. In terms of the location of the hostel relative to the city, it is, as I mentioned, not centrally-located, but it is very easy to catch a train or bus. Public transportation (I opted for a 24-hour public transportation pass that included buses, trains, and even a water transport out to the museum island, but did not include the airport bus, which cost me 110,00 krone) provide frequent, reasonably-priced options. The specific site of the hostel honestly wasn't pretty, but it did seem safe, and main roads leading down to the center offered many enticing shops and restaurants. If you are looking for a long stay with a cozy atmosphere and lots of interaction with fellow travelers, this might not be the best option for you, but the cost was very competitive, it was very clean and quiet, and I enjoyed a comfortable night there with great service from staff.

We found it to be very affordable: For $117/night, we shared a 2-bed room with our own bathroom and a full complementary breakfast offered in the cafeteria on the first floor. This may sound a lot more expensive than you're used to, but Oslo is not a cheap town. With the private accommodation and breakfast- we found this to be a fantastic option. The hotel is located in the heart of the downtown so it is easy to get to from the central station and other main lines. There are a lot of restaurants and shops close by on Karl Johans gate (the main street- mostly expensive or touristy shit, but lots of stuff to see and do) and the place is a short walk to the waterfront. All in all- we had a great stay and really enjoyed the cleanliness, professionalism, and quality of our accommodations. We definitely recommend a stay if you're looking for an easy place to crash in one of the most expensive (and beautiful!) cities in the world.

They don't sell you a hotel room, rather they sell you a construction site in hope you won't notice. Now, to the rooms. I have only ever seen one smaller and the sink next to the bed is just plain weird. The shower had one product labeled shower/hair gel and was almost empty even after room service. Stay far away from this place. Guys - don't tell me I didn't warn you.
