The three of us chanced on this place, walking up the street after quite a stressful day.
We found The Scarecrow, a place filled with dark wood, stone and slate decor, at the top end of the high street.
Simply the food was amazing... The chef /owner is just starting out with his reboot of the premises, and came out to talk to us. He clearly loves his job. He clearly loves food. He talked with a passion for both... And all our pakora starters (yup we had a pakora party) were amazing!
Our mains and desserts were as varied as panocotta, steak pie, Chinese curry, spring rolls, and a glorious linguine and mussels (locally sourced and incredibly cooked).
The price is amazing, both for food and drink, with extensive lunch and dinner menu deals.
This is slightly further out than we usually travel, but so close on a train... And suddenly we want more meetings in this area, to find the excuse to back and try more from the menu!
And drink up more of this man's (and his family and friends who support him in his early set up) gently confident excitement and energy!
I think we have just found a wee gem that felt so different from our day to day eating experiences. read more
