The pub itself is over two floors (although I never went upstairs as I didn't realise till too late) with the downstairs being really small for a spoons. Same as any spoons you get cheap food and drink, although here you can also look at shoppers going about their business in the shopping centre. Not the bet view for a pint to be honest. They had also ran out of a lot of the Tuesday steak club food but luckily not the food I wanted. It also took quite a while to arrive. The only thing saving this from 2 stars was the good banter from the bar manager.

The regulars were welcoming and I could have happily spent the whole afternoon here. The downside I find with this place is the toilets, although they are clean, there is only two ladies cubicals in the lounge and only one in the bar. Can mean a bit of a wait when bussy. There is also no disabled toilet and no baby changing facilities. The lounge plays host to a quiz night followed by a game of bingo on a Thursday and a disco on a Saturday. The bar has a big screen and shows football matches etc. Not as busy these days as it used to be so you can normaly get a seat.

It's quite a small pub and it can get pretty busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, but the clientele are really friendly and warm, as are the staff, so it's not an issue. I've been drinking in here for well over ten years with a crowd of friends and it's become the traditional venue for our Christmas Eve pintage. The place was bought over several years ago by a well-known local publican who had a good reputation for fixing pubs up, getting them running well and moving on. He's never moved on from The Sheaf - which must tell you something! On draft there's always a really good selection of guest ales as well as the standards. There's been a real focus on ale in here and you're always assured something interesting to try. The staff are top-class, I'm always greeted with a warm smile. For me The Sheaf comes into it's own on a cold winter's night - it's small, cosy, there's an open fire, auld men with dogs, great malts, tasty ales and a warm welcome.

It is a friendly place to enjoy a few pints with smiles, jokes and conversation at the ready if you're in the mood for interacting. If it's your thing there's a pool table that many try their hand at. There's a nice little beer garden outside which is particularly good if you're a dreaded smoker like me and friends who were with me. There is a camp site nearby and so people come for far and wide, which is always a bonus! A lovely little place on a rainy day or sunny!
