Adam and his wife have three children who are often at services and have helped to create as added warmth and playfulness to our community. Shaarei Tikvah was a fantastic Hebrew School and a wonderful Educational director, Sara Birnbaum who also attends Saturday services with her four children. In addition for the last 30 years, the synagogue had had a gifted Cantor, Gerald Cohen, who has composed many musical compositions, operas and melodies that can be heard in synagogues around the country. They welcome interfaith families, have very liberal membership policies and recently began offering services for interfaith couples that are planning to get married and want to share their "engagement" wth the community.

On June 7th of this year my husband passed away. We had his memorial service in the Chapel in the Woods at Kol Ami for a substantial but reasonable price. I called them to find out about Yizkor Service attendance. (A one hour service) The executive Director told me it would cost $400 for my daughter and I to attend this service due to security reasons. While it may be reasonable to know who is going to attend in advance, I question whether two people will cost that much for security. I believe that Jewish law directs that no mourner should be turned away from Yizkor worship. In the end, my daughter and I went to Yizkor Services at Woodlands Temple with friends. No charge and a welcoming atmosphere.

This is a reform Jewish temple in the area which does a "Babies and Bagels" event a few mornings…read moreevery week. It's a cool thing actually, because it gives area residents a chance to chat it up and it gives the babies the opportunity to chill out and check out other babies. Open to all, so even if you're not Jewish they'll be happy to have you. The staff was very, very nice, and some of the people were too. Though, there were a few Scarsdale ladies who obviously thought they were the second coming of Sheba, there to to be lavished with praise and attention from us peons. Ugh.
