Planet fitness with the black card package is the absolute way to go without a doubt. The hydromassage, total body red light therapy, and tanning booths are priceless! The "Judgement free zone" policy isn't an advertising gimmick they really do run by that moto. Everyone is welcome and treated with respect and dignity. I see everyone working out from 18-80yo and of every body type and fitness level. I'm a BBW model and I am very comfortable there. There aren't the sleazy guys showing off and hitting on girls trying to work out that I've encountered at other gyms. Everyone is there to get healthy or healthier. About 6 months in, my swipe card did not work & I couldn't enter the gym until I could go on staffed hours and get my card reset. They said it had only ever happened to one other person - but I was still upset I couldn't get into the gym for 2 weeks or so. The free weights & machines are easily accessible and there is a good variety for all body types and workouts. They also changed their back room into a "CrossFit dungeon," but the ceilings are not that high and the squat racks are somewhat unstable and swing. They used to have towels for members, but now they no longer provide any. When I went to cancel my membership a week in advance, like their policy/gym contract states, I was one week early, only to find out I was "one day late" according to the owners, and was charged an additional month, without even being in the area/going to any of their gyms. I thought that was a total rip-off of $35, since in my mind, I cancelled in time. Overall, okay gym.

I came in during the middle of the class and one of the professors greeted me warmly and encouraged me to get in on the class! I was really impressed with the class and the great instruction. In a small town, they really created a strong atmosphere for learning and community. The instructors were very clear on the details and went around and made sure we were executing them correctly, which is definitely not always easy to do with a large class. Even their fundamental classes had great details that a seasoned grappler can benefit from! Lastly, the sparring was great. People were friendly, competent, and competitive! In my rolls, I felt safe with my training partners and didn't feel anyone was trying to win at all costs. I highly recommend this place for all people and will be back if I'm ever in the area.

After moving to Warren, PA for work in January, I began my search for a place to train. Fortunately, about 30 minutes north of me in Jamestown, NY, I found Kinetix Combat Sports & Fitness. Kinetix offers BJJ and Muay Thai for both adults and youth - as well as a Women's Kickboxing class. For Jiu Jitsu - all of the instructors have their Black or Brown belts through the BJJ Revolution Team under Julio "Foca" Fernandez. For Muay Thai - all instructors are certified through the Thai Boxing Association of USA. For a beginner like myself - the smaller class sizes are a huge advantage, as I am able to gain more personal feedback and instruction during regular classes. Every partner or instructor I have ever rolled with or drilled with has been humble and patient with me as I try to improve my skills.
