We needed a fast consultation call and Kim Schaefer was the only lawyer that ended up getting back to us. It did take about a week for us to schedule a call, and the call center that they use wasn't that helpful, but all lawyers are always busy and we were just happy one of them responded. The consultation call was actually the cheapest call I could find (50 dollars, where most calls range from 100 and up), so that was really convenient. Other than that, Kim was really knowledgable and she gave us some great and reassuring advice about travelling as a tourist with a K1 visa pending. -10 if that was an option. We had a horrible experience with the company and Kim as a whole. They are eager to take your money and leave you hanging! We had absolutely no help whatsoever from them, we were the ones who always had to reach out to get updates about our case. We recently had an emergency and I called to see if I could talk to Kim about what we should do and our next steps, the receptionist told me we're considered "new clients" and they wouldn't be able to help us for a couple MONTH! Like come on I have one question and now that my money has run dry you have no time for your clients? What a joke! The receptionist then proceeded to hang up on me while I was trying to explain we aren't new clients we are your current clients! Run far far away from here! 1. Careless: I believe this immigration law-firm is overrated. My brother's wife has a parent-petition that has not been filed since August 2020 (YES, 1-year since they hired this law-firm and nothing has been done yet) and I have an asylum case that not much has been done since February 2021. I think they exaggerate their level of caring and understanding about an immigrant's pain and the ability to empathize with them. As you know, refugees and asylum seekers are very vulnerable with little to no resources at all, especially someone whose lives depend on a favorable decision by USCIS. I am going through many obstacles right now including financial hardships, emotional and physiological stress and more and the last thing I need is a lawyer who does not care about any of it or importantly doesn't care about the outcome of their client's case. Unfortunately, this has been my experience with this law-firm. I am from Afghanistan and I believe I have a solid case with concrete evidence and the only thing that can ruin my chance to receive an approval is a legal counsel who chooses not to represent me in a satisfactory and timely manner. 2. Overbooked (Over Capacity): My experience is that this immigration law-firm will NOT be able to meet your minimal expectations because they are overbooked and have no bandwidth to help potential new client(s). For some it may be just a matter of an immigration benefit (petitioning for relatives, renewal of green cards, work permits etc.) but for me it's my chance to present my case and receive a protection status otherwise if I am deported back to Afghanistan, I will be killed by insurgents so yes it's a life-death situation for me. This immigration lawyer has failed to properly represent me and so far, has not taken the necessary steps to rectify their mistakes. I feel I have an adversarial like client-attorney relationship with this law-firm. It's just awful not receiving any attention from your attorney especially when you are in a dire situation and need dedicated time from your attorney to help you with your case. 3. Dishonesty: This law-firm used every excuse to postpone and further delay working on my case. For example, some of the reasons include sickness including COVID-19 spread, extended holidays, short-staffed and understaffed, technology issues and breakdowns, attending AILA annual conference for an extended period of time, long statements that requires an extensive amount of time to be organized but months of time is not sufficient and many other excuses. I am sorry I don't want to call anybody a liar but if I reach out for an update and every time all I hear is a silly reason as why nothing has been done, while I will try my best not to judgmental and be as reasonable as possible, I begin to worry I'm being lied to because it does not make any sense. I always thought U.S. attorneys have a high level of integrity but what I experienced at this law-firm not only is unprofessional and unethical but also may be in violation of the attorney's legal obligations because it is clear the way I'm being treated can have negative effects on my asylum application. I feel I'm being abused because of my immigration status as well as being taken advantage of which is unfair to me. The reason I haven't said anything about my experience publicly is because I was intimidated and feared retaliation against me. 4. No communication: I admit the attorney at this firm appears to be knowledgeable when it comes to immigration laws and she is nice as a person when you finally get to talk to her after trying 6 or 7 times to schedule a virtual meeting (zoom or a phone call) but it's a nightmare reaching out to her. For example, I have 27+ emails and messages that have been ignored and I never received any response back. At this point, I am just disappointed in choosing to work with this law firm. I am suffering more from anxiety as a result of working with this law firm than my immigration case because not only I am not receiving any communication but because we sent almost a blank asylum application to USCIS without any explanation several months ago and my attorney has failed to update my asylum case so far. This is jeopardizing my right to be heard. I believe having this law-firm to represent me is the biggest failure in my case. 5. No attention to detail: Every time we called we are being told that "someone is working on your case and someone will reach out to you to update you about the progress tomorrow" but that tomorrow never comes, and we tried again and again only to hear the same thing. We don't blame the office staff and I bet they'll try their best to downplay the mistreatment and everything I said here but if you are reading this and still haven't changed your mind to look for a better immigration law-firm then you should waste your time, money and energy and try it for yourself - maybe then you will be able to actually feel and understand what happens. read more
