Do NOT make an online order with Scheels... what a freaking nightmare. We ordered a $700 item that their website said was "In Stock"... so, to be on the safe side, I called the store to verify that they, in fact, did have that product in stock... the guy I talked to assured me that they did have the item. So, I placed the order...mere minutes after placing the order (paying for the item for store pickup) we received an email saying it was "out of stock" but that they had one at another store that would be shipped to the Wichita store, but would take 7-10 days. Needless to say, we were not happy! 13 days later, the Wichita store FINALLY got this item back in stock (according to their website). So, I called the store again and spoke to an individual who assured me (again) that they did have the item in the store. So, I asked if our existing online order could be filled by the item they currently had in the store...(no brainer, right?). He said, after checking with management, that we would need to cancel our existing order, then they would set the item aside and we could come in, pay for it, and pick it up. Of course, that meant we were at the mercy of their refund process (which took 5 days, btw), so we were out $1400 until they decided to refund our money. We picked up the item later that same day with no more hassle...thank God! Never, ever, again will we make an online order from Scheels... we like the store, but my goodness, for an employee owned company, one would think they would take more pride in their customer service. read more

5/26/25 Absolutely horrible customer service. I called on Saturday regarding this recent release and was informed that these items were raffled, and if unclaimed, they would be available for pickup on Sunday. So, I called Sunday morning and they said, 'Oh, winners have until today when we close to pick them up; if not, it's first come, first served on Monday morning.' I then continued to monitor stock availability on the Scheels Wichita website. I arrived on Monday morning at 9 AM, went to the shoe department, and the employees there were of no help and had no idea what I was looking for until they called customer service and were told that the items were up front. We walked to customer service, and he asked the woman working in CS if there were any Jordan 4s left. She replied, 'Yes, let me check,' and came back saying, 'We only have an 8 or a 13.' This matches their website availability, so I confirmed that 13 is my size, only for the woman to give me a side-eye look before going back into the room. Then, two men came out and said, 'No, we only have a size 8.' I replied, 'So you had a size 8 and 13 until I confirm I want the 13?' I told them I thought it was first come, first served after the raffle pickup time was up, which was 6 PM on Sunday. He proceeded to lie to me, shaking his head and saying those were assigned to the raffles and that the winner had called and said he would pick them up, contradicting everything I had been told during the two previous interactions. This is blatant dishonesty towards the customer to either keep the pairs for themselves or a friend. These Scheels employees need to stick to their policies and be reevaluated for their positions as the supposed people in charge (Joe Spilridge and some 4ft11 man so short couldn't read his nametag) did not know how to properly handle this situation. I feel like I was being judged by the color of my skin undoubtedly, very unfair and racist vibes. I will be looking forward to hearing what the boss named Lucas has to say about this. I have never dealt with such unprofessional behavior, all to try and spend my hard-earned money, forced to deal with employees lying in my face, going back on everything they had previously told me, and escalating it into a confrontation. read more

This place is astounding! The aquarium at the front door is awesome! There so many utems stocked in here you can't believe! Row after row of hunting, cMping, fishing, toys games, sports items, shoes, clothes, you name it! Guns, fishing poles balls for every sport! 2 floors of stuff pa ked in every nook and cranny. Stuffed animal, both real and toy type. A huge scenery of stuffed wildlife on the 2nd floor. Batting cage, golf cage, 2-lane bowling alley, a shooting gallery, food, the list goes on and on. Poor experience. Wife bought me a rangefinder on Black Friday for Christmas. $149 item, Black Friday sale $99. Open it up on Christmas and it had obviously been opened before, even the battery protector had been removed. Looked thru it and something was wrong with the optics. Like you were looking thru someone else's prescription So I go to rerun it and go to service desk and they want to give me a refund card for the sales price. I ask them can't I just do an even exchange, otherwise I won't really be getting the original sales price. They say go to the department get one and come back. A manager even looked thru it. So I go to the department, don't find any evidence of them ever having that model so I ask an associate in that area if they have the model on my receipt. He was less than helpful and took me to display case I just looked at and told me that's what they had. Asked if they were going to get any more of my model and he said come look in a few weeks. I live an hour away. I explained to him the pair I got I expected had been returned damaged before, since it was already opened etc and if I didn't get same model I would lose the $50 sale discount. He didn't really care. So I go back downstairs to cancel my refund card and credit the credit card. When I get to the service desk I notice the return receipt says "customer changed their mind" for reason of return. So I asked them why they put that on there when it was clearly defective. She goes and and talks to same manager again out of hearing range and comes back and doesn't comment on it at all does the return to my card. Summary 1. Bought defective unit that was returned previously 2 retuned it and appears they are going to put it right back on the shelf for someone else to buy 3 customer service didn't care if I had a bad experience 4 associate in department couldn't care less if I had a bad experience 5. Pretty much got feeling they couldn't care less that they sold me junk, sale price wasn't being honored, that we made two trips to the store, or that I was leaving without the merchandise I wanted. 2/19/25- ONE employee on registers! Five people deep, don't even tell me there weren't enough employees. Witnessed multiple employees on both floors talking amongst themselves. Fully aware people are assigned departments but that was RIDICULOUS! Left my items and walked out. read more

I recently went and purchased a gun. Tom was amazing and helped me every step of the way as this was my first gun purchase! The staff is very accommodating. Prior to buying the firearm I ate lunch at Ginnas (the Cafe inside the store) I have a gluten allergy and the first piece if my gluten free pizza made me break out in hives head to toe. I know they are not certified gluten-free by any means, but I have never had that happen with anything I've ordered anywhere. Not even dominos, and they have flour all over the place. I love this store, but just a warning for anyone with food allergies... PLEASE be careful! read more

Pretty spectacular store. Chuckled a little when I asked an employee for a specific brand of lure and his exact response was "I don't know, can you just look for it?" Another employee in guns was super helpful and nice. I know his name started with a C. Christian maybe. Shorter with glasses. Really took his time to help.
