There is a long clean beach where you can sunbathe, or the more adventurous can try out some of the watersports on offer. Also for the adventurous there is bungee jumping from the tower on the end of the pier. Behind the beach there is a Sea Life centre that is supposed to be good, although I haven't been there. There are lots of cafes and restaurants on the streets behind the beach, as well as quite a few nice ice cream shops. It is quite a touristy place but it's still a nice place to visit. If you are visiting Scheveningen over New Year then you can take part in the Nieuwjaarsduik (New Years Dive) on New Years Day , when there is a swim in the North Sea. In the summer there are weekly fireworks displays.

We came here mainly for James Turell's land art called Celestial Vault. But afterwards we decided to check out the beach and the restaurants nearby. There's a great selection of different cuisines. We didn't see many people on the beach probably because of the weather and the day of the week. It's pretty clean and the shore is of decent size. I figure it will be a good place to swim if the water isn't too cold.

We were…read moresitting outside having some nachos and drinks when the nice waitress offered to save a table for us inside since we wanted to have dinner there. Upon entering, we see Gijs (the manager) switching a table for guests (who have been sitting in the corner for a while) to our "reserved" table. Upon asking if we can sit there, he said flatly no. We have 3 dogs and the waitress reserved the table for us. In response, Gijs stated in Dutch "niet mijn probleem, jullie kunnen hier in de hoek zitten". Hmmm.. in the corner with 3 dogs: that is impossible. After my partner tried to explain, Gijs got very aggressive and was posturing quite threatening in my partner's face, which I found abnormal behaviour for a manager. He didn't want to help us find another table that would suit 6 people, which is a shame. We paid for our snacks and drinks (2 of which we didn't drink), and left. I felt so ashamed that your manager treated us that way, especially with our weekend guests. This really ruined our Easter. I told Gijs we were going to talk to the owner, of which he aggressively replied "ok: ga je gang". Very shameful behaviour. I have been going to this place for years. I recommend going as long as the manager has some training on being more customer-focused.

It's a great spot to enjoy the weather, the ocean, but mostly.. for people-watching. The beach was also surprisingly clean in spite of the huge crowd on a random mid-August weekend. Grandma Hilly tells me that if you walk down a little, there's also a nude beach.
