Die James-Simon-Galerie ist das neue Eingangsgebäude und Besucherzentrum auf der Museumsinsel Berlin. Benannt wurde sie nach James Simon (1851-1932), einem der bedeutendsten Mäzene der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin. Das Haus ist Teil des Masterplans Museumsinsel, der 1999 beschlossen wurde, um das UNESCO-Welterbe zu bewahren und gleichzeitig zu einem zeitgemäßen Museumskomplex umzugestalten. Der Entwurf für das neue Gebäude stammt von David Chipperfield Architects. Als Besucherzentrum übernimmt die James-Simon-Galerie zentrale Servicefunktionen. Neben Tickets und Informationen zu allen Häusern finden Besucherinnen und Besucher hier ein Café, einen Museumsshop, ein Auditorium und einen Raum für Sonderausstellungen. Das Gebäude dient zudem als alleiniger Zugang zum Pergamonmuseum und über die unterirdische Archäologische Promenade als einer von zwei Zugängen zum Neuen Museum. Nach Fertigstellung des Masterplans soll die Erschließung über die Archäologische Promenade vom Alten Museum bis hin zum Bode-Museum reichen. Café und Restaurant der James-Simon-Galerie mit Außenterrasse am Kupfergraben werden auch außerhalb der Öffnungszeiten zugänglich sein.

Berlin is a city that you could have 4 days and barely cover the basics, so I am so impressed with OBW for squeezing so much history, culture, and art into 4 hours. The tour covers many different areas and eras of Berlin, and I think it is a must do for any first time visitors to Berlin. Really helped me find my footing of Berlin's history, culture, and geography.

From the moment Glen introduced himself, he shepherded our group from site to site, finding us shady spots whenever he could whilst sharing his voluminous historical, cultural, and cultural knowledge of Berlin and Germany. He also used multimedia very effectively to explain the sites and sights. His knowledge of Berlin and Germany is matched perhaps only by his love and respect for both--the latter of which was particularly manifest when he explained the book burning site, the location of Hitler's bunker, and the Holocaust memorial.
