Prices are modest and you can expect to spend 2 hrs or so walking through.

We went on a Saturday afternoon and saw only two other visitors which made it feel like I owned the place. The handful of rooms that are preserved are covered floor to ceiling, and the ceiling, with ornate woodwork. These rooms alone made the trip worthwhile. They have a really impressive collection of cabinets in all sizes. Ornately carved and in amazing condition. They also have great collections of glass, ceramic and porcelain. I had fun imagining their use in everyday life. In the attic they have exposed the joists so you can see the original structure. The grounds are beautiful and it's a short trip from the city. I would highly recommend taking an afternoon to visit.

The Palace of tears is a former boarder crossing point that was created 1961-1989. It's definitely worth visiting. Pro The exhibit does a great job in having the audience engage in history. Pro it gives you an interesting perspective on what German people endured during the Cold War when attempting to cross the border between east and west. I see why it's called (Palace of tears) because I can only imagine how devastating it would be to see so many people having to say good bye to their love ones under such stressful and restraining conditions. I appreciated the personal stories that were shared and documented. I thought they did an excellent job in translating history. When you walk through the check point, then you get to personally experience what so many individuals and families experienced when crossing the border. In addition, they have some nice maps and souvenirs to purchase at the end of your visit.

We easily spent over an hour in here reading up on things. Really heart breaking was the interrogation room and the stacks of belongings that were abandoned at the station. The Allee IS the sight, this is the main thing you come to see - the buildings. The whole area is constructed in a typical old Soviet style, the sort of which I had only seen in books. This means lots of angles, lots of symmetry... hard rock and the like. Highly unique and very striking! There is a great statue of Karl Marx a little way down as well which is great to see and to take a photo with. Another of the highlight here is the famous Cafe Moskau. It has a sputnik on the roof, you cannot miss it! When we were there it just so happened that there was a beer festival happening as well! A huge, international, beer festival at that! It was a pleasant surpise! This is a fantastic walk with a lot of history to it. It's nice just to walk along and think about the past. As long as you don't mind a rather long trip, this is a must!

It was neat to see what they were like when first built and the conditions that the people used to live in. The tour guide was also very knowledgeable. I also loved that they let you open all the cabinets and touch the old stuff to get a better picture how it was different from what we have today. Also, it's all free!

This picture gallery is a collection of artworks and sculptures originally amassed by Frederick II…read morein the mid-18th century. As was befitting major artwork collectors of the time, the gallery included pieces by masters such as Rubens, van Dyck, Rembrandt, Raphael, Titian and Guido Reni. Displayed by painting schools, artists were divided into east and west sides of the gallery. Over time the artworks in the collection experienced major changes--in 1830 56 pieces were allocated to what became the Altes Museum, in Berlin, then additional lost or destroyed during WW II. The 62 remaining paintings were subsequently supplemented with more pieces and sculptures in the early 19th century. Built on the site of a former greenhouse, the exterior is modest compared to the ornate gilded finishes and Carrera marble walls and floors on the interior. Paintings are arranged along one wall with windows opposite, and there is a small gallery room at one end featuring some of the smaller scale artwork. November thru April this gallery is closed. During other months of the year, opening hours are 10-5:30pm similar to the other buildings in Sanssouci Park. Tickets for this individual building are €8 regular adult or €6 reduced (for children, seniors, disabled attendees), or can be booked as part of the Sanssouci+ package for €22 regular adult or €17 reduced. There are separate combo or family tickets available online or in-person too. Expect to spend about 20-30 minutes here though with the audio guide (free if I recall correctly) you could probably spend longer listening to more info about the various artworks. The building is not wheelchair accessible. Also if I remember correctly bathrooms are available in the main palace building though not here. Fun fact: in G-maps you can virtually walk thru the gallery.

Up until last week, I wasn't even aware that Kreuzberg had a museum. But while walking from my…read moredentist back to my bike, I passed by and was intrigued. In fact, I almost walked in right then, but thought better of it and went home to work. So when it was a lazy and somewhat cold Sunday afternoon, and my fellow and I were thinking of something to do that involved leaving the house but not being too cold, I suggested the museum, which, lucky for us, is open on Sundays. And off we went. The museum is actually the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum, so there's a little bit from both sides of the river. On the mezzanine, there is a room with old printing presses and types which you can explore. Then the first floor is a permanent exhibition about the city. It mostly covers Kreuzberg, showing the destruction of the area after the war, and detailing the history of the NKZ. There are models of the streets and the buildings, with interactive things along the way, such as drawers you can pull out, audio clips you can listen to, and more. The rest of the museum is made up of changing exhibitions. For example, floors two and three focused on six different spots in the district, discussing their histories from past to present. There are also places where you can write down or contribute your own ideas or experiences pertaining to the places, which is pretty cool. One more floor up and there's a floor map of the area. Hand over your ID for an iPod loaded with images and sound clips that take you on themed tours of the area. Finally, the other temporary exhibit was photos of street art, which were posted throughout the stairwells on the walls. All in all, we probably spent between an hour and two hours exploring the museum. It is free, educational, and interesting, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants more of an in-depth look at the area.
