The original brick is still there, showing the damage from the bombings during WWII. They do have inscriptions in English, though they are grey and difficult to see without better lighting. There are also pieces from where they excavated and the reamins of a damaged synagogue. The the left side of the interest, or located in the back is the brick memorial. Rows and rows of bricks are inscribed with names of Jewish people who were deported during WWII. There are 12,000+ bricks. You can find Anne Frank's brick here as she was born in Frankfurt. They are in alphabetical order. In order to go into the old Jewish cemetery, you will need a key. Closed on Jewish holidays. Use your Frankfurt card for a discount.

Goethe was well educated and privileged and it helped him to be one of the best German writers ever in history. Located on the banks of the Main with lots of cycle paths that lead through some gorgeous bush and countryside, this is a well preserved city with beautiful architecture. Very interesting buildings and some of great historical significance. Great al fresco cafes dot the streets and, there is a central market square where markets are held on weekends and so on. We were given an overview of the workings of the Bundesbank, which thanks to the euro is just a whole lot of price stability. There were plenty of information booklets AND tote bags to go around. Then it was down to the money museum. This blows the Atlanta Fed's museum out of the water. I am still mad that we didn't get to stay that long because I think I only explored half of it. There was so much currency to look at. We're talking ancient coins to the current Euro denominations. The inner workings of a central bank were explained in an interactive way. There was a game where you play the president, and I was terrible at it. It also stopped working on me, probably because I was that bad. They do not give you free shredded money, however, and all the packages you could buy were a bit too big for me. I was one of the last in the group to leave, and I was returning my little token to use the locker. The security guard was so nice, and gave me on booklet I may have probably ignored otherwise. It was entirely in German, but it showed every Euro coin so I could figure out where all my coins were from. Without him giving me that booklet, I probably wouldn't have 12 coins stored away right now. And he made sure to point out the free chocolate coins, which are kind of cooler than shredded money...

But that's art, right? Karl Otto Götz's "Bild vom 15.12.1952" was interesting and the Armand Pierre Fernandez "White Orchid / Gesprengter Sportwagen" on the wall certainly was different. And some artists that I had seen before including Jasper Johns' "Targets" and the Warhol "Dance Diagram" were very nice. A great opportunity to see art.
