From the moment we met Executive Director Monica Brewer and Assistant Director Valerie Valentine, we felt an instant connection. They truly listened to our concerns and welcomed us with open arms. This school is filled with so much love, fostering a nurturing environment where kids are encouraged to learn through exploration. Each child is seen as an individual, and the teachers guide them in a way that feels both personalized and engaging. I'll admit, I knew next to nothing about Montessori education going in, but I'm so glad we kept an open mind. The curriculum is exactly what my wife and I were hoping from a Montessori and a diverse group of students (and parents) from all around the world! There is a cozy feel to the class which provides individualized attention while enjoying the vitality and "kid-ness" of having a group of peers to play, play, play! We are thrilled with our son's progress in math, reading and reasoning (saying something for a 4 year-old!) and know he is getting a good foundation for learning and that learning is fun. The stunningly poor management became clear to us quickly and the only reason we kept out toddler there as long as we did is that it took us several months to find and enroll in an another program. I'm so happy we did. Our whole family is happier as a result. Some of the teachers (at least in the infant/toddler room) were good. Ms. Doris was the sole reason we allowed our child to continue attending LS as we searched for another daycare. She is wonderful and I hope she stays. The overall childcare staff seems to be a revolving door--you're never quite sure who will be watching your child each day. We just weren't comfortable at all with the ever-changing staff, but the Director and whomever else is managing that place from the top were so incompetent, we just couldn't keep our child enrolled in their care any longer.

It's a small space without natural light, but it does feel bright. It's clean and the children seem happy and well cared for. We are likely not pursuing a spot for two main reasons: the lack of natural light and the lack of a dedicated playground, or playground nearby. We feel strongly that we want our daughter to have outdoor education incorporated into her day, and I wasn't thrilled with the idea that she would have to walk on busy DC streets to get to a park without playground equipment meant for her age. In short, I think it seems like a perfectly nice place, but I don't think it's the right fit for us.
