You have to be patient when wood burning. I really liked my final art! We were provided with instructions on how to take care of it and washing instructions so we can use it with food. It sounded like a structured program where children would be introduced to new techniques and build artistic skills. That was not the experience we had. Instead, much of the week consisted of coloring pages and free drawing with very little instruction. To make matters worse, my child came home upset after being told by one of the teachers that they weren't doing their art the "right" way, which seemed completely at odds with the camp's stated philosophy of encouraging creativity. I agree with another review that described this as feeling more like basic childcare than an instructional art camp. If that's the type of environment you're looking for, it may be a good fit. But if you're expecting the variety of classes and hands-on art instruction advertised on the website, our experience did not match those expectations.

Their website makes it seem like they have distinct classes throughout the day. Instead my daughter worked on drawings of pokemon throughout the day with little to no instruction or guidance. She did mention day 2 someone helping her learn how to layer colors on a preprinted coloring page. I am so disappointed and angry and feel like this place misrepresents what they offer. If they were up front about creating an environment for kids to be self directed with art without a published schedule at least I'd know what I was signing up for. When I spoke with the person in charge (manager? owner? She never introduced herself) I was told that my daughter had selected to sit by herself and that they provide a stress free environment for creating art. I would have liked to be informed that this was happening so I could check in with my daughter but instead I was only told this when I expressed anger at wasting my money. Feel free to give them your money if you'd like to spend it on glorified babysitting.

They really care about technique here and, as I have visited other studios, I have noticed that DMA does a really spectacular job. Not only this, but they are really well-rounded. You can get a quality education in ballet, jazz, modern, musical theater, tap, and hip hop with teachers that are great in their field. They are home to even some professionally-affiliated companies like the Chicago Repertory Ballet Youth Ensemble which I was a part of for 2 years, and the Trifecta Youth Ensemble which I have been a part of for a while. No matter what style you're interested in, they have something for you. They have a musical theater program that brings in agents and gives help with self taps from working actors, they have a ballet conservatory, they have hip hop companies, a tap company, jazz company, and a modern company, as well as a mini Glenbrook South poms "prep" company and an Edgebrook All-Stars poms "prep" company. If you just want to take classes with no companies, they have that, too. Don't be fooled, just because they have many different styles doesn't mean they are lesser quality, because DMA puts care into every style they have. As a mainly ballet-lover, I am able to do a variation (dance) en pointe as well as be in the modern company. It's great because even though I did not like ballet as a kid, I grew to love it in the classes I took and was able to decide to take more of them because of the opportunities here. I was even able to go to the YAGP National FInals in Tampa because of the fantastic ballet company. Needless to say, please consider DMA. I am close to being a senior in high school and will cherish the time I had here. I really feel well-prepared as a dancer and a person because of my time here. They really instill in you that a dancer is worth more than their body, the titles they won, or what style they do. To us, dance is an art form and a sport. The last thing my family needs is another activity, but I like the flexibility of Code Ninjas. We signed up for a monthly membership for 4 hours. You sign up ahead of time for a day/time that works for you so that you don't have to commit to the same time every week. As of now the options are 4, 5 or 6pm on the weekdays and 9, 10 or 11am on Saturdays.  I've learned that you just need to sign up at least a week ahead to grab the day/time you want. I would love to see more time options on weekends- later on Saturdays and Sunday times too. My son has been 4 times so far and seems to love it more each time. He submits the actual work he's doing so that I can see it and actually play the games he's creating. His 5 year old brother absolutely loves playing his big brothers games and is begging me to sign him up for coding too. They do have a class for junior coders, but it's more of a builder class (I believe on Sat mornings) vs coding on your own. The work they do is graded by senseis and they progress to new levels similar to how it works in karate (yellow belt, etc). That keeps him and his peers extra motivated, although he seems motivated by the work itself. He's also already asking about doing a roblox camp next summer and while we have time to decide on that one it's something we'll definitely check out.

We had a little trouble signing in since the zoom was under my name instead of my daughter's so i suggest changing that ahead of time. This wasn't quite as interactive as the other cooking classes my daughter has been taking virtually (mostly thru outschool). For FlavorPot's class Chef Cristina demonstrated and there was a helper who was fielding questions from chat to make sure all went smoothly.
