Why meditate with a singing bowl? They are said to promote deep relaxation, reduce stress, and enhance focus, creating a sense of inner peace. Despite the noise from the cicadas and the faraway sound of traffic, it was a gorgeous evening and I found myself lightly dozing?, relaxing while listening to the instruments. This was the last outdoor session of the season, with the fall sessions to be held indoors. If you are open to trying new experiences you may enjoy a singing bowl meditation. She had a lovely space set up outside to take advantage of the beautiful weather, all the materials ready to go, and a couple projects planned. From age 5 to 40+, all our guests had a great time creating bowls, platters, figurines and projects of their own imagination. We printed designs in the clay, rolled and shaped and stamped, then painted with underglaze. Everyone got to make multiple creations. Can't wait to see the finished projects after they're fired and glazed. As we left, several kids asked me to pass on info about Claire's classes to their parents so they can come back - a sure sign they had a great time.

The first week we all were quarantined for Covid-19 my kids were bummed to miss their favorite…read moreclasses. Then the realization hit that we would be stuck at home for weeks (maybe even months...fingers crossed not the case) local businesses got creative. Since then I've been a bit overwhelmed with my kids virtual schedules and would do anything to drop off one of my kids somewhere...and even drive a carpool. Some virtual classes have been better than others. Yesterday we had a music teacher (not at Rootz) send out the wrong zoom passcode and teach the entire class without realizing any kids were on there. But today we had my one of son's favorite classes, Super Hero Boot Camp, here at Rootz take place on zoom and it was the best virtual class I saw yet. Mr. David was well prepared by sending us parents some worksheets (scavenger hunt and coloring page) ahead of time. He had a fun superhero background on zoom and engaged the kids for 40 minutes with super hero activities. Since they are so young it did require a parent to be present and think my husband had so much fun that I may have to sign him up for the class in the future. Are 43 year olds allowed? My son did get distracted a few times, which probably also happens in class, but overall he had so much fun. While he wishes he could see all his fellow superheroes in person, this is a great plan b.

I stopped a young man who was a student and he explained exactly turn by turn how to get to the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse which houses the rink. He was a shining example of the type of friendly, respectful and well spoken student one would hope to find here. The ice rink was state of the art and spectator seats were comfortable chairs and not the usual bleacher style seating. It was a comfortable temperature inside as well.

The coach is also the athletic director so his behavior can affect multiple sports. We filed a complaint with the school administration including the new college president regarding this matter, but not sure if anything will be done to address the issue as the president did not want to be directly involved despite our multiple attempts. Another administrator who is very professional reached out and assured that necessary steps will be taken to improve the athlete experience. I sure hope improvements will be made as Lake Forest otherwise is a good school with friendly and caring professors. The team/class/roommates were also friendly.

There was ample parking when we arrived, and the entrance to the theatre was clearly marked. We were immediately greeted by a gentleman at the ticket counter who was absolutely wonderful. I wish I had remembered his name--he was so warm and welcoming and made us feel genuinely happy to be there. The seats were very comfortable, and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of legroom. I really appreciated not feeling cramped, as I often do in many other theatres. The live music, lighting, sound, acting, and singing were all top-notch. I was incredibly impressed by my experience here and can't wait to return for another show!

As a patron of the arts, I am privileged enough to see a variety of shows in a variety of spaces and the Citadel is one that I can say is consistently great and offers a variety of shows at very reasonable prices. The theatre space is not huge, but for me, that means there is never a bad seat in the house! They have a reasonably priced concession stand and have a wonderful staff in the lobby that is always friendly and helpful. Bonus points for them always have little touches that reflect the current show--for example, today's show revolved around college admissions and there were all of these college pennants adorning the walls. There are clean bathrooms, an accessible bathroom, and there is plenty of parking. The seats are comfortable, well-spaced, and the sound system is great. My grandmother is a little hard of hearing and she can hear most everything the actors have to say! I always look forward to my evenings planned at the Citadel Theatre!
