Our family is pretty conservative, but when it comes to music we are all in. If someone wants their kiddo to learn the basics of music it is here! If your kiddo wants to rock hard its here, for sure! When we stepped into the beautiful new building we were transported to a world of rock & roll! (Including a student lounge if students want to bring in homework to work on between sets!) After checking out the website, we brought our son in for a free trial lesson, and there was no turning back!! It is not a cliche - there really is something here for everyone's needs! School of Rock has truly been a life changing experience for our son! Obviously, we feel that having kids learn music is enriching and an effort that is worthwhile. Music lasts a lifetime! However, we appreciate how School of Rock takes this to such a higher level by actually teaming students up with other band members. They become accountable to one another and build a strong bond. Young children to high schoolers. We've watched students come in as a beginner or advanced. Our son came in after spending a few years in private lessons elsewhere, however was lacking the musical connection with other musicians and lacked experience in performing. He was pretty shy when he started here, but the transformation in him is remarkable. His confidence is soaring now. It's tough to come in to a place when you are a little bit older because friendships and routines are already established at a lot of places, but here at SOR the staff and other students just invited him to jump right in and now it almost feels like he has always been here. He feels so comfortable with his instrument now, that he is picking up another one in addition! We feel that it has improved his work ethic during his school day as well! I cannot encourage other parents more to enroll their kiddo in School of Rock. It is so much fun coming to the performances and getting to know the staff and other parents. Sometimes I'm not sure who appreciates the cool venues more - the kids or the parents! If you want your kiddo to have something to look forward to every single day, then bring them here! I like that my children enjoy their lessons and LOVE the instructors they work with. They feel like they are doing something fun and not just going to another music lesson that I have dragged them to in the past. They are excited each week to come to SOR. After 3 years of piano lessons, my son was so burnt out and wanted to quit, even though he loved playing the piano. He switched to drums when he came to your school, and there are many days that I don't have to remind him to do his lesson. He even sits down at the piano again somedays, just for fun. It has also been wonderful to see them take an interest in rock history, listening to great bands, from all genres. But, hands down, my favorite thing about SOR is the positive influence the instructors have on my kids. My son thinks Matt is the coolest person in the world! The work they are doing together, is helping Chase focus and work towards goals each week. He wants to do well. It's hard to make kids care about things that benefit their well-being. He doesn't understand how much this is benefitting him, he's just having fun. And Sawyer is so pumped up for Rookies each week. He comes home and teaches all of us the song that he learned that day- I love hearing him belt it out with such pride! Sawyer isn't ready to play an instrument and practice every day. School of Rock is a fantastic program! I am so glad that I came here, it's a good place not just to play music but to bond with some amazing people, both students and instructors. The kids are all really close to each other and are just a bunch of fun to be around. The instructors are also all professional musicians or music majors from around the area, and they inspire me to work hard. Ever since I joined School of Rock at the age of 14, I have grown a lot as a person and started to appreciate a wider variety of music than I did before I joined. The performance program here is very fun - in addition to learning how to play music with a full band you also learn stage presence and good performance techniques during a rehearsal, and it makes this place twice as cool. Overall, if I didn't have School of Rock in my life - I wouldn't be who I am today. I joined there as a shy middle schooler who could "play" the guitar but now I am almost done with high school and have developed multiple other musical skills (such as vocals [now my primary instrument], bass and a bit of drums), in addition to growing more confident and hardworking than I was when I started. Anybody interested in this place should totally take the chance to sign their kid up because it is totally worth it. read more

My son is 10 and says that taking guitar lessons at SoR is probably the best thing he has ever done. He started six months ago as a complete novice. A few months ago he joined the performance group and will be playing his first show (Devo) in January. He is thrilled. He not only loves the school and the format, his skills have improved tremendously. The performance group keeps him accountable since he has certain parts that he needs to perform with the band. He practices without being asked and honestly it has forced him to manage his time better when it comes to homework. It has even reduced his time on the computer. I get the impression that the kids really feel like they belong and it's a cool place to be. My son's level of maturity and confidence have noticeably improved. My son has liked all his instructors and the staff have been accommodating and very responsive. I should also mention that SoR was highly recommended to me by several families we know. read more

This place is amazing, It's really helped me learn to express myself through music and overcome my performance anxiety. When I first joined I was too anxious to sing or play music in front of really anyone, and through the help of the wonderful staff and instructors I've gotten to the point where it's easy for me to perform! I've gotten more confident and learned a lot through the school!! The staff are all nice and friendly and make me feel really appreciated. I think this is such a unique and amazing place and I wish I had heard about it sooner. This place is amazing! I started here about a year ago and instantly fell in love. This is such a unique place and it's helped me so much! I've learned a lot about music and even picked up a new instrument! It's gotten me out of my shell a bit and through help from the staff and instructors I've started to overcome my performance anxiety. I've been playing music at the Seattle School of Rock for about 6 years now, and I can say with confidence that it is the best way I know to get your kids interested in and playing music. All of the staff is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable in music theory, stage performance, playing techniques, and many other music and non music related topics that will help your child to become not only a better player but a better person. Specifically related to camps, which is our experience: It's amazing what is accomplished in just 5 days. We just finished our 2nd camp and this time added my son, and they had a blast. Their feedback is very positive, the staff is very good with the kids, and even the vibe between the kids is supportive. I like the teachers. I like the way they communicate with the kids. I love that they are passionate about music. I think working together in a performance group is an ideal way to engage young people in learning an instrument and in the whole performance experience. It's hands on, people to people. My friends go to SOR Seattle and they're all amazing musicians, they love it here and I have hung out at their rehearsals sometimes (taking the bus from Bellevue all the way to Seattle sucks) but hey if you want to get your kids enrolled in either this school or the Bellevue School (which I go to), then you need to do it - they would love the opportunity! read more

SOR has not only given my son the opportunity to play in bars as an eight-y-o (who wouldn't love that?), but the friendships he made at two of the summer camps turned into a band. and the band's already had a couple of gigs, plus one coming up on new year's eve. it's really a fabulous environment. read more

Just started my 14 year old in school of rock on guitar and the performance. This is the right place at the right time for us if you know what i mean! She loves it. Walks there and hangs out with friends in the lounge. They take away their phones for the 3 hours of rehearsal - love it. read more
