Here is why my rating is so low. when i signed up for this school I was misinformed about it being a Montessori school. I saw the teacher interact with the kids and be nice or playful with them during the small window of parent pick up. I believe these people are good people, they are just old school and set in their ways. the woman has a long history in the education system and feels that she knows everything and if you want to try and talk to her she will get defensive and rude and talk over you. no matter how many kids are around watching the scene. they have more kids than they can take care of and teach. a couple weeks ago I picked up my son and found this little boy with his pants down, exposing his penis, instead of getting up to help this boy who couldnt do it on his own, she encouraged him to do it on his own. she was too LAZY to stand up. I wrote them a letter about my concern because at home we build our son up and talk to him about independence while also explaining that our privates are only for us and we dont show them to our friends. they were very rude back to me after I wrote the letter. they got defensive and gave me every excuse in the book about why it happened. today I went in just to sit in on the class. I figured maybe I was over reacting and once I sat in on their MONTESSORI class I would feel better because I would see how nurturing they are and how they acknowledge each childs feelings and needs.. I was so wrong! what I saw today was so sad. teacher Mary sat on the floor of the kitchen area and made kids count eggs, she included them even if they were doing something else. she would say "get me that basket, pick up those toys" my favorite was when one of the little girls took something from another. the teacher sighed very loudly and said " did you just take that from her? you need to stop, thats so rude" thats how that situation was handled and so many others. she talked over top of the kids while some kids sat in a different area not even noticed. on the other side of the room was bill doing a teacher guided writing activity. there was an extreme lack of respect for the kids. more of a "my way of highway" attitude. this one boy wasnt listening and he got loud and said "you need to write you a's NOW" I had heard enough at that point I started writing a list to myself so I could go home and talk to my husband about my concerns so we could make our next move. teacher Mary stood up and said " you have more complaints???" I told her I had a few and before she ever let me talk she started accusing me or things and being horrible. she was talking over me in front of the whole class, she told me i just needed to get out and I was being disrespectful. I complained, how am I suppose to talk to you guys about anything when there clearly isnt an open door policy" at that point I was crying and she just kept telling me to take my kid and leave.. teacher Bill took me into the other room to try and have a conversation with me. explained that they dont have the money and they are trying to do their best (which I believe is true) but they just have too many kids and are too old to have 8-10 kids in there and be able to teach them using the MONTESSORI way. i explained my concerns about talking over children and he had an excuse for everything. I put my child into preschool so he could have the same respect from his teachers and peers that he gets at home and there is no way those teachers are going to belittle me in front of children and claim to give those kiddos respect. he explained over and over that they arent perfect and i just kept talking about consistency, they are a normal structured teacher led preschool. DONT LET THE NAME FOOL YOU. honestly even if I wasnt looking for MONTESSORI I wouldnt recommend taking your child there! terrible experience. my son told me weeks ago he wanted to change schools because the teachers were sometimes mean. they dont understand what it means to respect kids and acknowledge feelings because for whatever reason they think they know it all and are too old school to change their ways.. save yourself the time and money and your little child the heartache and find yourself a different preschool home! The principal and teachers are warm and welcoming, and our son finally felt he is cared for! hE IS IN 5TH gradeThere are 17 students in the classroom , and he thrives, he retains more information, now that he is able to interact with his teachers and get his questions answered. He adapted from the first day and made friends easily, I strongly recommend this school beyond other private schools!

Only a small portion of the donated money goes to helping parents with tuition the other amount goes in the principals pocket. My kid was never challenged and always told me their group would not get help when their hands were raised and the teachers only paid attention to the donator's kid. No hot lunches are served. Highly disappointed in this school. On top of tuition, do note that they expect a donation of X amount of dollars per school year. The educational system of a private school is failing.

They do not care about the students well fair, or mental health. They hire inappropriate substitute teachers and everyday teachers. When I say inappropriate I mean lowkey either pedophilia or the teacher doesnt do there job. When My peers or myself would report the teacher or sub it would be taken with a grain of salt and would be ignored. There was a substantial teacher that I had twice, and each time would go up to the boys in my class and start massaging there shoulders and start saying "how's your work going baby?" And would continue to say thing about how they wanted to convince some students in my class into there home. And this substitute is still working there. Another example of a teacher being out of line was a math teacher named br. Burton, who works at skyrdige middle school. He would sit there for the entire class period, and tell everyone about his life. He never taught us the curriculum and would get mad when we would have a class adverage of an F. Again, my peers and me have reported the teachers that have been out of line and it has been ignored. At one point, one of my friends was being bullied and they reported it over and over and it was ignore and that friend almost committed suicide because they where being ignored. It took the person almost committing suicide for the school to do anything about the bullying.

My child is currently enrolled and is so excited to go to school everyday, as a parent, I couldn't be happier. Each week a theme is introduced by children's books, and then crafts, projects and games done throughout the week tie into that theme. The school gives parents a weekly/bi-weekly handout explaining the theme of the week, the titles & authors of books they are reading, and what the preschoolers are working on. I find this very helpful because I can ask my child specific questions about what he is learning that week in school. There are three wonderful certified teachers in the preschool, and along with the high school students who are in the Early Childhood Education program, the preschoolers get so much attention! RCP has their own OUTDOOR playground, trikes & scooters, a viewing area for parents who wish to observe, and all this for an affordable price! One other thing that I appreciate about this preschool is the healthy snacks. The children have a choice between milk or water to drink, and snack frequently includes fresh fruit or veggie, and/or other creative HEALTHY snacks. This is our second preschool in 2 years, so I have some basis for comparison. I highly recommend Reynolds Community Preschool!

I would like to begin by saying my husband and I couldn't be happier with our experience and our son loves to go to school. The preschool is under the direction of qualified preschool teachers who oversee a group of high school students who are studying Early Childhood Development. If you haven't considered high school students working with your child, I HIGHLY recommend you do. My son loves all the one on one attention he receives and I appreciate the positive influence they have all had on my child. I am also impressed with the precautions put in place to ensure the chidrens safety. Somebody is always standing at the door to greet the arrivalsand again at pick-up to make sure the children do not leave without a parent. I also like the fact they have a two way mirror in the observing area and your welcome anytime to observe your child. Also, at $90 per month, I have found Reynolds Community Preschool to be the most reasonably priced of the preschools in our area. I will definitely be sending my son to Reynolds Preschool next year.

This is our 4th year at Holy Redeemer and are so grateful we found this community! I heard many…read moregreat things prior to applying and felt the sense of camaraderie from our first interactions. Our daughter's Kindergarten year was so amazing we enrolled our other child there as well. Their personalities are quite different, but each has been supported in the way they needed and have thrived. The staff seem to love what they do, which shows in the way the carry themselves, their creativity, but most of all, their commitment to the students. When the COVID-19 Pandemic started, it became clear their commitment and standards were WAY above others. The level of detail, leadership, immense planning, investment in equipment, and willingness to consider suggestions from parents has been immeasurable. I honestly don't know how our family could have gotten through the last year without the supports received from school staff AND other families. It takes a village and they've proven themselves worthy. Their before and aftercare staff have become extended family. For us, with no family here locally, this has been the icing on the cake. As difficult as 2020-2021 has been, I'll always have fond memories for their vision, perseverance, creativity, and dedication to their students. Not to mention the diversity, learning opportunities, and amazing music and art staff! They're one of a kind and have had such an impact on so many. I'm proud our children are Holy Redeemer Wildcats and strongly encourage you to consider them. And one last thing. Their principle, Mrs. McPheeters, has been a breath of fresh air. Her inaugural year as principle threw more curveballs than I can count. While I know it's had to be stressful, she's never shown it. Our daughter was a very slow-to-warm-up kid and had never been in a group care setting before so I worried about her ability to separate when it came time for preschool. The teachers helped her through her initial nervousness with endless patience and warmth, and 2 years later she's a confident, kind, collaborative kid who is SO ready for kindergarten. I truly credit Willow Tree for that. We will miss this place deeply and can't wait for our youngest to join when she's 3!

The school was the perfect transition for him (and me!), as it was welcoming, organized and fun to be at, which gave him the right amount of structure balanced with the freedom to be himself. When I first met Kim, the owner, I told her I felt like it was what I had imagined that perfect preschool would be for my son--natural materials, a beautiful setting, and an outside play area and garden to explore with wonderful teachers and kids. My son truly enjoyed going to school each day and my husband and I could tell that he felt valued as a part of the school community. He had his own hook, cubby, cup and wash cloth at school, as well as a "me" book to share and a journal of his own to write and draw in each day--small details that made my son feel pretty special. He enjoyed the visiting art, music and yoga teachers that made each day interesting and dynamic. I know he felt safe and free to explore and discover. He came home happy, focused and even more open to collaboration with his younger brother. We loved that the school hosted events and field trips that included the children and parents, which helped our entire family to be a part of the community as well. My husband and I were always delighted to receive a "Daily Page" each day by email that recounted the day's activities and projects, which we shared with appreciative aunts, uncles and grandparents. Kim and her staff made special efforts to let me know how my son was doing, and I always felt like they were open to hearing my concerns and suggestions. We're sad to be leaving Portland this fall, but if we were staying, I'd want all three of my kids to be part of Willow Tree.
