McGinty Auction House is run by a young woman named Justine and her family. It is a small, locally…read moreowned business in the Clinton area- and one that I'm always happy to support. You can tell the small group of employees are a tight-knit group that really do always try to put their best foot forward. I've looked through the items this auction house offers multiple times and I'm always really impressed with their array. They have everything from furniture to home décor to tools to lawn equipment to gardening supplies to toys and games and collectables. Literally everything. Whether you love antiques, resell items, or want something new for your home at a ridiculously affordable price; this is the place to get it. They hold auctions weekly and are always very professional in the way they handle everything. Everything is clearly and neatly displayed and pictures are even posted on their Facebook group so you can get an idea of everything they are offering and decide if there are items you'd like to bid on up for grabs. Most auction houses now-a-days are still a bit 'old school' so I REALLY appreciate the fact that they advertise a lot of their items online so I can get a fair idea of what they are offering before I make the trip to Clinton. I haven't seen any other auction house that also posts great high-quality photos of their items online. I've discussed with Justine about her selling my items, and she's been very honest with me about the way she does business and has offered me her services in a fair manner. Compared to other auction houses I've spoken with, McGinty Auctions definitely has the friendliest reps and they're always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty in ensuring all of my questions are answered, and my concerns are addressed. Every time I call they pick up their phone and they're more than happy to talk me through everything. Whether you're looking to sell a lot of your old things, or you want to bid on some new things- this auction house is by far the best in the Illinois / Iowa area. I've been to a few different auction houses and this one always stands out as the one that offers the best service, the most diverse array of items, and the best prices. They have A LOT of furniture that can be upcycled for a profit- and also a ton of great items to sell on eBay. Totally worth visiting when you have some spare change to spend. There's always a treasure to be found here!

Reschedule was necessary due to life-threatening weather conditions. Not a single walkway, drive or entry had been plowed on the new pick up day. Seemed very unprofessionals and ill-equipped to be offering internet auction options. Item descriptions were not accurate, many items were damaged and unusable without disclosure. images did not match titles.& more

Buyer Beware - Overall Experience…read more I have purchased from Sharpless Auctions many times, always hoping to find a good deal. Unfortunately, my experience has been disappointing. I have received far more damaged or unusable merchandise than items in satisfactory condition. In my experience, many items appear to be damaged merchandise returned from retailers such as Amazon, Target, and Costco. I have received items that were so badly damaged they were completely unusable. Packaging is also frequently torn, heavily damaged, dirty, or has a mildew-like odor. I have also experienced purchased items being unavailable or missing at pickup. They claim they will look for the items and if not found will reimburse you a week later. I have heard similar complaints from other buyers while picking up merchandise there. Another concern is that listing photos do not always clearly show the extent of damage, making it difficult to accurately assess an item's condition before bidding. I strongly recommend inspecting items in person whenever possible. Buyers should also be aware of the 7% sales tax and 15% buyer's premium, which add approximately 22% to the final bid price. I understand this is a "buyer beware" auction and that the auction house states it is not responsible for damaged or missing items. However, I believe potential buyers should be aware of these risks before bidding. I am sharing my personal experience so others can make an informed decision. My advice is to proceed with extreme caution, inspect items carefully, and consider whether the potential savings are worth the risks and additional fees.

Their photos are horrible and if you happen to be some fool that buys something up there you better cross your fingers and hope that it's there when you go to pick it up... I would not drive very far if I were you.. I have been going to auctions and estate sales for over 25 years and I have never seen a company this horrible or rude in my whole life.. Do yourself a favor, don't do it... As a buyer or a seller stay far away

The auctioneer and the item displays are fine. But letting…read morepeople sit in chairs and on stools right at the table is ridiculous. They park themselves well before the sale starts, and WON'T MOVE so you can look things over! They act like you are trying to take food off the plate in front of them if you try to see around them. Then,if you happen to be standing at the next table, where they seem to think they own the spot, they will shove their stool/chair up against you until you move! Unbelievable rude people shopping this auction. I don't think we will attend again until this practice is stopped. Regulars or not, they are hurting business. Ask them at the food trailer, they hear complaints constantly.

I'd recommend them for anyone needing an auction of an estate. Going to their facility is always a treat. The building is nothing to look at (and I will say their parking lot is sometimes scary in the winter. I'm terrified of ice and sometimes I've seen some areas that could do with salt) but it doesn't need to be fancy to accomplish what they do. If I had one complaint it would be they should try to find some way to make parking better. On "big" auction days you can end up parking on the side of the road a block away. They always have things laid out nicely so you can see everything clearly and do their best to keep things that belong together in the right spots. The auctioneer is usually the same guy, Tyler, and he is very good at what he does. His helpers hold up items, bring them to you to look at closer if you missed it the first time around, and will gladly separate something out if you want to bid individually instead of having it as part of a lot. They always start up things like chainsaws or lawn mowers so you can see them run and will tell you if something isn't working and they will tell you if something is damaged. They seem to know a lot about different things (like what the collectibles are and what's worth the big bucks) Best of all, they will let the crowd know if they're getting too rowdy and loud and tell people to go outside if they're just going to stand there and make noise.
