We loved this orchard SO much! I couldn't believe the amount of fun, free entertainment packed into this farm. We ended up spending nearly three hours bopping our way between activities and snacking. We enjoyed cider, a variety of donuts (including apple cider and pumpkin with cream cheese icing), a big ole bag of "seconds" apples that were in great condition, paid for the four wheeler/train ride through the peaches and much more. The kids especially loved the goats, slide, tractor ride through the property and corn "Sand box". Bathrooms and snack stands were plentiful and clean throughout the front portion of the farm. The staff was all very engaged and friendly as well. I loved that this spot didn't feel cheesy or over commercialized like some orchards can become. It was truly perfect. I've been to Schwallier's a couple times now and have had a lovely experience each time! If you don't get there right at open (or close to it), parking will be very hectic. While they have someone guiding you most of the time, people visiting are not always the most mindful and don't let you out to give up your spot. There is only one entrance/exit for cars, so I think they need to be a little bit more upfront with the flow of traffic and constantly have someone guiding everyone to ensure that parking isn't backed up. There are pumpkins, tracker rides, a little parade car for kids (and adults can fit too) and a play area for the kids. I think it's the perfect place to grab donuts, cider, pick some apples and grab your pumpkin. Just be warned that some areas may be more hectic than others, but that's what you get with a sunny October weekend! read more

While visiting my parents and sister in Grand Rapids from Washington, D.C. in October, they took my seven-year-old daughter and I too Schwallier's. It's only a 30 minute drive from Grand Rapids and comes with a large parking lot. On a Saturday, we got there right when they opened at 9am to beat the crowds and enjoyed a pretty empty farm for a few hours. It's free to use the front slide, shop in the store, and pet the goats. (There are baby goats.) It's $14 to take the wagon to the back area where there's a large corn maze, more slides, go karts, trampolines, and more. In the same area, they have apple launchers. 12 apples cost $5 to use in the launchers. Compared to other fall farms, this one is smaller, but my seven-year-old loved it. Spent a sunny September morning at Schwallier's recently with a bunch of friends and their kids. I'd never been, so I appreciated the employee who was greeting everyone and directing people to the different areas of the farm. The main draw for our group was apple picking and the doughnuts. I started by getting one doughnut - the caramel glazed apple was delicious, fresh, and perfectly crumbly. For u-pick apples, purchase a bag at the register outside the main store and then you can either walk into the field or take the free wagon ride out to the back 40. They list the varieties available for picking at the front, and we knew we wanted some honey crisp apples, which seemed to be the majority of the trees. It only took about three minutes to fill our entire bag - these apples were huge and the branches were all full. I also grabbed one Blondee apple which turned out to be my favorite! I'll have to go back and get more - I'd never seen that variety before. The farm has lots to do for kids - a little train ride where you sit in a barrel decorated like an animal, baby goats, bunnies, a slide, corn pit, corn maze, concession stand, and another spot for food. The farm market store has lots to buy, tons of jarred salsas, sauces, honey, kids books, kitchen items - it's chock full. We ended up buying another half dozen doughnuts to share with family and they were all super fresh and delicious. It's a bit pricey for apples - you can get 20 pounds for $20 at Grange in Rockford, whereas at Schwallier it's more like $8 for a small bag. It was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon, so get there early to avoid some crowds. read more

Every year, as a family tradition, we enjoy going to Schwalliers for fall fun. Love the colors, excitement, and electric activities for the whole family. The parking lot is a decent size, but can quickly fill up. The grandkids enjoyed all the farm animals, especially the goats. Be sure to buy the pumpkin donuts, apple cider, and some blueberry jelly. So many wonderful treats. Hop on a tractor ride and head to the end and experience the corn maze, tricycle racing course, apple shooting cannons, and trampolines. The staff are welcoming, and seem to enjoy their work. The only downside is the expense. It's easy to drop 50 to 150 bucks for the day. read more

We have never been to Schwallier's Country Basket and today we were not disappointed. It was a busy day at the farm but the staff remained calm and attentive. The lines were very long for cider/donuts/etc. but it moved pretty quick. I have been to a few different farms similar to Schwallier's and the donuts from Schwallier's were the best I have ever had. There are pumpkin and apple cinnamon flavors and they both were incredible that we took home a dozen! The market also had cider, cider slushees, soda, jams, honey, caramel apples, pies, soup mixes and other various canned goods and pastries. I really like that there were options for kids, ie. kids books and puzzles. There are a variety of things to do at the farm. Some of the free things include petting the goats and bunnies and a enclosed wagon ride. The other activities such as the corn maze, the apple cannons and u-pick cost extra. There are a variety of apples to pick from for u-pick. As pictured below, the apple trees were so full of apples! If you wanted to feed the goats, a small cup of food costed $1. We were there around 1:30pm trying to feed the goats but they seemed very uninterested because I am sure they have been fed plenty earlier in the day by other customers! We actually ended up dumping our food out in their bowl so they could eat it later. There are also pumpkins at the farm, but not in a pumpkin patch setting. Just in the grass already picked. They did have wagons to haul the pumpkins which was super helpful! In regards to lunch on the farm, there is a barn (called the N.O.B) that had various items such as kettle corn, nachos, burgers, tater tots, pretzels with cheese, french fries etc. A good place to sit down and have a snack if you get hungry but it isn't anything super mouth watering or special. Overall a great farm to have a date with your honey or a day with the family! If you plan to visit, I would try to come early in the day so the goats are hungry and the lines aren't as long. We had a great time with our family and would definitely come back. While it was pretty busy, it's not nearly as busy as Robinettes. The donuts were delicious but I wish they had their own apple cider. The small concession stand was another easy option to grab snacks while watching the kids play. They have a ton of activities for the kids (and adults!) to enjoy. The kids loved the multiple play sets, stack of hay, the big slide, petting zoo area, and many more. I went here this Saturday with my family I thought we were going to have a fun relaxing Saturday but turns out it was the exact opposite... I did not believe my eyes on what I was witnessing the workers were nightmares one of them a lady that looked like a man gave me the most ugliest disgusting horrible disturbing looks on the planet me and my wife got really upset over this an hour passed by and they were hitting on my wife and whistling at her .. and they were being really racist to my kids especially one of the workers callling my wife and son beaners... never coming here again good luck to the animals they treat them bad too they had it like me but 10x worse I had a seen a bunny with no tail ... and another one just crippled and the goats were skinny and unfed.. and the chickens looked very unhappy and sick... read more

Convenient location on Alpine with everything you need for family fun- petting zoo, apple orchard with U-pick, pumpkin patch, corn maze, play structure, donuts, cider, and a farm market with all sorts of goodies. This place gets packed on weekends, so plan accordingly to wait in lines and scour the lot for parking. My favorite time to go is after school on a Thursday or Friday. read more

This place has been a fall staple for me for... 16+ years! I started coming here in high school for the donuts, then pumpkin picking with nieces/nephews & friend's kids, and now I bring my son here! Schwallier's has it all with out being too big or obnoxious like some of their competitions. They have animals to pet, places for kids to play, some farm rides, pumpkins, apples, and the bakery. OMG the bakery. Yes, the still are small and humble. Do they get busy, yes.. but it is what it is! I'm happy to see them busy.. and I'd wait in like for 24 hours for those donuts! Never been to an apple orchard before but this place was really cool. Went on a Saturday afternoon with the family and some extended family. the Large main barn houses a shop with fall trinkets, jams, bagged apples, cider and a couple display cases full of donuts. They had a nice variety of apples to pick from and maybe it was early in the season but all the trees had plenty of nice big apples on them. We mainly picked the Fuji and Gala. You can pick from 3 or 4 different sized bags and we ended up getting 4 "peck" sized bags for $45. In addition to apple picking, there was a small playground for the kids, a hay stack they could climb on a couple of little pens with animals they could pet/hold (goats, kittens, chicken) which was all free. There was a 10 min cart ride for the kids thru the apple fields that cost $3 (extremely bumpy for adults). There was also a field of pumpkins available for purchase (did not visit). After apple picking, we decided to purchase some cider and donuts and enjoyed them at one of the many tables outside before leaving. Awesome place! read more

No help in anything no direction and could not find staff around to help or direct I will pick another one next time that's out in the country. This is one of the best cider mills I've been to. They have so much to offer! There are hay rides out to the corn maze and apple picking. You can pick your own apples, filling a bag, and the apples are delicious. It's beautiful, too! The corn maze is outstanding. It is an educational experience with new themes each year. This year, it is about pollination. My 6-year-old nephew could've spent all day in it! There is a pumpkin patch, hay to climb, photo opportunities, a little train with carts for children to ride in, water pumping boat activities for kiddos, adorable goats and a petting zoo, and best of all... DONUTS! There are so many options for the donuts, it's hard to pick! So definitely grab 6 or 12, or more! The very minor downfall for me was that the donuts weren't warm... I just love a fresh, warm cider mill donut. Still didn't ruin the experience for me, though. :) I highly recommend Schwallier's, especially for families! I will be back. read more

Won't be back. There are too many other orchards to visit that treat people with courtesy and respect. Visited Saturday stopped at the map in front of the store to plan out trip and was told very rudely by the older lady in the apple costume to move out of the way, there were other people waiting to see the map (we had not been there long either time). Also everything in an upcharge the only ting that is free is petting the goats and children's playground. The "hayride" is not a hayride it is a two block long ride on a wagon with benches. read more

We held a company party here. The staff was so wonderful, they made the process seamless! There was activities for children (of all ages). The adults really enjoyed the corn maze, and every kid I talked to loved the goats. They accommodated our needs for billing. We were also able to bring in our own caterers who worked with the orchard staff to get what we needed. A pleasant time was had by all, and we are hoping to return for the bi-annual party again! read more

So I had no idea that this place was so much fun! I like to take my nieces & nephews on some type of hayride or corn maze each fall and this year I found a Groupon for Schwallier's so I decided to give it a try! I pass this place all the time & never really gave it a 2nd thought. I am so thankful for the Groupon because I ended up LOVING this place! There is so much to do for kids & families! The corn maze (without the Groupon) was $6 but the other activities were free! They have baby goats you can pet & feed, a cool slide in a barn, a huge hay stack the kids just loved climbing all over, a pumpkin patch, a cow train and the corn maze. You could easily spend a lot of time here without breaking the bank! They also have U-pick fruits. When we were there I decided to pick a few Blondee apples to try because I had never had them. Ipaid for them at the snack stand & continued exploring. The last thing we did was stop in and buy some donuts & cider. When I was buying my donuts I mentioned to the cashier that I was excited to try the Blondee & he immediately told me they were past their prime & gave me back the money I paid for them. I would have had no idea at all & I was impressed & appreciative that he did that! The donuts were yummy & they sell cider in cute little pumpkins for the kids (and maybe for me too!). We've taken our kids here every year and it's always great. Fantastic service, great apples, great pumpkins. But I will say the service exhibited by a young man (whose name I do not know) driving the 'cow train' was so cool I just have to share. My kids went on the cow train and another child was crying and my kids said the man driving stopped, which they've never had happen before, but he stopped to make sure the crying kid was ok and then he got everyone really excited to keep going. And honestly, there's just not a lot of younger people that would do something like that anymore for a kid they don't know or have to care about. We'll never go anywhere else for our Halloween festivities! read more

Everyone in the GR area seems to prefer Robinette's for their orchard experience in the fall but I will ALWAYS pick Schwallier's. The petting zoo is adorable. The corn maze was fantastic. Been going here since i was little! Great donuts and atmosphere! Only concern is the "petting zoos" they have ZERO supervision and the kids parents stand there and take pictures while kids are choking the animals, or picking them up by there heads, its really painful to watch.
