A must visit! I had read wonderful things about Science City before our move here and immediately added it to my bucket list of places to take my kids. When it came home on the field trip flyer for one of their schools I knew I had to go. We had an incredible time and as a field trip it was fantastically organized (with multiple other schools there that day). We were able to explore and enjoy all of the exhibits, eat lunch, and play some more. Within days after the field trip we returned so my other kids could also have a day of fun. It was a great outing for our family. Full of things to do it is so easy to spend a full day here. I read so much about the Science museum before I landed in Kansas, and being a science buff myself, I was really curious to visit...but, that day, for some reason they did not open, maybe a private event, or some school children's field day, or, something like that... I did get to see their gift shop though. They have many gifts with pie on them,( the science symbol pie, not the food pie....) maybe if I have visited the actual museum I would have understood the relevance. Pretty cute though....T-shirts, cups, even boxes... But those are not the only things, there is also environment friendly jewelry, agate animals, galaxy lamps, science games, hats, and other souvenirs. Is you need any memento from Kansas , this is the place to buy ! Prices are pretty reasonable and there is stuff for every pocket. If I get a chance to visit Kansas again, my first stop this time is going to be Science Museum at the Union Station. read more

We had way more fun than anticipated at science city! When we first entered I was a little apprehensive and worried that we just dropped a lot of money for a subpar museum but as he make your way in and you see that it continues to go on and on and has wonderful interactive installations. We had a bit of sticker shock at the front door when we realized it was $18 per person including children over the age of 13 months. It felt a little salty for a kiddo less than two years old to enter for $18. We were so impressed by the animal installation, water play features, and the toddler playscape that included a small kitchen and changing room. I'm pretty sure we could've spent several hours in the room dedicated to those three years and younger. It was impressively clean and well managed. They even have a small section dedicated to babies only. It was a little hot for us to enjoy the outdoor playscape but they have a great playground outside as well. I only wish that we had more time to continue exploring. You could tell our toddler didn't want to leave. Parking is available at Union Station so you can conveniently see the grand hall while you are there as well. read more

This place is so neat! Absolutely worth the cheap $16 entrance fee. We spent 3-4 hours here and it was fun for adults and our kid. If you park be prepared for $15 parking fee but it does cover the whole day. We left the car and walked over to other activities that are close by. read more

Read their brochure and you'll learn this is an interactive science experience where children learn... blah, blah, blah. Despite all the educational signs this is an indoor playground. It should entertain children aged 5-10 years old. There are plenty of things to climb up, in, or over. You can crawl, walk, or run on other objects. There are buttons and handles to push or pull. A water attraction to splash in. A bicycle to ride across a cable. A giant hamster wheel. Proving technology is not always for our benefit, you MUST buy tickets online, working through a form that requires a lot of personal info--presumably for later marketing campaigns. The process took twice as long as simply purchasing tickets with a credit card from an employee. There was one, however, on hand to help visitors who had difficulty navigating the online process. read more

Worth every penny!! Our kids played for hours and hours and never got bored! There is an unbelievable amount of exhibits - all hands on learning. Whether or not your kid is interested in science, they will love this place!! There is just too much to do! Even an outdoor playground with a zip line and a massive contained climbing structure. If you had told me five years ago that I'd be reviewing Science City and giving it 5/5 stars I may have told you, you were crazy. I didn't have any kids yet, and it had been years since I visited. Science City actually opened when I was a kid, but an older one, so even in its early years I never really felt like there was much there for me, but flash forward several years - ahem, more than a decade.. and I found myself on a cold winter day at Union Station in line to get tickets for my family to check it out. My toddler LOVED IT. Like every inch of it. There is a whole room with giant play trains kids can walk through and pretend cook and travel in. There's a dinosaur area where little ones can pretend to be paleontologists. There's even an indoor playground, and a massive water table. In short: it's an amazing play area for kids between the ages of 2 and 10. I think any older, they will begin to lose the magic of it, but for little kids and elementary aged kiddos this place is amazing. Two tips I'll leave you with: 1. Arrive early. We got there right when it opened and it was already busy but manageable. I've read some reviews that mention it gets busy and I believe it. We left around 1pm and it was getting really packed. 2. Consider a membership if you are local. We didn't do it this time but I think I will next time we want to go. It's definitely a money saver if your kid likes the space. read more

We were visiting from out of town and our 2.5 year old loved this place, and so did we! What a thoughtful and well designed exhibit of everything from nature learning centers, water area, sky bike, huge train sets and more! We spent over 2 hours exploring all things science and fun while leaning a few new things too! Their new (2 years old) toddler area was so clean and full of unique areas for young ones to begin exploring. If we lived closer we would definitely have a membership here for weekly fun! read more

My 3.5 year old granddaughter loves this place. We've gone twice in the past two weeks, and she wasn't ready to leave either time. She's still young enough to enjoy the make believe play of the toddler area, but old enough to be challenged by the STEM and art projects. I'll grade Science City way higher than science class. This place is a blast, particularly for kids of most ages. It has been a while since I've been here, but in a past work-life, we took a mini-field trip here. I was blown away. Nestled into Union Station, this area is filled with so many things that kids will go nuts running around trying them out. During nicer weather, there's an outdoor play area that is like recess on steroids. Inside, there's a sky bike where kids can ride over everything (through a safe network of wires), plus several demos and exhibits. You could easily fill an afternoon here and it's worth the price of admission which is around $14 per person. Glad to have something like this in KC, and from what I hear, it's getting better and better. read more

We drove down to Kansas City for the day and visited Science City. WHAT A BLAST! We brought kids ages 6-9 and they had a great time. There were so many indoor science and hands on learning exhibits inside we could have stayed all day. The highlight was the outdoor space though. You must go when the weather is nice enough for the kids to play outside. The playground equipment was unique so the kid's had great time exploring it. Parking was easy right next to Union Station. BONUS: Science City is a participates in the reciprocal program membership with the Des Moines Science Center, so if you have a pass to that admission is free to Science City. Would definitely go again and try to stay for the weekend. It's doable to drive from DSM and back in one day but makes for a long day. read more

There were a lot of cool hands on experiences, kids could paint the walls of the creative corner, ride the sky bike if they're tall enough, crawl through two pipes, go down three slides, spin around in the top chairs, play with sand, look at optical illusions, play with logic puzzles, and zipline outside. Love this place!!! Whether you have children or not, coming here is so much fun. I love the discovery of things and tapping into the past when it comes to solving puzzles or thinking outside your everyday box. As adults we tend to forget how fun it was being a kid and discovering stuff. As you make your way through Union Station, enjoy the scenery; so lovely. Took the kids to Science City (1 and 3). The one year old was free but the 3 year old was full price. We stood in line forever to get tickets right before you enter science city only to find out you have to purchase them at the checkout area of the store. Ok...... Anyways, the kids had fun going from room to room. There's a full-size helicopter, Dino dig, outdoor climbing area, experiments, animals, a big hamster wheel you run on, games, trains...anything to hold a kids attention. We had a great time. I want to start off with - I love going to science museums and make an effort to take our son to a new one anytime we can! This place was a huge letdown. Especially for the price! We purchased tickets there (Tuesday during the daytime) and the lady at the ticket counter was less than excited to be there. I don't need someone to be over the top and bubbly, but this lady was rude and short with us. Upon entering the museum about half of the exhibits weren't working properly. Most museums have areas that are geared towards every age group, I would say this is def geared towards younger children, even though most reviews I read seemed to say it was good for all ages. Our 10 year old like a few of the things they had to offer, but it was a stretch to spend much time there. read more

Upon entering this place it's clear that management is trying to suck every last cent out of it without investing a dime on maintenance and upkeep. This once beautiful discovery space has become a junk heap of broken and worn down displays, missing parts and tools, distressed paint. No area seemed to escape this fate. We arrived at opening time and already the place looked like The Last of Us was filmed there. The interactive exhibits had signs saying they were temporarily out of order, and those signs seemed to have been there long enough for the printed colors to fade. The area with perspective illusions had rough and broken displays, which broke the illusion. The water tables had many busted connections meaning the kids would spin a wheel in excited anticipation only to have-- nothing happen. There was only a small handful of plastic shields to route the bleach scented water around so kids were fighting over what little there was. The concessions area had one vending machine with one overturned bottle of water. The counter that once served snacks was now a makeshift storage area with a broken weather display. Someone had laid foam blocks on the blue floor and called it THE FLOOR IS LAVA! They were untethered so it was entertaining to watch children excitedly jump block to block only to have the blocks fly out from under them as the children hit the hard floor. Even the water bottles for cleaning tempera paint off of windows in the graffiti training lab were broken, managing only a weak dribble. One of our favorite displays was the photo wall where you press a button and strike a pose against the wall aa bright flash captures your shadow on the wall. This area was ruined because unobservant idiots put a display with bright lights directly in front of this-- completely preventing the effect from happening. Our kids instinctively tried to clean things much of the time because it just all felt like such a pit. For $16/each we were expecting so much more. read more

Took my two grandsons (8 & 5) in town for a visit and I think I had as much fun as they did. $14 entry is worth every penny. There are so many neat things that teach both kids and adults about things they may have never thought about or knew. There were things I couldn't explain or understand that just kept me focused. Busy but hot so busy that everyone wasn't able to enjoy anything/area that interested them. Employees were very nice and well informed. Loads and loads of fun for the little ones... well... and the adults too! Science City is two levels, indoors and outdoors, has a planetarium, and a movie theater. If you're looking for something to entertain the family for hours this is your place! I took my one year old and met a friend with a two year old. There was TONS for them to do. We love Science City!! We've been members for years (so I'm slightly surprised that I haven't reviewed). Things will change every now and then but it's always so interesting at any age. We've been to their Halloween parties here and those are fun. We've seen the 3D maker machine thing in action. We love the new outdoor area that just opened last year. Science City is a huge museum with different exhibits in it. Lots of hands on actives for all ages but the tweens might start losing interest. There's a cool sky bike that my kids are not officially tall enough to get on yet, but I'll revisit this when they do. This is a pretty awesome place for kids in KC. read more

Pretty awesome and decent sized place! We are members at the Doseum in San Antonio and have museum reciprocity through ASTC. When we went to science city, we had great service from Richard when we were checking in and getting our wristbands. Definitely helped our family have an excellent experience to begin with! Now the actual museum, there are 2 stories of exhibitions plus the outside. If you have a kid, they'll be running around everywhere so be prepared to get tired! They have a variety exhibits that are appropriate for 3 year olds and up to 103 year olds. If you're looking for something fun to do with the family, while learning, this is the place! My wife (who isn't much of a science person) loved this place, so anyone can have fun here! read more

Science City has always been a family favorite. We've been coming here forever. They've improved so much over the past few years! It's awesome! I'm so happy to see them headed down a path to better exhibits and opportunities. Science City is entertaining for all ages, but kids in grade school will probably enjoy it the most. Lots of hands on activities to keep the offspring engaged. The addition of the Maker Space helps get older kids interested in visiting. They have a lot of cool projects going on in that area. You can't help but be excited to check it all out. They run a lot of special programs during the weekend and occasionally during the week. You can see their schedule on their website. The staff members and volunteers that run the programs are always friendly and great at interacting with the kids. Science City is always one of my top recommendations to families visiting KC. It's a great location to spend the day at. Once you've finished enjoying the exhibits you can check out the rest of Union Station and then head across the skywalk to Crown Center for more fun. The aquarium, Legoland, Kaleidoscope, the street car, and the WWI museum are all right next door. You could easily spend an entire day here! read more

The 3 and under area was disgusting. Especially in the crawlers and under specific area. The mats were covered in stains, hair, dirt and crumbs just one hour after opening so it's obvious they don't clean the mats often or well at all. It's especially disappointing that there is such a lack of care and regard for the health and safety of our most vulnerable. read more

4.5 stars. My kid's review: I like it. I like the place. It's very liked. In the winter time it's cold outside and you can go outside so you might want to put a jacket on. And it's like some other science places. There is a pinball game and a tug war in the bottom section, and more. You do get wristbands to go which is weird because usually places for science don't have those. My review: Great science place for kids. The highlight was in a small section with tanks of animals like fish and lizards, where a woman took out a chameleon and talked about it to the kids and fed it worms. I liked this just as much as my kid did! There were lots of different types of exhibits, including electricity/power, acoustics, patterns, animals, physics, magnetism and smell. The place is kind of a spiral with an elevator; you come in at the top and work your way down, then take the elevator up to get out. On the bottom level, there are doors to an outdoor area; we didn't go because it was winter and we had used the coatrack upstairs so we didn't have to drag our winter coats around the whole time. My kid is 6 and had a blast; older and younger kids would enjoy it too (maybe ages 4 to 10 is best? there were a few things my kid was not old enough to do, like the Sky Bike). The thing I didn't like is you can't go here without going through the gift shop to get to it, which is really hard as a parent, because your kid sees/wants a million things before you can even get in the place. Also, there is no snack area, and it's hard to go out and then get back in given the layout and the gift shop problem. These are the reasons for 4.5 instead of 5 stars. We spent a few hours here and my kid had a lot of fun. I liked that there were some benches around so my mother-in-law could sit and rest a little. Ok, for me to rest a little too. Science City is part of the ASTC so we got in free with our Chabot Space & Science Center membership, which was awesome. The place was clean and seemed well-maintained. Science City is bar none the best children's science museum of all the innumerable science museums that we've visited throughout the country. It's insanely large and insanely jam packed with every activity that you would desire to stimulate your kids' young minds and it's even got a gigantic backyard of additional goodies. We've been to a lot of similar places, and I have to say this is one of the best "science for kids" venues we've visited. My kids are teens, so they are older than the target audience, and still had a great time. And, I'm way past the target audience and still enjoyed a lot of the exhibits. Really high quality activities and lots of variety. My kids spent the most time in the DNA exhibit, with the kimono dragon, and playing checkers while watching the trains at union station. If you don't already have tickets you buy them at the retail shop, which no one tells you. So, you wait in line at the entrance and then get told to wait in line again for tickets. There were lots If unhappy parents and children while we were there because of the confusion about where to buy tickets. read more
