Such a great experience, even for me! Walking through the children's books was such a unique experience. I absolutely loved this children's museum. The staff was super friendly, and it kept the 6 year old with me very entertained. Money well spent!
Saying I love children's books is a massive understatement. I'm an avid collector of vintage children's literature (including many first editions), so my standards are high! That's why I'm telling you: if you have kids, or if you're just a kid at heart who loves great stories, you have to visit The Rabbit Hole. It's an immersive, straight-up magical dream. It brings the books we all cherished growing up to life in a way I never thought imaginable. Saying I love children's books is a huge understatement. I'm an avid collector of vintage children's books (including many first editions), so my standards are high! That's why I'm telling you: if you have kids, or if you're just a kid at heart who loves great stories, you have to visit The Rabbit Hole. It's an immersive, straight-up magical dream come to life. Adults and children appreciated the mastery of the designs throughout this place. It brings the books we all cherished growing up to life in a way I never thought imaginable. It costs $15 for each person and it's worth every penny. You walk by Madeleine displays on your way to Barbar, and The Last Stop on Market Street. Each one better than the last. Kids climbing, laughing, and embracing each one with an eye of awe. I learned about the author of story My Fathers Dragon and it was fascinating. So much so I went to the bookshop to buy a copy, along with other books and prints. And that's where such a beautiful experience went south. When I asked the two girls working in the shop about a book and a limited-series print, they were incredibly curt with me. They condescendingly told me I had already passed the book, making me feel like I had done something wrong. It instantly reminded me of when your mom gets frustrated with you simply because you don't know the answer to a question you're asking. It's a shame that such a breathtaking museum experience was bookended by such dismissive customer service in the retail shop. Go for the magic of the exhibits, but be prepared for a cold reception at checkout.
Anyone who looks at my reviews know that a 5 is rare! This exceeded any expectation I had and I was smiling so Much my cheeks hurt. What an Immersive experience! Books were SO much a part of our parenting I was transported to such deep memories. The attention to detail! The places to sit and read incorporated throughout! We went to an Adults only event just to check It out and we have already bought tickets to take our adult kids next month!!!
This museum is exceptional! I felt like a kid again seeing my favorite storybooks come to life! Every single nook and cranny of this space was well thought out and artistically crafted. It was nice to have places for the kids to climb and explore. And there were also spaces to rest and be quiet. I like that each book was unique on display so it wasn't the same old thing over and over again. What I really loved was that they have multiple copies of each book represented in said section. So the ones we hadn't read and were interested in, we were able to discover like The Funny Thing and The Fire Cat. And ones we were aware if were fun to read while exploring like Goodnight Moon (my absolute favorite part), Babar, Frog and Toad, and No, David! The bus ride is a must; so creative and heart warming. We didn't purchase tickets for The Three Robbers experience, but peeking inside I wish we had, it looks great. The docents and volunteers were all knowledgeable of the books. And they were very kind when needing to remind kids of the museum rules. If I lived here I would by an annual membership for sure. And would have gladly paid more than the current $16 admission as I think this experience is worth much more.
The Rabbit hOle is a fantastic experience for all ages! The 21+ only nights are great if you don't have children to entertain (the entry price even includes a an alcoholic beverage that you can carry with you in the museum)! You truly feel like you are stepping into a storybook. There were a lot of classic favorites that I remember from my childhood -- like the Goodnight Moon room that you can walk around with your shoes off! But there were some new stories I had never experienced before -- like the Three Robbers neon special exhibit. There's plenty to explore! Expect to crawl around and climb! There is street and lot parking conveniently close by! This is a quiet area of North KC. This is a fantastic children's museum addition to Kansas City!
The Rabbit hOle Museum hosted an adult only night and it was absolutely incredible! The work that goes into bringing these characters of children's books to life is jaw dropping. Adults can escape into the another world with these fun larger than life characters and is highly recommended, I'm still smiling
The Rabbit Hole is a immersion experience like no other. You get to see your storybook come to life. I took my 1 year old, 4 year old and 5 year old and they loved it. I also enjoyed this place. I can't wait to go back and experience even more. Pay the money to get in, even make a donation. This is the Best Experience Ever.
What an absolute treasure! Everything is well done from the moment you walk in. The fabrication of all the displays is amazing. The books at every turn to read and enjoy- what a delight! Street parking is convenient as their lot was full when we arrived. It really is for all ages of readers with a lovely shop too.

Great place for a no school day! May seem pricey up front but you get a lot for the $. The level of detailed achieved in the exhibits is second to none. Add to that that kids can touch basically everything while possibly learning something and it's a winner. Also I love that the docents actually make the parents stay with the kids so there's no running wild. This really enhances the the experience for all customers.
This was an incredible space to take my two year old. He loves books and many of the installations are his favorite. The quality of the exhibits is amazing with detail and fun in mind. This was such a magical experience I won't forget. The staff were helpful and kind even when my kid broke the no running rule.
A KC FAMILY MUST! The perfect amount of things to do to inspire our kids to want to read (they got us at the gift shop and we happily took home lots of books from my childhood.) Well worth the price of the ticket and a very safe area for kids. that staff rocked! Actors and the story teller (shout out that guy for being the perfect person for that gig) were amazing. We walked slower because it was so fun and were there for about 2 hours, next time we want to do the 30 min interactive exhibits. Thanks to the whole team at Rabbit Hole and PLEASE visit this amazing spot!
My summary of this museum is: about halfway through I realized it's basically a selfie spot for kids. When my family and I started stalking this business on Instagram in hopes of taking a day trip to visit, I was enamored by the cool displays! We couldn't wait to get inside and interact with our favorite stories and discover new ones. I really appreciated that there was a big variety in good literature represented here- It felt like there was something for all ages and across varying demographic lines. However, my outlying disappointment is just that I was hoping for a little bit more of an interactive nature. Don't get me wrong, the little nooks and crannies and hidden tunnels are tons of fun, but I think I was expecting more hands-on play to be incorporated with each story. Whether that's sensory bins for a few stories with their key props, or live readings every now and then throughout the museum, or even little crafts to do along the way. All in all, I'm glad we went, and I truly want to root for this museum concept idea, but I'm not sure it will be worth it for us to return for awhile. It DID look like part of the upstairs was still under construction, so I'm hopeful that they'll learn and add as they go, and we'd be eager to see more fun added.

We made a trip this past weekend to KC and had a blast. This was our first stop! I had seen clips on social media and knew my little book worms would love it. We bought our tickets ahead of time, so we could secure our time slot. However, it looked like you can get tickets there the day of. Tickets are fairly priced, $16/person. This place is a lot bigger than I thought. Once you go down the rabbit hole, there are little burrows to crawl through, stop by and check out the rabbits little house before making your way through. It took us about 2 hours to go through, my kids loved all the interactive pieces to it. They could climb in nearly everything, there was a slide, a fire pole, etc. If you aren't familiar with the books, don't worry, they keep them stocked at each section so you can read it! Once we were done, we made our way to the bookstore. They had a wonderful large staircase that people could just relax and read books which I thought was wonderful little touch. They had a great selection of books and had a section of all the books from the displays. They have a coffee shop but unfortunately it was closed when we were there. The staff was wonderful, the volunteers are all scattered throughout to help customers. The volunteers and staff truly love books and children. We will absolutely be back again! read more
An incredible way to experience books. I went with my nieces and we had a wonderful time. My sister had read most of the books to them before they went so they were familiar with the stories. I loved that the books were in the exhibits. There is a parking lot a block south of the facility ( on Knox Street ). There are team members throughout and kids are able to play as well as experience the settings of thier favorite stories. read more

I don't have young children but young adults with a young heart. We had a wonderful time. We explored everything we could and adventured back to many books in our past. This is a fun place for adults and children whom enjoy reading and share the love for the stories in these books. A few areas were still under construction however we can't wait to venture back and check the rest out. I've never been to a neat book place like this. I highly recommend it. read more

Wow! Really enjoyed our first Rabbit Hole run. Different than we expected, in a good way. The kids (of course) had a great time and actually read a few books. Baba (grandpa), a retired English teacher fondly remembered several of the stories. We (the parents and adults) remembered being read to and had our memory jogged by two of the stories (Frog and Toad and Blueberries for Sal). There's a LOT going on to keep the young ones busy for 1-2 hours. All book sets are imaginative and well-spaced out so you can really soak one in before you move on to the next. We look forward to our next run....down the Rabbit Hole. read more

Every great adventure has a beginning. Here - in an unassuming building in an assuming part of town - you can open a door and walk into The Storybook Land. This land is full of fantastic places - We walked to where the sidewalk ends. We saw Curious George and the Man with the Yellow Hat. We saw Madeline, Katy No-Pocket, and the Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig, too. Then we ended they day watching the cow jump over the moon. There is a lot to see and experience - we were here almost three hours. Reading is highly encouraged. All ages are welcome. read more

This made my inner child so happy today. It's visually stunning. My son and nephew 3&4 had an absolute blast looking and touching and climbing and crawling. I even got crawling around myself We were there almost 3 hours and we could have easily stayed longer. It was definitely worth the $16. We will be adding this to our list of favorite spots for sure read more

This may be one of the most unique places I've ever been. The Rabbit Hole brings children's stories to life with massive recreations and interactive experiences for kids and parents alike. The spot reminds me a lot of the City Museum in Saint Louis with its fun ways kids can play but this place felt more comfortable and way cleaner. You start your experience by walking down into a recreation of a sunken cave that you have to walk around to get to the main desk. Before you go down you should take a peak at the toilet. I know that sounds weird but trust me. The coolest thing about the Rabbit Hole was how it took so much creativity to make it all possible. The first major room you walk into looks like a hobbit hole and is super immersive. In the main room, you can tell the people behind this great spot took a lot of time to perfect their location. One thing you can't miss about this location is the bus ride. It's relatively new and has a really cool experience where you sit down in a small bus across from some children's book characters and then the narrator and characters act out the story. There's a screen simulating the outside of the bus and it's just a really cool experience. The book store is also a really great place to find books. There's a good range of books for kids of all ages and even a pretty big section of children's books in Spanish. I think it's smart to get your ticket before coming. Also, there is street parking around the business and a larger parking lot nearby. read more
The Rabbit hOle has been getting attention from everywhere these days and for good reason. It's essentially a one of a kind artist focused children's museum that brings stories to life for those young and young at heart. Now into the nitty gritty. I've been anxiously awaiting the opening of The Rabbit hOle for about five years. In 2019 when I was very pregnant I was fortunate to tour the space as it was under construction with a tour group. The tour ended with a ride on a bus from "Last Stop on Market Street" which was transformative, and as someone who has worked in the museum industry, totally awe inspiring for what this place could be. I've been on the hunt for more immersive museum experiences that can breach education and entertainment for over a decade, so to see someone taking this creative route right in my own backyard was thrilling to say the least. Of course soon after this tour covid happened and everything in the world was delayed. I've been watching from the sidelines though, cheering them on, waiting for this dream to become a reality. So, when I saw they were opening I waited about a week or so to avoid massive crowds, and then made my way there with my four year old, and husband on a Thursday (our kiddo's birthday). Our daughter had no idea what we were doing, and it took some prodding to get her excited for someplace new, but once she saw the pink rabbit feet leading our path to the entrance she was hooked. Once inside you check-in, pay ($16 per person), and then into the rabbit hole you descend. It might be lame but looking back, while the whole thing is fantastic, the dramatic entrance into the museum is a standout experience. You are transformed from a museum lobby into a magical story world and each of us really enjoyed that aspect of it. When you emerge into the core of the museum it's filled with tons of stories you'll remember from your childhood. Think Frog and Toad, Madeline, Caps for Sale etc. It was so fun to watch our daughter run around, explore, and learn more about books that were new to her. What was even more impressive was seeing how many young kids were actually sitting down and reading with their parents or grandparents. It did something that I think is very hard to do in the museum space - bridge that gap between fun, learning. Overall, after about two hours we had to pry our daughter away and ended up applying that day's admission to a membership. There is still a second floor they are working on, which will include that crazy cool bus I wrote about above, and a cafe that I've been told might eventually feature some food from children's literature. I know this is a long review, but this place is a slam dunk for kids and for KC. I'm so glad it's here, and I hope it continues to inspire kiddos and their families for generations to come. read more
If you are a book lover, Kansas City has the most unique museum to visit and enjoy! It features classic children's books. Many are French authors and most of the titles are from decades ago. The exhibits are interactive and gorgeous!! The scale of the exhibits ranges from large to tiny. The attention to detail is top notch! The best part: Goodnight Moon is life size. It was magical!! They have a great bookstore also! read more

I finally got a chance to stop in at the Rabbit Hole during a quick visit to KC. I was BLOWN AWAY by all of the attention to detail that has been put into each and every inch of this place. The art and craftsmanship truly is bursting is talent. I could've spent the entire day there, and still would've found new things during my next visit! It was so heartwarming to see kids reading books and playing together. Also, watching family's sit down and read together was something we rarely see these days. Rabbit Hole is doing incredible things. I cannot wait to see more of the displays revealed! read more

I do have to say the building is not labeled and we were not sure if we made it the right spot until we saw other families with kids walking up. Once inside the kids were just in complete amazement! Blown away by every detail, illustration, and interactive parts of the exhibits. Can't wait for the 2nd floor to be finished! Such a large book selection too in the bookstore. Lots of areas to sit and rest and read books inside the museum. Will definitely be back. Lots Of children and adults of different ages, there's something for everyone. Best part? The Good Night Moon room read more

Took my little niece here for a morning of wonder and fun. We were not let down. The entire place feels like a children's library exploded into reality. Her favorite was the Good Night Moon room. Mine however was the Where the Sidewalk Ends piece. I am an old Shel Silverstein fan and seeing his cover come to life made me feel like a kid again. If your little one likes books this is a great place to go and a great value. The docents provided excellent service and were there, but not in your way. I'll be bringing the little one back next time I visit. read more

When your kid prefers this place over the Disney exhibit at union station you know you've found something special. You' ll hear just as many "this place is so cool" from parents as you will kids. This parent included. The rabbit hole brings boos to life, with scented from many different books that are very interactive. Touching is not frowned upon, but encouraged. Numerous copies of each book are located next to each exhibit. I don't want to give away too much so I'll refrain from much more description. Admission fee was very reasonable. The staff were very friendly. Parking was also a breeze. It's a bit of a drive from downtown but a must for any kid, local or tourist. read more

What age kids enjoy this? Most reviews seem to be about preschoolers.
Pre-K through elementary are probably the main demographic for most of the exhibits. But if you grew up reading lots of children's picture books, it can be fun for all ages to relive the stories.
