One of the unexpected highlights for me was the incredible collection of clocks. It's not just a display of time-telling devices; it's a fascinating journey through the history of precision, engineering, and human ingenuity. Each piece tells a story, showcasing the evolution of technology and design over centuries. I could have spent ages just marveling at the intricate mechanisms and beautiful craftsmanship. I also found the various science-related career exhibits to be incredibly inspiring and well-executed. They do an excellent job of showcasing the diverse paths one can take in the scientific world, from engineering and medicine to space exploration and environmental research. It's a fantastic way to engage visitors of all ages and perhaps even spark a future passion in STEM fields. However, the true standout for me was the Mathematics: The Winton Gallery. This exhibit is a masterpiece! Beyond the brilliant concepts it explores, the room itself is an architectural marvel. The design is incredibly cool and visually stunning, making the abstract world of mathematics feel tangible and exciting. What an amazing experience at the Science Museum in London! We had an absolute blast exploring all the interactive exhibits--this is definitely a must-visit if you're in the area, especially if you're visiting with kids. Power Up Exhibit: One of the highlights was the Power Up exhibit, which takes you through the fascinating 50-year history of video games. From retro classics like Pac-Man to modern gaming consoles, it was such a fun trip down memory lane! The best part? There are hands-on gaming stations where you can actually play the vintage games. It's perfect for both adults who grew up with these games and kids who are just starting to appreciate gaming history. Wonderlab: Another standout was the Wonderlab--an interactive space that's perfect for kids (and adults too!). This section brings science to life through fun, hands-on experiments. There are so many cool activities to get involved in, from experimenting with light to learning about physics in ways that are both engaging and educational. It's a great way to inspire young minds to get excited about science. Overall Experience: We definitely didn't budget enough time for the museum--it's huge, and there's so much to see and do! If you're coming with kids, I'd recommend setting aside a good few hours (or even half a day) to truly enjoy everything. I try and make it my practice to visit the Science Museum every year. You should too! Innovation just seems to come and go at the blink of eye. Most productivity in the modern-age is a rigorous, systematic endeavor that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the world. However, I have discovered it locally includes a collection of machinery enough to patent the museum's fascination with other eventful collectivity contained within the human's naivety and series of individual views. Besides leading academic publishers, such as Palgrave Macmillan, most modern science is now typically divided into dissimilar major branches: the natural sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, and biology), which study the physical world; the social sciences (e.g. economics, psychology, and sociology), which study individuals and societies; and the formal sciences (e.g., logic, mathematics, and theoretical computer science), which study formal systems, governed by axioms and rules. These formal sciences are disciplines which I believe play havoc in society although they often do not rely on empirical evidence. Most applied sciences are disciplines that use scientific knowledge for practical purposes, such as in engineering and medicine. Hopefully, contributions to mathematics, astronomy, and medicine will continue creating a life for people who understand its placement within the wider community. It is step towards post-education (in academia or social-engineering) where highly proficient learners take precedence and instill social stimulants for others to benefit from. read more

I absolutely loved the Science Museum in London and it was my favorite of the ones I visited (British and Natural History Museums). It's also FREE, and that is always awesome! The Science Museum had an amazing exhibit on the Industrial Revolution complete with many displays of steam powered engines. This was really informative and very cool. There's also some interactive parts, too. I really enjoyed the space and flight exhibits at the museum. They had examples of rockets, a replica of a lunar lander complete with a spacesuit display, THE COMMAND MODULE FROM APOLLO 10 (so awesome) and a history of flight and British aviation (with some really rad aircraft). They had sections on electronics, a kids play area, household appliances, medicines and how humans impact the environment. They had a bunch of interactive displays that are great for people of all ages (I mean, it's probably designed for kids, however, adults love to play with things, too, right?). I really enjoyed the exhibits and the history of everything in the museum and loved to see everything that relates to the United Kingdom. It's also right around the corner from the Natural History Museum and you can easily knock out both museums in a single day if you allow enough time. I highly recommend visiting this museum! read more

I remember the Science Museum form my childhood - lots of buttons to push and things to see. We first took our daughter there about 7 years ago and have returned on a fairly regular basis. There are still buttons to push (although not as many as I remember) and some of the exhibits look familiar.. We try to go on an inset day as otherwise it can get extremely busy - and noisy. Lots to see covering all types of science and all ages . You need to be selective with what you drag the children to as some of it is a bit dry for youngsters but there are some good hands-on areas. We were lucky enough to attend a sleep over in the space gallery which included some great science workshops for my daughter's class and the chance to not sleep on the science gallery floor! The food isn't brilliant. We watched the 3D dinosuar show and were impressed but felt it was overpriced but then since the museum itself is free maybe I shouldn't complain. read more

This is a must do for any family with children and like Natural History museum, it's great as an indoors-because-the-weather-is-dodgy type of activity to keep everyone happy and entertained. Everyone will come away learning something new and if your kids think that science is a bore then this place is just the thing to help them grow to love Science. It has lots of interesting anf exciting exhibits that even the visitors can take part in too which adds to the fun and learning of your experience. It's one of those places that the kids will ask to return to on the next visit and so it's a must-experience in my opinion for all the family. Not far from the Natural History Museum and the like and there's even a tour bus stop nearby. It gets really busy though so even better if you can get there really early or later in the day to avoid the crowds. read more

Das science museum in London ist fuer jung und alt auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert! Wie in fast allen Museen hier ist der Eintritt frei und man kann sich dafuer die Augen aus dem Kopf staunen. Es gibt Hallen, die der Technik gewidmet sind. Dort haengen dann Flugzeuge von der Decke oder man kann ein Duplikat einer Mondsonde bewundern. In einem anderen Teil des Museums kommen ganz besonders alle Kinder auf ihre Kosten. Dort gibt es viele Experiemente, die man selbt in Gang setzen muss z.Bsp. zum Thema Schwerkraft, Licht, Kraeftewirkungen etc. Diese sollen dann den Kindern helfen diese Vorgaenge spielerisch zu erfassen. Ich muss zugeben auch fuer mich war das sehr interessant, also es ist nicht bei dem irgendjemanden, auch nicht den Erwachsenen, langweilig wird. read more

We had a couple of hours to spare after doing the NHM next door so quickly popped in. Boys really wanted to do the IMAX but no money or time for that so we just headed straight to the launchpad to play on the exhibits. Boys - especially youngest loved it. The staff were friendly and helpful showing the boys how to get the most fun out of the exhibits. We tried to mail some vids of the boys dancing - but they haven't showed up - never mind the boys thought it was great anyway. I really liked the music playing in your head exhibit - strangest thing - you gotta try it to believe it. I think we need another visit to London to fit the rest in. read more

Although I've visited the Museum many times, I only recently heard about their Lates events. Once a month, and open to adults only, Lates is a chance for people to roam the museum, take part in special interactive exhibitions based on that month's theme and the best part? No pesky kids running around! The next event is Wednesday 29th Sept 2010, and it's based on STIs! Could this be the recipe for the best first date?? I'm really looking forward to checking out some cringe-y sex-ed videos from the past 100 years, and making my own syphilitic body parts! I love the science museum. Perfect for families with young children and just as good for bored twentysomethings at the weekend. The museum claims to have over 300,000 items including (most famously) Stephenson's Rocket and the first jet engine. There is also a new 3D imax theatre in the museum. Also worth checking out the digital technology wing (if you are an uber geek that is!). If you do have children, it's worth checking out "science night". On science night, the museum opens its doors to about 400 kids (+ parents) and the children get to do a bunch of fun, science based activities, followed by spending the night in the museum! read more

This place is really great. I spent 3 days in here a few months ago, going through the many areas inside. Particularly fascinating was the area on the development of the engine, from the earliest steam beam engines through to the evolution of the steam engine which gave rise to the Industrial Revolution. There is also a section on computers - you can view the earliest mechanical computers and be in awe of their intricacy and of the brains that when into their conception. There is also a section on space (excellent) and flight (including a V1 and V2 rocket from WW2, a spitfire and a cross-section of a Boeing jet.) A great day out read more

The Science Museum is fantastic. It is heaven to any child that likes to fiddle and make things work. It does get busy so the children need to be able to wait their turn. The basement is by far the best place (probably the best place in the whole world according to my son). The children can pick up objects and look at them under huge microscopes. There are draws and draws of things to see and investigate. It's worth visiting this independently of the Natural History Museum and to take a packed lunch. We went early afternoon but I wished we had set off earlier so that it was less crowded. read more

Having spent the morning at the natural history museum we gave the group of kids we were with the option of more natural history or science science won! We spent a short time wandering round the space exhibit but ultimately made a beeline for the interactive section and let the kids loose. They had an absolute blast trying out the various innovations and I can honestly say I can't think of a better way of getting kids interested and enthusiastic about science we had quite a job dragging them away (Until we mentioned the gift shop!!). read more

Went here last week with my family and we all loved it. I have honestly not seen him that happy before! There is so much to see and we never saw it all and are going to come back soon. There is a hangar full of different aircraft (the jumpjet being my husbands favourite), A room dedicated to space and exploration, a hands on science room (my sons favourite), simulations and an imax cinema (you pay for), transport including stephensons rocket and much moreI cant believe its free! read more

Kids love the science museum as there are so many interactive exhibitions, buttons to press, screens to watch, etc. and this really engages them into learning something about science's role in the world we live in today. There is something to interest everyone from car, boat and planes, to renewable energy and weather. Free entry means it is definitely one to visit if you have a spare day. read more

This is another great attraction in London. The museum if very fun, entertaining and education for both adults and kids. It's perfectly located right near the tube station. It's also free which is great as other expenses in London can really damage the wallet. Another great thing is that The History Museum is round the corner which is also free and very fun! Beyond the magnificent exhibits, which should inspire even the most cynical of youthful minds, there are tons of interactive displays for kids to tangibly interact with concepts they would otherwise not grasp easily. If you have kids and are in London, you have to visit this museum. Save the basement for last; there is a wet play area for the kids and things can get pretty wet. There are tons of hands on activities for children and adults to learn and play. Its huge and there is no way you can see everything before the kids give up. The cafe is great too. read more

this is a great place for a day out. it seems to have the right balance between information about exhibits, and hands on areas. i would definately recommend the hands on area for the children, it has loads of interesting and wierd things for them to try. the moving dinosaurs are also good and children always seem very interested by them. read more
