I found myself up in Sioux Center for work yesterday and as a group we were going to the fruited…read moreplain. I had never heard of this location, but they assured me that I was going to enjoy it. From the outside, it just looks like an older brick storefront on their main street, but once inside, it has such a cute eclectic coffee shop vibe that is putting out really good food in addition to coffee. There were a number of different nooks to enjoy coffee and conversation in private, a fairly large dining area, and a separate room that I imagine could be used for a large group or just spill over for the lunch service. I opted for their Panini that had ham, brie, and apple with a cup of tomato bisque. My colleague got the curried chicken salad on croissant (both our sandwiches were the half size!) with a cup of potato and carrot soup. A couple of the people we were with got their flatbread pizzas, which also sounded and looked delicious. If you find yourself in town and are looking for a pick me up or a delicious lunch, definitely check it out!

I love that they have Dutch imports, including the chocolate letters and other treats around Christmas. They have black licorice year-round. They are known for almond patties, which are flaky, buttery pockets filled with almond paste. You can buy these frozen to bake at home or fresh. They also have delicious cinnamon rolls and very pretty frosted cookies and cakes. I have fond memories of this bakery and am glad to see it's thriving and now even ships its baked goods!

I will never do business with this Jimmy John's location in Sioux Center again. When I called to explain that my order was not correct the "manager" continued to talk over me and told me that I was wrong. Unfortunately a simple no problem we can run a new sandwich out to you would have been what most managers would do to keep their customers, however this manager decided to argue with me and repeatedly tell me I was wrong. I hope Jimmy Johns pays attention here because if you keep a manager in place like that, you will no longer have customers. Since the unholy union with Carls Jr (my very least favorite burger chain here in California) a few years back I haven't had many occasions to want to stop in when home for the holidays, with the exception of breakfast.
