I'm a 9/11 Rescue/Recovery Worker with multiple Respiratory Diseases. I took several cotton shirts in for laundering and was told 4 of them needed to be dry cleaned despite the care tags that said "Machine Wash". I said no dry cleaning. When I got home, I noticed the receipt for 3 of the shirts was marked DC for dry cleaning. I went back and explained to Julie that dry cleaning chemicals constrict my airways and make breathing difficult, and asked for them back. Julie offered to do a regular cleaning at the dry cleaning price, stating at different times it was 1) because the shirts were different 2) because he boss told her they had to be dry cleaned 3) because the computer wouldn't let her change it. I declined and asked for the shirts back, and was told I would have to come back in 2 days. When I pick up the cleaned shirts, It will be the last time I use them. read more

I really wanted to like this place but it was not to be. I went here a few times and on the positive, the prices were reasonable and work was very much acceptable. Recently they had raised their prices which is acceptable and I understand that the costs of doing business are going up. What I found less acceptable was what I consider to be unprofessional behavior towards a paying customer. I had inquired why there was an extra charge to remove a 2mm pen stain on a pant pocket. If I am charged to dry clean a garment, I assume that cleaning would be a part of it. It's in the name of the business. Julie felt that this was reason enough to lose her temper and yell the following at me: a) I was not a nice person b) I don't respect the work of others c) That I should go elsewhere I will be happy to go elsewhere, pay more, so that I don't have to be treated in this manner. read more

I relocated to Scotch Plains over a year ago, just recently i decided to move all of my services to the town or closer by my home. Last week I decided to switch from a Cleaners i've gone too for 20 years to SP cleaners. Went to Scotch Plains Cleaners and the attendant was kind, she examined all 20 of my pants as she counted and bagged them up. When I returned a week later I was told there was a huge stain on one pair my pants that I will no longer be able to replace because the store no longer exist. The attendant was trying to explain to me there was a stain however she could not speak or understand English so i was not able to understand her nor was she able to understand me. She finally called someone on the phone who claims my pants were not cleaned because they had a huge stain on them and they did not want too.....(i actually dont know what she was explaining) The next day the owner or same lady from the other day called me back to say they didn't clean the pants because they found a stain on them and stains cost more, i stated exactly you proved my point!!!!! If you noticed a stain at the time of drop off you would have charged me more and that is proof that the stain was not there. I was insisted that i did not bring my pants with that fresh dark blue stain and she was constantly stating the stain was there. A few back and forth communication and then she hung up the phone. This bad review is really not about the pants because things happen. The review is how they handled the situation by blatantly blaming the customer and being confrontation with a customer without even trying to offer a solution. Her only solution was to hang up the phone which is the worst Customer service I ever encountered!!!! Morale of story is STICK to who you know AND appreciate your business because this cleaners surely DO NOT. read more

My parents & l have gone to this cleaners for years. I recently had an issue with their service because they damaged an article of clothing that l placed in their care! I was practically in tears b/c l needed the garment for a wedding that same week that it was destroyed by them! The dye had run from the darker part of my dress to a lighter part of my dress damaging the color of the top half of the dress. They claimed they read the directions before cleaning! Obviously something was misunderstood b/c I've had that dress cleaned before with no problem. My point is if they were unsure of the outcome of the garment at anytime then someone should have reached out to me ie... the Owner! She did NO such thing! They have all their customes info in the system (name phone# & address) so that is unacceptable to me! When l asked her why wasn't l called before they did anything to ask me what l wanted to do instead of them making the decision for me? I should have been given the option to say yes or no to whatever! All she could say was (YOU ARE RIGHT). No one called me after it was damaged either it was just placed in a bag for pick up like nothing was wrong! It was almost like had l not noticed it they would have just allowed me to pay them for the damaged goods! Because l did not have a receipt for the cost of the dress l could only estimate on a price. I was told l would just have to buy another whole dress & bring her the receipt for a refund which l did. Now because she didnt want to pay what l spent she REFUSED to pay me the whole refund of the new dress l had to go purchase do to their negligence. I had to get what l could get that fit & looked appropriate for the event l was going to with little time to work with in a rush. To add insult to engery she had the audacity to tell me my prior dress wasn't worth what l had spent! Very rude & disrespectful to a customer! I thought it was VERY BAD business to do that to a long time customer or to any customer for that matter!!!! Very disappointed in them! It's sad to say if l had found something CHEAP or of what she felt like she wanted to pay me she would have had NO problem refunding me the cost then! Just very disgusted with the whole ordeal! In the so called business world l've always heard that the customer's are always right! As a good business owner she could have done whatever was necessary to keep that customer coming back! Unfortunately SHE didnt care about an X customer l was ONCE was! I will NO longer do business with them ever again. I will be taking my business elsewhere to a business that cares about their customer's feelings.! Shame on them!!!! read more

Suit and tie guy during the week ,except business casual Fridays . Like my casual wear dry cleaned especially shirts for weekends. Been with them for approx. 5yrs Never had an issue with there work . Very reasonable , saving's of at least 50% from Fanwood cleaners who I left after the second time they lost several shirts. Turned out to be a great find. read more

This place is a gold mine for people looking for a dry cleaner in the area! When I first moved to the neighborhood I went shopping for good prices at other dry cleaners and many of them were just as expensive as the ones in New York City. Most of my dry cleaning is men's shirts. Here's the deal: at this place men's shirts are always $1.00!!! Everywhere else nearby $2.50-3.00 per shirt. We had previously tried G.O. Keller's and got the run around and a snippy attitude, so were very happy to find Scotch Plains Cleaners. I am not sure how the prices are on other items because I rarely bring in other things. Once in awhile a suit or a comforter etc. I believe the shirt deal is also a 5 day turn around, but I just go in every Saturday for a drop off & pick up. I think it's family run and they are very friendly and always recognize me. Oh, and they are a little heavy on the starch so ask for light starch and the shirts will still be nice and crisp. read more

Disorganized and Untrustworthy! This place lost two of my suit pants after being dropped off for a cleaning. I was first told that they accidentally gave them to another customer and to give them a few WEEKS to find it. One month later I get a message from the store saying that my pants have been located. When I arrive there they told me they were in the store the whole time and that they had just been misplaced. THEN I was still charged the full amount for the cleaning. When I politely asked why I am being charged fully for something I should have had 4 weeks ago? I was told that "next time you will get a discount." Unfortunately, there will not be a next time. If you spend good money on your clothes and want them taken care of, use somewhere else. Many other cleaners right nearby. read more
