They can't keep a lot of their staff and faculty. There are many reasons for this, one being that the college is putting up a new building downtown, but people have worked there for years without getting a single raise. Because of their unethical (and sometimes illegal) employment practices, class sizes are expanding. Every year, dozens of adjuncts who have never taught before are hired to teach advanced courses. Some of these adjuncts receive little to no training. Although the school claims that all of their adjuncts go through an orientation, this is just a categorical falsehood. It's really sad because this community college serves a combined statistical area with a population of over 470,000. Most students will stay in the area, becoming part of the workforce. For many of these people, Scott Community College is the only option they have for higher education. This means that Scott Community College has a monopoly on failure in this community by providing unsatisfactory education and thus an unprepared workforce for almost half-a-million people.
