Dr Smith is great! I saw him for the first time for a surgery consultation. In mid march 2025. He had reviewed all of my medical history and medications before we met and we discussed those. He gave me an easy to understand explanation of treatment and recovery requirements. He answered all my questions. I will see him again before the surgery. He is very easy going and has good bedside manner during my appointment Dr Smith is very busy. The lead time for the appointment was 3 months and the surgery lead time will be 4 months. But everyone tells me (other drs and my pt person) that it is worth the wait. You'll need x-rays and Dr Smith will need to review your chart before you can make an appointment. I had a recent MRI but still needed the x-rays. read more

The first knee surgery went extremely well and returned to full strength faster than expected. He's also has a talent for putting your mind at ease when discussing your procedure. I selected Dr. Smith because of all the 5-star reviews he has. But my experience was far from a 5-star. I was referred to him in October and before he even saw me or knew my medical history he decided the pain in my hip and groin was due to my low back issues. I have dealt with my low back issues for well over 30 years and was certain that the pain in my hip was not referred pain from my low back. They ordered a lumbar and pelvic x-ray prior to my appointment with his PA. I met the PA in early November, told her I had been dealing with my low back issues for years and that I did not believe that the pain in my hip and groin were related to my low back issues. She thought that I may have a Labrum tear and recommended PT despite my insistence that I felt I needed a hip replacement. An MRI at this stage would have been appropriate since it could identify if there was any issue with my hip or in fact a tear. After weeks of PT with my hip only getting worse I asked for an MRI to clarify the issue. This was at the end of December. It took two weeks to get them to order the MRI which I had done within 3 days of the order. The MRI showed bone on bone and that I clearly needed a hip replacement. About five days after the results of the MRI came in they ordered another set of x-rays this time focusing on my hip. It's now around the middle of January and the PA said that Dr. Smith diagnosed that a hip replacement was appropriate. Well Duh! Great, set me up with a surgery date and a pre-op date with the doctor. PA told me they can't setup a surgery date until the pre-op appointment and that from there it will be a 3-4 month wait until surgery. The earliest they could set me up with a pre-op appointment was March 16th meaning that the earliest they could perform the hip replacement surgery would be late June or July. Keep in mind I went in for this issue in October. Crazy considering the delay in getting the MRI was due to them misdiagnosing my hip issue because they didn't listen to the patient. I went back to the surgeon who did my knee replacements and is someone I know to be an excellent surgeon but is a 3-4 hour drive from my home. After they reviewed my images they got my set up for surgery on March 12th with a pre-op appointment on February 24th. I will be back to playing tennis and hiking by June. Dr. Smith might be an excellent surgeon, but his PA and surgery scheduling team are one star at best. read more

Dr. Smith is someone we've both visited over the years. He works at a fairly furious pace. To me that's a clear indicator of his patient load. Seems like the supply has not been there across sutter and other healthcare systems to meet the ever growing demand. While it's a reality, it's certainly not a reason I'm going to place anything less than five stars for the physician, assistants or staff. In urgent circumstances there always seems to be the opportunity to not have to wait for an inordinate time for an appointment. The front office staff is always efficient and friendly. The assistants have always been a complete pleasure in both care and communication. We've never left the office with questions unanswered. In fact all to often they answer all potential questions in the course of care and treatment. Absolutely without hesitation Dr. Smith and staff are most highly recommended and appreciated. read more

Every step through the process was professional, clear, and of high quality. In our initial consultations, Scott was clear and disclosed literally everything, including very unlikely adverse outcomes. As promised, I was up and mobile with assistance within hours, and was released without restriction within 2-3 months. Zero infection or anything unexpected. Dr. Smith and his staff has been great!! I broke my fibula, and Sutter (Dr. Smith), expedited my post emergency room visit based on his review of my x-rays, which confirmed a break. He recommended hardware installation and surgery, which was scheduled for the following Monday. I was thoroughly informed on all elements of my surgery and post-surgical care. Surgery went smooth with no hang ups. Recovery is on track. He and his staff at Sutter have been very helpful and responsive. Great communication by phone and when using the online Sutter Health website. Non-weight bearing is a big deal, so it's nice to feel you're in good treatment hands when it comes to this! read more

Dr. Scott Smith replaced both of my hips and they both turned out amazingly well. They were replaced exactly one year apart. Feb 2018 and Feb 2019. I looked for a surgeon that was both super talented, successful and has a great personality. It took me three years of research when I finally found Scott. I thank God for him everyday.
