The library system has about 20 locations throughout the city, and this location in the Oakland neighborhood is the main location. According to the library's website, this library contains over 2.5 million items, including nonfiction books, fiction books, newspapers and magazines, government documents and patents, genealogical archives, maps, sheet music, vinyl records, music CDs, musical instruments, movie and TV DVDs, artwork, etcetera. This library's other resources include public computers, free Wi-fi, printers, photocopiers, scanners, fax machines, meeting rooms, resume and interview guidance, a RAD pass for free or discounted cultural events, etcetera. Since my previous review, I did obtain a library card. During a recent visit, a very friendly and helpful employee named Isaac helped me to log into two databases about grants and foundations. The computer room was large, had plenty of available desktop computers, and was quiet for me to do my research. I feel grateful that this Carnegie Library gives me free access to these databases. For my most recent visit, I attended a free day-long workshop about grant-writing. it was held in the lecture hall, which was a bit of a challenge for me to find, but an employee gave me directions. The workshop was very educational, and I greatly appreciated that it was free.

Built high on the hill, I am sure it witnessed a lot of Pittsburgh history. The kind staff allowed us to see the theater. It is very similar to Carnegie Library of Homestead. The lower level seats have been adopted and refurbished with nice padding. The Library is still raising funds to refurbish the seats on the 2nd floor. The fireplace on the main floor of the Library is enormous from floor to ceiling (at least 20 ft ceilings). The Civil War Nurses exhibit brought us to the library. Very enjoyable. We will be back to experience other events at the Library and theater. Ample parking during Library hours. Not sure enough parking onsite for theater events. Street parking available.

They have a lot of ebooks and online magazines that you have access to with your library card. They also have wireless Internet available, but you have to have a library card to access it. There are about 6-8 computers with internet that you can use and a printer. There aren't many tables to study (maybe around 6). When I studied I needed headphones to concentrate because other customers and workers can be a bit loud. My only wish is that they had a quiet room to study or read... and it would get another star. And I also wish their hours were better, but it's still quite nice for it to be close to where I live. I'll take more pictures when there are less people around!

The top floor has all the books that you'd expect to find in a library, whereas the bottom floor houses more activities and performance areas. The books on the top floor are all arranged by topic, so historical books are in one area, young adult in another, etc. Makes it really easy to find what you're looking for! There are plenty of study spaces and cozy corners to curl up with a book or laptop. I love how it's spaced out enough without making you feel too isolated from your fellow library visitors. Just be aware that there aren't a ton of outlets, but there are charging stations located throughout the facility, each with a variety of different chargers for phones and computers. Makes you feel pretty well taken care of! I absolutely loved visiting this library and I hope to come back again soon!

My favorite thing was the 3D painting machine - you need to pay to use it though. They sell some pre-made models though. They have monthly specials - for Feb they had displays of books celebrating the Black History Month. They lack an extensive collection of books in certain non-fiction genre. But, if you are looking for a place to borrow fiction novels and children's books, this is a good one.

They are extremely organized, friendly, and make connections with their frequent visitors. They sell Saris chocolate at the front for the same price as the grocery store, but proceeds benefit the library. They have a ton of resources available to the public for free or very low cost. They have passes (mostly family) for a lot of local museums and historical sites. The parking lot is massive and somewhat recently paved. The hours are friendly to most schedules and the drop box is always available for returns when they're closed.

Northland Public Library participates in inter-library loaning, but it has many of its own resources: books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, audio books, e-books, downloadable music files and videos, electronic periodicals, state databases, desktop computers, Wi-Fi, resume and job-search assistance, board games, video games, Virtual Reality headsets, American Girl dolls, yoga kits, radon detectors, reserved meeting rooms, a tutoring room, a Learning Garden, a store, etcetera. In December 2025, Northland Public Library completed a construction project that included a two-story building extension, accessible lower-level entrance, Commonplace Coffee cafe, teen space, mezzanine reading level, upper Conference Room, staircase, centralized service desk, and relocated Book Nook bookstore. For years my husband and I have been customers of this library. Most recently my husband frequently checked out DVDs, and we drank beverages in the Commonplace Coffee. We thought that the renovated area looked very nice and was a significant improvement. We really like this library and expect to use it more in the future.
