Since everybody knows about this place, it's hardly a secret so there's definitely combat fishing during the high season. If you get there early you can enjoy some serious fishing and it's a great place to relax and enjoy Alaska.

High Adventure Air was able to accommodate putting me on a fly out sockeye salmon charter within a day...it was such last minute on my part but I had to go and every other company was completely booked! I wouldn't even look for another company to go out with, this is your place to go. It's in Soldotna right on the water, they have planes flying in and out all day! My guide was Drew and he was awesome! Our pilot was Ben who did an awesome job navigating us to and from our fishing spot! There were four people in the group headed out on an awesome Beaver seaplane. The flight was about 30 minutes from the office which wasn't bad at all especially with the beautiful scenery along the way. When we arrived (with the smoothest landing ever) we hopped in a small boat and immediately Drew made sure we understood the rules and safety for the trip, along with our daily itinerary. He was able to answer all of our questions and share his knowledge about the land and fishing. His stories were really cool to hear! Once we anchored down at our fishing spot Drew was sure to brief us on how the reels worked, how to cast correctly, and how we could be successful at catching fish. Wouldn't you know within the first 5 minutes two of the guys on the boat caught fish. It took me a little longer than everyone else but Drew was patient and helped everyone else. We all hit our limit catching sockeye (red) salmon in less than an hour! Afterwards Drew drove us around and showed us different spots on the water and we even saw some bears! He took us to a cool waterfall spot to have our pictures taken with our fish too! Then he filleted our salmon and divided it up amongst us evenly and gave it to us in individual bags so it was easy to take home. He surprised us by bringing some cooking supplies and he cooked us some salmon right there! It was the freshest tasting salmon ever and it had a great homemade seasoning that he makes! Then he drove us around some more to show us another spot where we may see bears, but also where salmon jump up a creek bed to spawn. Unfortunately we didn't see any jumping up the creek but we did see them flopping out of the water in that area. The plane came back to pick us up right on time, and Ben (the pilot) took us on a surprise detour to see a glacier before flying back! This entire day was awesome and I would definitely recommend! The price is totally worth it and it's not even as expensive as other fly out companies. If I am ever back in Anchorage I will definitely come on this trip again! **tips** - Bring layers! The day started out with not a cloud in the sky and by the end of our charter it was pouring rain and about 45°. - Bring and wear bug spray/lotion! I promise you there are tons of mosquitos! - Pack some snacks/sandwiches or something to hold you over because it's a long day out there!

I find it difficult to contribute anything new to the accolades they've already received, and though tempted to do so, will not plagiarize the eloquently written words of those who precede me. All people/things have faults, and many people would lump service industry businesses in with businesses that tend to have more than their fair share. When it comes to Tower Rock Lodge, however, as hard as I've tried throughout my experience with them to find even one, I've not been successful...but will update this review if/when I am. Don't hold your breath. I'm a firm believer in the notion that "if something seems too good to be true, it probably is", and I'll avoid it like the plague. Tower Rock Lodge is one of the rare exceptions to this notion. It is truly good. So, not to waste any more of your valuable time, I'll cease to ramble and let you get on with booking them for your next Alaskan fishing adventure. Just be careful getting out of the car in your good clothes if it's been wet. Even if it hasn't been wet actually. Cusacks is very lively and regularly has complaints to the State Troopers for loud music after midnight. Everyone in the neighborhood is bothered by it. One never thought they'd be living outside the city limits by a honky tonk. But it's lively. That's for sure. There is also abundant wildlife including 8 large dogs who roam the neighborhood, poop on everyone's property and invade everyone's personal space including visits the front door. Imagine how that goes over by the resident dog. The Troopers have had many calls but so far the only suggestion is pepper spray. Outside the City Limits right. Imagine how awful that will smell at a wedding though. Anyway. I'm sure you can tell how well loved by the neighborhood these out of state entrepreneurs are. Yes. The web site spins some heart felt tale about sisters from Alaska, but the owner is one person from Out of state. But, they're making a buck so who cares right.

Beware the Catch-a-Lot Bear Viewing rip-off! My wife and I…read morewere duped by the false advertising inn their website and in conversation with the owner/captain. He suggested that we should be prepared to walk up to a mile to see the bears at the Clark reserve. What he neglected to tell us was that the walk would be from the boat to the shore through deep mud and muck in chest-high water as the boat anchored off shore. My wife trudged to shore with the group and encountered an unpleasant surprise: The guide was terrified of bears!!! While other tours arrived and approached a rather tame bear within 20 feet, our guide kept the group a quarter of a mile away from the bear, threatening them with being attacked if they approached any closer. My wife returned after 2-3 hours on shore (famished--not permitted to bring a snack along) and showed me a picture of the bear she had taken--It was a tiny brown dot on the shoreline! She confirmed that this was the closest they were allowed by the guide. He also spent a great deal of time in a panic trying to contact the boat via radio without reply--He had neglected to turn on the receiver. I was unable to accompany my wife on shore, though I was charged for the tour. Before we boarded the boat for the tour I told the owner/captain that my right foot is prosthetic, and he said that would not be an obstacle. I regularly walk and hike more than a mile, so I accepted his invitation to join the group. However, . I was unable to maintain my footing in the muck (not surprising) and was forced to stay on the boat, viewing a couple of bears through binoculars at a great distance. The website also suggested exciting wildlife viewing of many marine mammals during the trip--In fact, we sped full-speed to and from with no sign of marine mammals. Prior to the trip, during the collect-your-money phase, the owner/captain was frequently available via phone and email to answer all questions. After the trip, he refused to reply to any of several attempts to discuss compensation for the scam advertising. We learned later from folks who lodged at Clark reserve that the bears there are quite tame--the residents greet them by name, and one can approach without fear. We later saw, close, marvelous brown bears at Eagle River nature center, north of Anchorage, where they run wild, fish for salmon in the streams, and thereby reward a beautiful hike. The fee there is 5 dollars. NOTE: The owner/manager's replied to my previous review by claiming that we did not book and participate in the awful tour. We DID book and participate in the tour and have a payment receipt and booking confirmation to prove that. Shame on him for trying to cover up with a lie.
