Scrambled is an inner west institution. It's really as simple as that. Well and truly living up to its name, this cozy cafe on bustling Enmore Road delivers mouthwatering eggs - organic and free range no less - in an array of delicious combinations that demand repeat visits. I opted for poached eggs on toast with a side of avocado and was not disappointed - this place can poach a perfect egg. Alas I was less impressed with the coffee. My skim cap was both on the bitter and thin side, but I have it on good authority from regular Scramblers that the coffee usually passes muster. And if the service is a bit slow, who cares? These eggs are worth the wait.

The name says it all really. If you're in the mood for an egg-focused brekkie, come to Scrambled. Maybe you had a big night out at the Enmore the night before, like I did, in which case you'll be ordering coffee straight off the bat and replenishing your body with all the food it'll take. While the café itself is a little rough around the edges, that's half its charm. Pull up a chair that doesn't match the one your companion's butt is sitting on and soak up the buzzing atmosphere. It can get a little noisy for sore heads, but hey, it's nothing a good cup of coffee can't fix. In all honestly, the cafe could probably do with a bit of an upgrade (some clean, new menu print-outs and better cups maybe), but the unassuming exterior just makes the food that much more of a welcome surprise. This is simple, hearty food the locals love.

A rude awakening by a text message telling me I had to be in Marrickville in half an hour is no way to start the day. Unable to eat breakfast because of the time constraints, I drank some water and hopped onto my bike. Cycling like I mad, I made my way to the destination; we were doing some reconnaissance on a space we were using for a music video clip. I arrived late, hungry and without coffee in my blood stream. The space looked good, the floors were measured and the cat was strangely fascinated by the yellow measuring tape that we used. The decision to get breakfast before any further reconnaissance was a welcome one and one that I embraced whole heartedly. Although my call was to get a Pork Roll, I succumbed to the notion of frequenting a cafe in Enmore called Scrambled and I cycled back up the road to our breakfast destination. The waiter was new but friendly and after some back and forth regarding the nitty gritty of the menu, we ordered. I got a Salmon Stack and a Soy Cappuccino. They arrived and I tell you what, they looked amazing. Two pieces of toasted Turkish bread, generous heaps of Salmon and two poached eggs, all sitting on top of artistically laid out spanish onions and some kind of creamy dressing. The pain of being woken up and shipped out before I even had a chance to wipe the sleep from eyes had somehow turned into the ecstasy of biting into a salmon ladened piece of turkish bread with warm egg yolk dripping from its surface.

This is an Eastern European inspired/infused cafe. Meaning that the food here is great. If you don't know what Eastern European food is like, trust me, it is meaty goodness. Now, they also serve the stock standard breakfast and sandwiches, but don't shy away from the different - as that is the best thing about eating here. The Corn fritters here are great! But don't go past the huevos rancheros, seriously worth the try. The coffee here is good, not great, but good. But this is not the reason that you come - you come here for the food. Luckily we…read morecame at the dinner time so there wasn't a line out the store and down the street as warned by the locals and reviewers here. The gelato was creamy and light, so it delivered the flavor but not too heavy that sat in stomach. We ordered the award winning flavor - Mandorla Affogato (a twist of Affogato) which has bits of caramelized almond within the creamy vanilla background. I didn't get a strong espresso flavor as it would have, but the ratio of almond bits and gelato was just right - occasionally crunchiness hidden within the creaminess of gelato. The second flavor we ordered was the poached strawberry with balsamic vinegar. The acidity from balsamic vinegar and strawberry was muted yet complimented the gelato base. It was not too sweet, yet there's a hint of the balsamic vinegar and strawberry. We were too busy getting into the gelato before taking a picture, but check out this place if you are nearby. Here are some pictures of the store, which also offers coffee and cakes.

We got lucky because after we waited to order, there was a huge line behind us. They have a variety of ice cream flavors plus other items on their menu like cakes and teas. The staff was very patient with us as my sister wanted to order a milkshake which is different in the States compared to Australia. My sister wanted to make sure that what she expected in a milkshake would be understood and reciprocated to the staff. Even though they don't normally make a milkshake like the States do, they did their best. I enjoyed my ice cream and it was perfect to end the night.

There was very little left in the cabinet and we ended up with a Beef Brisket Pie to share. OHHH MYYY GOD! Possibly the best pie I have ever tasted, I cant say eaten because I literally got 2 bites - my husband pretty much devoured the whole thing within minutes. So happy to have stumbled across this little place and will be back for sure. **After reading other reviews of this place and it's sister properties, I feel it's important to note that I have been living in Sydney for less than a year and at the time of writing this, I had not heard of Bourke Street Bakery, nor did I know that other locations existed**

Look, if it's breadlike and you can bake it in an oven they do it best here. Their coffee is exceptionally good too. It's warm and welcoming, with tables and colouring materials for kids (it's popular with families). There are outdoor tables for smokers, or for sunny days. I was psyched when I came across a deal for Hakiki--reading the great reviews on Zomato made me even more excited to try Turkish ice cream. On my last full day in Sydney, I was visiting Newtown and just couldn't wait to come here. My friend also told me great things about this place while on our way here, so I was even more excited. It's obvious this place is pretty new but has been a hit and I can see why. There are lots of Mediterranean-inspired flavors, such as Baklava, Mediterranean Mint, Turkish Delight, and date ice cream, this place easily stands out if you're looking for a sweet treat in the area. I had a scoop of the Melon & Feta and Mango & Coconut and I really enjoyed both. Both were very fragrant, and though I never thought of melon ice cream and feta cheese as a combo, having cheese in my ice cream was definitely something new (and something I don't think I'd like again), but the Melon ice cream was very delicious and perfect for a summer day. I also really liked the Mango & Coconut, especially the coconut flakes. The texture of the ice cream was really something--thick, stretchy, gum-like that is like no other. Try it for yourself--you'll really like it! Plus, the owner was very nice and gave me no problems redeeming my voucher.
