1. On the first Tuesday of the month they close the lake and there is noooo parking. 2. I booked an appointment weeks in advance to use the idea lab. The volunteer who knows how to use things didn't come in that day. No one who works at the library knows how to use the equipment. Ine gentleman even complained about the equipment being there (like it was ruining his life). 3. I waited, as they mentioned the volunteer always comes in. Maybe he just couldn't find parking? 4. I waited almost an hour. No one ever came. 5. Good thing I had a book to read. (Get it, library...book...yehhhh). Plus for being clean amd smelling like books. Right now it is under remodelling construction so the normally fabulous Book Nook store is gone. There are a few carts in the library with their stock but nowhere near as much as you normally find in the store. I love this store and often visit on the way to pick up my son from school, or on the way to the lake to walk or jog. I love the staff- they are super friendly and fun. My only disappointment is that when books do not sell, they actually dump them in the recycling out back which I accidentally discovered when I went to recycle a can. I am a book lover and it made me so sad. I discovered the bin completely full of books. Eeek! Please bring the Book Nook back and don't throw away any more books! read more

The library is over all clean and staff is friendly. The location is nice right next to a pond. The kids area could use some new kids puzzles though and would be nice to offer music shakers and sensory toys to the kids at the library story time. The other library's in surrounding cities all have lakeshore good quality toys at story time and shakers etc for the babies but disappointed this library does not offer much for the littles. The big play cube is falling apart and missing a lot of parts. Some of the funding should go towards new stuff for the children in my opinion. Here for a speaking event (Toastmasters) we found the facility spacious and nice, with an adjacent outdoor area and nearby restrooms. Parking lot is a little small and some of us had to park down the street in the dirt lot directly parallel to the street. No fee - free to use facility. read more

Probably one of the best libraries in town. You can't beat the view. Surrounded by plush trees and a lake, you can easily grab a book or two and sit around and relax. There is a great children's area perfect for the young ones. There is a huge play area as well with lots of seating for families to sit around and enjoy. The staff are friendly and eager to help. At least, I thought so. Compared to the Mira Mesa Library, this one is larger and seems more calm. Parking is ample but very tight. Keep in mind, if you don't want your vehicle to be dented, I suggest parking at the very back of the lot. Lots of big SUVs and Minivans are scattered. If you are a bookworm and love buying secondhand books, this is a good spot for that too! If you can read my review, thank a teacher - as well as the librarian. read more

Been here a few times and while the outside is beautiful, I think the inside leaves something to be desired. The staff haven't been helpful the few times I've asked for helped or needed it. They seemed more interested (a man and a woman, both brown hair) in their conversation which they were having very loudly for all to hear. The library itself, at least to me, is kind of confusing with the layout. Numerous items that should have been there, weren't. Now I realize this could be due in part to people being lazy and just dumping items everywhere, or it could be due to them being disorganized. Parking can be a struggle if it's during more busy hours. I also consider this location more out of the way for me. One thing that did make me smile was their adult coloring book area. As an advocate for adult coloring I think this is a great idea to have this and more places should do this! Overall It's just an okay location, I much prefer Mira Mesa over this one. read more

This is the place. This is what I call an actual library compared to the Mira mesa library. The location is peaceful, calm, and everyone there is actually trying to do work. It's small, but they sure know how to maximize the space. It's very serene and tranquil. I came here and got a lot of reading done. Just that the internet is slightly slow, I couldn't even load some of my programs that I needed to work on, but that's not the point. The point is, this place is a escape for peace and quiet from the busy street of Mira Mesa. Make sure to check their times because it gets confusing and you don't want to end up waiting even thought they are located right next to a beautiful pond with ducks. You can get out of your car and actually enjoy some fresh air before going back inside to get work done. read more

This is another library that's dated, but it's still nice for its age. It's in a beautiful location across from Lake Miramar...great setting, very peaceful. I attend a yoga class here and the community room is quite large and has nice lighting and a good A/V system. The downside is the parking. Like Steven G says, deal with it. If you plan to attend a class in the afternoon, especially, be sure to allow extra time to park at the little overflow lot just up the street or more time to park in the business park down below and walk up the steps back to the library. read more

I haven't visited a library in 20 years. This place is spectacular! Nice, tranquil, views of nature, and smells exactly how I remember a library smelling. Could get busy so arrive earlier if you want the best seats. WiFi is unusably slow, but can't expect much from a free establishment. I just hotspot through my phone. 5 stars! read more

The library has parking issues...it has been that way since it opened. Land in the area is expensive and is privately owned surrounding the library. Deal with it. The library structure itself is lovely. It has a restful, quiet and well maintained courtyard that is perfect for reading on a nice day. The selection of reading materials, audio materials and periodicals is top notch. What I LOVE about the library is that many public libraries in urban areas become a hangout for homeless people, which can degrade the overall experience for the rest of the population. That is not the case at this branch. It is populated overall with people who love to read, enjoy some quietude and get on with the day. Grace's Book Nook and the branch itself frequently have very desirable books available for sale at extremely reasonable prices(.25 cents to $4.00). It makes maintaining a nicely curated home library easy and affordable. Staff attitude ranges just like anything else from the extremely helpful to the barely tolerant. It really matters what kind of experience you are looking for in a library. For me, this is one of the nicest public libraries that I have ever experienced. read more

Their parking can get full but they have signs with directions to additional parking at a nearby city dog park (lighted walkway with a minor hike. So wear comfortable shoes.). March 16th has been acknowledged as their official library day by the San Diego City. Large community room with projector and stage. I grew up going to run down box looking libraries. Recently, I've discovered a few newer libraries throughout town. Scripps Miramar Ranch Library is one of those discoveries! Located next to Miramar Lake, this library is a treasure find of libraries. With ample space, comfy chairs throughout, a large children's area, and an outdoor sitting area, I'm already a fan! Upon entering the library, I made note of the lake view which gives the place a welcoming ambience. Next, I had a few questions about my library card and the staff was helpful and went out of their way to answer my questions. I strolled through the library and noticed how new and clean the entire space looked. I also noticed activities for the kids planned throughout the week including daily tutoring sessions. Perhaps my favorite part is the outdoor courtyard... not sure I've ever seen this at a library before! This is definitely my new go to library and I'll be bringing my kids back for some activities very soon! read more

What a beautiful library! I have a one year old and she loved the whole thing. They had an awesome children's area too! They have a bunch of different activities for toddlers and up to play with. I loved the large open play area by the big windows for the kids. There is plenty of seating for parents to hang out as well. Our favorite part was the pond with the ducks. This Library holds an insanely valuable place in my heart. From a time in my life when I never worried about anything. My peak childhood years In scripps ranch just biking all around with friends and even in my own. On summer days when I was bored and plans with friends fell through I would always bike here and walk all around the grounds. I can still smell it;) I'll never forget the blast of AC that would hit you on your way in and the extremely friendly staff always there to say hello and answer any of my stupid questions. I'd spend a ton of time looking around at books but would always end up in the photography section and just a wonder. I'm only 20 but it's insane how the stories I here from adults of memories they have that never made sense to me are finally falling into place. This is probably as natural as a review can get. As I get older I step into a library knowing there's thousands of others but as a kid this was the only library in the world. I plan on visiting scripps soon and without a doubt will find myself sitting by the glass window not reading any words but looking at photos in a photography book. read more

Scripps Miramar library is a clean and spacious library. There's plenty of room to study with tables and chairs, and you really can station yourself the whole day there if you want to. The lighting can be quite dim even if you turn on the small lamp attached to some of the tables, but that's something you'll need to adjust to. Parking lot wasn't packed at the time we stopped by. We were there until closing studying and didn't run into any issues. They oftentimes hold events here, so that can impact the parking and your plans. I love this branch! Wee One loves books and this branch really caters to kids. It is very clean, peaceful, and well organized. Most of the staff is very helpful. I frequent this library because it's the closest branch to my house. If I don't feel like driving too far, this is where I go to study. Pros: - nice, large windows - a variety of tables/places to sit (four seater tables with lamps, sofas, chairs, individual study desks) - power outlets within reasonable vicinity from each table - water fountain - outdoor courtyard - free Wi-Fi Cons: - no outside food/drinks allowed besides water bottles/closed containers - closed on mondays // limited weekend hours // closes early (5-7) most days - sometimes they have activities in the kids corner/ hold zumba classes somewhere in the library (I've never checked out where). It can get noisy, but it's never to the point of distraction - Parking is hard to find when it's busy I find the best times to come here are early morning/Saturdays/Sundays. During the week, a lot of middle school/high schoolers drop in to do homework/ wait for their parents. They are usually pretty chatty. The three large tables in front of the windows are prime spots (at least for me!), but they get occupied quickly. Most patrons here are friendly though, so it never hurts to ask if you can share a table :] read more

I used to go here when I was younger and I finally went back after many years. I only used to go to the computers to watch videos or play a game but now I go to study. I now just realized how loud it is here and is pretty hard to study if you are not sitting in the back of the library or are in one of the study rooms. This one lady at the book counter is incredibly loud, like please, its a library. She needs to stop laughing so loud and chatting so loud with her co-workers. Please make sure when you are checking out books that they are in brand new condition!!! And if there is anything, and I mean anything that someone could call an imperfection... make sure it is noted and signed off on before you check out the book, or you will be charged a replacement book fee and processing fee that is substantial. Apparently this library has brand new book standards for all returning books. I spoke to the branch manager today, Trevor Jones at the Scripps Ranch Library and was told that a book I returned had a water mark???!!! I am being asked to pay $40.00 dollars. I did not damage this book and couldn't even remember the water mark because it was so minimal. After looking at the book again, I do now remember a slight s curve to the last third of the pages that is barely noticeable when I checked it out and read the book, from cover to cover. NO, it doesn't look brand new. The liquid must have been H20 because it was barely noticeable. I am very careful with my books. That book sat at my bedside and I didn't spill any water on it. Trevor Jones had me call the branch manager at a different library where the book lives. I called and spoke to Anne DeFazio. I explained to her that when I checked out the book it already had this small water mark. I explained that I was sure that I didn't make the water mark. She said she needs time to think about this???!!! and gave me no clue how long this thinking would take. I have been a customer in good standing at the Scripps Ranch library for 15years and have paid all my overdue fines. I asked Trevor Jones for his managers name and phone number as well as Anne DeFazio's. I called Trevor Jones manager Ramiro Gonzales three times and he never called me back. I did get hold of Sheila Burnett, Anne's manager and spoke to her. I asked repeatedly if I could meet with her in person to show her this book and tell her my story. I was not able to get a meeting with her, but, she was very sympathetic and the $40.00 library fee was lifted and she apologized for my poor library experience. In my opinion this whole event was due to poor overall management and a general disregard for the customer, as well as misguided maternalistic/paternalistic approach by both branch managers, in protecting their library books. There should be policy's or guidelines in place to manage a situation like the above. read more

All libraries are great but the Scripps Ranch library is particularly better than other ones in the surrounding area. The architecture is beautiful spanish design with a beautiful courtyard. plenty of books and reading area. The kids area is fun with steps where kids can sit. They offer free wifi internet as well. Outside there is a lake where you can feed the ducks. The only challenge is that the parking lot is very small, but I wont deduct any points for that. Miramar Lake is across the street from the library. read more

Very efficient process! CLEANLINESS- 4 STARS INVENTORY- 3 STARS OK amount of books, but you can order any book you would like online anyways. You may just have to wait on a waitlist. PARKING- 3 STARS Small lot. Usually parking unless there's some kind of event. OVERALL IMPRESSION It's an ok place to study in, but not too many large tables. Exactly what a long library. Having moved back here from New England, it is obvious San Diego mostly thinks libraries are a low priority. However, they get it with this location and the layout, which doesn't slam all the people who want to be there into one corner. It is divided up, with helps maintain peace and quiet. It is beautiful, good-sized, has lots of comfy chairs and big desks. And it is QUIET, something that has been sacrificed at many libraries. With big open windows, the daylight filling the facility is so much nicer than other harshly lit places. In this day and age, libraries should not only be a place you go, but a place you ARE. The only other library in San Diego I would say matches this one is Coronado. read more

This place is literally 1 minute from my house. I came here rushing to print something and everyone was so helpful! I was surprised with how kind all the workers were as I asked so many troubleshooting questions. Every time I was helped with a smile--really such great customer service that makes me want to come back again! Interior wise, this place is a huge contrast from the Geisel library I go to at UCSD, but I've got to say I love this more. Such a beautiful part of the Scripps Ranch community! This lovely library sits next to a duck pond and even sells duck food (the healthy stuff, not bread) so patrons can feed the fowl and turtles. The children's section of the library features wide windows and comfy seating as well as easy steps for the littlest ones to play on. There are plenty of free programs and classes, including music, storytime, and Zumba. A pretty courtyard accommodates those who like to sit outside. I love to spend time in this library and often check out Grace's Book Nook for a good deal on used books, CDs and movies. read more

Great place to study, fairly quiet. More foot traffic after 2 pm on weekdays since there is a school nearby. WiFi signal gets intermittently spotty near the large windows on the north side. The signal range probably does not extend too far beyond that location. Stronger signal would be closer to the service desk area. read more

When I moved to Mira Mesa I started using this library because it was close to my house. I've since moved to Poway, but I still like to frequent this location. Although the parking lot sucks, I find the atmosphere nice. There's just something about a library that relaxes me! Maybe it's the low lighting and peace and quiet. Am I right?!? The selection of books is fair, the workers are okay and the self check out rocks! I've also put books on hold to pick up here and that process is smooth and easy. I'd recommend you check out this library. There's also a cool, little lake near the parking lot where you can feed ducks. Cute. read more

This is probably the worst public library I've ever dealt with. The parking lot is a pain and other than one of the children's story time leaders, the staff is legitimately rude and unhelpful. There are A LOT of other library options in the area, I highly recommend avoiding this branch and it's awful staff. The programs are better through the county libraries anyway. All of that said, the pond and area behind it are really fun with kids, if you don't mind a lot of ducks and mud! read more

I was just there tonight for an internet marketing 101 seminar and loved not only the seminar which was very useful, but also the library itself! The overall atmosphere and look of the library is calming and the architecture really is unique for a library. A lot of high arches, and even a cute courtyard in the middle! They also have a used book boutique that I will be going back to visit. As an avid reader, I think the book worm in me just found its home :) read more

I actually like this library way better than the Mira Mesa library. Unlike the Mira Mesa branch, this one is way cleaner, and it doesn't have a weird smell when you walk in. One thing that really like is that it's WAY quieter. But then it could be cause I went on a Saturday afternoon? If you would like to sit outside and enjoy the sun while reading a book or something, the patio is nice and clean! Down sides are that there are very minimal tables with outlets, plenty of seating on couches though. Also, parking looks like it would be a pain in the butt. Parking is small and minimal. read more

This is one of the nicer branches of the SDPL. The staff is really nice, if not quick. But it is quiet and stuffed with books. The library itself is a bit on the small side, but the architecture is cute and you're right next to a little lake where you alwayy see moms with their kids tossing food to the ducks. read more
