Getting productive in a beautiful space with a front row seat to the ocean. This library has plenty of seating options (most of which are ocean facing) with most having outlets or being near an outlet. There's a nice patio out front if you need to eat a quick bite, take a call, or pop out for a killer picture of the sunset. The entire space is adorably nautical themed with a little children's nook. It stays pretty quiet overall too! Definitely on my list of all-time favorite libraries.

In the past, there were quite a few houseless folks. I didn't see any this time. It was pretty full for it being mid day. The event space has a lovely gallery that I enjoyed meandering through and taking it in. I experienced my first self-check out and return kiosk (Can you tell I haven't checked out a book since the early 2000s?). Very cool! They have plenty of seating and outlets. There were four different documentaries highlighting inspiring San Diegans. After showing each documentary, the inspiring San Diego in the documentaries came to the front and answered audience questions. The first was an 80-year-old man who still plays basketball regularly. The second, a woman, has muscular dystrophy and is on the board for the San Diego muscular dystrophy society. She remains active and has a very inspirational attitude in life. The third is a basketball player who is confined to a wheelchair but continues to successfully play on a local basketball team. The fourth and final documentary was about a local surfboard maker and his 50 years in the industry as well as being a surfer. These documentaries were both very informative and inspirational. Movie night at the library was a success and I hope in the future they continue to do more events like this. !

The Carlsbad city library is a very nice library and a great location right off of El Camino Real…read more Nestled in amongst a shopping and restaurant area, there is plenty of parking at the library and all around to support the nearby businesses. The Library makes it very easy to get a library card. You just have to answer some questions, and fill out a few lines on a form and then you have your card. The library has books, movies, magazines, to borrow and there are computers to use and other ways to enjoy media. There is also a puzzle exchange, bring in your old puzzles and take some that are there. There were some conference rooms, looks like they are for meetings or trainings. There was some sort of training room upstairs, looks like they teach people on various topics. The computers to look up books make it very easy to see if they are in stock, if they are reserved, etc. Take down the info where they are located and do a little scavenger hunt to find your item. If you get what you need, you head down to self checkout, scan your library card, put in a pin #, insert the book and the scanner does the rest. You get the book for 3 weeks and can renew that 2 more times if no one has reserved it. There is also a cafe there and I believe a place to watch movies or performances that they have there from time to time. And you can drop off your ballot there too. Pictures attached.

There's a section to pick up reserved books, purchase used books, a self check out, plenty of computer workstations, printers, and two 3D printers. There's also plenty of chairs, tables and counters with outlets for studying. The children's section is pretty extensive, which is nice. The library also has many activities for children and adults throughout the month on their calendar. The staff were friendly and helpful and the library overall was pretty clean and organized. Since the library itself is a little small, it's not the most quiet but I didn't see it as an issue. Overall a great library for all ages!

HOW DARE YOU! In…read moreMay, shortly after my mother passed away, I went into the PQ Library to notify them of my mom's death and return several books she had checked out. The staff member at the front desk immediately recognized my moms name (she frequently taught classes, checked out books and was an avid community member). The lady at the desk showed genuine compassion, gave me a hug, shared kind stories about her, and assured me that my mom's account would be updated and that any remaining or future book issues would be taken care of. I left feeling grateful during an incredibly difficult time. Fast forward six months later--my sister and I received a Past Due Notice for a book still under my deceased mother's account. I called the library to resolve it and spoke with Adrian. I explained that my mother had passed away and that this had already been handled in person. His response was simply, "That's unfortunate--we have an entirely new staff." No condolences. No empathy. After giving him my mom's information, he put me on hold and then transferred me to his manager, Ywen--without explaining anything to her. She answered the phone asking how she could help, forcing me to relive and explain my mother's death all over again. When I expressed how upsetting this was, I was told, "Unfortunately, you're going to have to." Again--no sympathy, no compassion. When I pointed out the complete lack of customer service and basic humanity, Ywen told me to call back when I could "gather myself" and then hung up on me. To make matters worse, I was told I would need my deceased mother's library card to resolve the issue. Losing a parent is devastating. Being forced to repeatedly explain it--and being treated with indifference and disrespect--was completely unacceptable. The contrast between the kindness shown in May and the behavior of the current staff is shocking. If you have a loved one who passes away, apparently, you'd better hang on to their library card--because compassion is no longer guaranteed here.

I love having a library so close to my house. Its been…read morerecently updated, plenty of space to sit down and read. Its modern, airy and bright. There are a few different meeting rooms for different activities, library hosts many events for kids and teens. I'm a frequent visitor there for baby, toddler story times and related actives. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Morgan is great program coordinator for kids, he is very engaging. If the library doesn't have the book you need you can request it from the online catalog and pick it up in a few days, their book collection is very extensive.
