I was having some issues with my mask and snorkel that I had purchased at another store so I came here to try on some masks. I was greeted as I walked in the door. The salesman was helping another customer so I decided to take a look at the masks on my own. Someone came over to help me and told me to try on the masks and pick out the ones that fit the best. I spent some time doing this and eventually the salesman came back over. He just basically picked one out from the 5 that I had selected without any explanation as to why I should get that mask over the others. The mask fit well so I didn't really complain about it. I also picked up a snorkel with a purge valve. As I was paying, I asked about their equipment rental. I needed to finish my open water dives and renting the equipment from here would be closer and much more affordable for me. He told me that the rental package was $65. To make a long story short, I'm completing my open water dives this weekend at Dutch Springs and called up Scuba New York to rent the equipment. I was rudely informed that they don't provide rentals to students that are not completing the open water dives through their facility even though I can provide proof that I am completing my open water dives with a certified professional. So you changed your story...don't be so rude about it! I called another dive shop and they had no problem with me renting their equipment. Needless to say, I will not be coming back here. read more

I took my basic diving course here. The instructor I had was great in teaching me the basics but it seems like they kept pushing for me to buy gear from them. As a new diver I wasn't ready to drop minimum $800 on new gear even with their discount. Everything could be found cheaper online. When I took a refresher course, a course I paid them to take, I got nothing but the staff down talking the gear I got from online and telling me how shitty it is because it wasn't theirs. If they weren't the only place in Westchester I would go elsewhere but I guess they know they have that advantage. I didn't even get to enjoy myself because the constant pushing to buy their gear even after I told them all of my gear was brand new and I wasn't going to spend close to a grand because they don't like my gear. read more

All my gear was lost in Sandy and I had a trip planned which i was going to cancel. I went to this store was was treated as a friend. The slaes staff understood what I was going thru and helped me find all the right gear that i needed so I could not only just go on my trip but had the right equipement for next dive season. Just moved up to Westchester from NJ (yeah about time). I needed to have my atomic regs services and found this shop on Yelp. Could not have been happier. Friendly helpful staff that know their stuff. The service was fast (regulators) back in a week. Quality products and a lot to choose from. When I go scuba diving in the Caribbean I always stop 2 weeks before my trip to check out the newest in gear and to get my own gear looked at for quality control. They have great customer service and always provide the newest in dive gear. I really like this place, Its located next to the office world furniture store and they have nice parking on site. read more

Scuba New York has the friendliest and most knowledgable staff in the area. I took my scuba certification classes here. My instructor Rob was amazing. Can't stay enough good things about Scuba New York. Rob and his team are amazing- always going above and beyond to make sure you are able to accomplish what you want. My brother and I were only in town for a short amount of time around the holidays and we needed our dry suit certification before going to Iceland for Christmas. Rob made all of the arrangements and everything couldn't have been easier on our end. Our instructor, joe, was fabulous- patient and knowledgeable. I went to Scuba New York for my open water and enriched air certifications. Also purchased a bit of gear from them. I found them to be very honest, knowledgeable and respectful. They spoke to me like a person and didn't sell stuff that I did not need. I highly recommend them for any PADI cert or any of your dive needs. read more

My wife went there on 01/29. She is an advanced open water diver. She was trying on a new mask and asked for permission to take a picture. The guy at the store, we believe that was Rob Weintraub, who also happens to be the owner, told her not to, as "people take pictures then go online and buy, while we are price competitive". Rob, Hello!, it's 2019, people take pictures all the time, for all kind of reasons, and denying them this ability is just f###g annoying. You remind me of an ice cream place owner I knew who would yell at you for asking to taste a flavor. Yes, these are annoying people called customers, they do all kind of irrational things, and you think you can judge them right away. You're wrong. THE ONLY WAY TO SELL THEM YOUR OVERPRICED STUFF IS TO BE NICE TO THEM. She never buys her gear online, but even if she did, you can't do anything about it. So, she got upset and left. She needs to update a lot of gear. Maybe hire some friendly help without this arrogant attitude. read more

These guys are GREAT. My wife and kids(14 &18) just got their certifacations here. The staff was fantastic with the basics(mask snorkle booties fins) with no hard push for a "better" boot.or snorkle. This is a " Gear Lust" sport and we never felt pressured to spend more because we could. the Instructors were great and made it a pleasurable experience for all. My wife is somewhat claustrophobic and the instructor took time to make her feel at ease. Since they took the class in the winter we went To the Florida Keys for the open water dives. They place they refered us to was great and let me do my refresher course with the family. I've been a customer with this shop for years and really couldn't say enough good things. I've had three daughters do their certifications through the shop, bought equipment, had equipment serviced, and have always found the recommendations fair and correct. Importantly, (1) they have their own pool -- which is a big plus when doing a certification course, (2) they have some of the brands that I care about that some others in this part of the world don't carry (such as Scubapro), (3) unlike other shops I have dealt with over the years, they will not just recommend the most expensive but what will work best for the diver. The two one star comments seem to be inexplicable given my experiences. Recommendation: go in and try it and see for yourself. read more

She most likely had no intention of purchasing one and tried to get away without buying one and still using it for her entire 3 day course. read more

So if you'd like to be swindled go to scuba new york. I actually got my cert at this store 20 years ago, was great back then but something must have changed. I am going on a trip with my gf and she wanted to get certified so that we can dive together when we are down there. So she signed up for the class, was told to bring mask/snorkel and fins, she has all of it. But the fins she has aren't "efficient" enough as told by one of the employees. She was also told that she wouldn't be able to take the class unless she had better fins. Last time i checked, there is no ocean current in an 8 foot pool. They made her buy $100 fins, $150 for the books and the price of the class. I will never recommend this dive shop to anymore of my peers. Do yourself a favor and go to a store that doesn't make you buy anything from their shop in order to take a class from them. read more

My son and his cousins are going on a great trip to the Galapagos where there are many snorkeling opportunities. The kids are relatively young, 8 and 9, but are strong swimmers and really want to snorkel. Brian gave them great classroom instruction and then customized some private lessons for the kids. My son was a bit hesitant at first but now he's an old pro. I would highly recommend this shop, great and friendly staff. read more
