You can get here using public transit or metered street parking is available on Borough Drive beside the library. I was here for that grand opening and took a tour of the facilities. This is my first trip back. It's a very nice modern facility with a view to the outside from pretty well anywhere inside. There is plenty of seating based on what you want to do while you're here. If you need to plug in your electrical device (e.g. cellphone, tablet), power outlets are available. Free WiFi access is available at all library branches. Enjoy this public space but be respectful of others too!

Richmond Hill Central Library is quite nice…read more.. I love the open and green area in front of the library. The little coffee shop inside the main floor that allows you to buy a drink and sip while relaxing is a great idea. The whole third floor is a quiet zone... big signs telling you what you allow to do or not allow to do. I love those arm chairs facing the big windows... comfy and have a great view! But why 2 star?!! You have to have a library card in order to use their WIFI!! So if you are not a resident of Richmond Hill... you are out of luck!! BOO!!!!!!!!

Growing up in "the Hill" this library (and it's original location) were my local spots for picture…read morebooks, read alongs, summer camps, tobogganing and young adult books (big ups to R.L Stein and Christopher Pike)! Later in life, my high school exam periods were spent here on weekends when not working, studying for tests and getting work done when home seemed too busy to get anything done. Later still in University, I continued to seek solace here from the world outside when I came home from Waterloo on weekends and needed to get things done. It was always a positive study experience. Provided you arrived early enough (aka at opening) and managed to out run the teems of people racing you for a prime seat by a window). I always thought it funny to watch people run like they're about to miss out on a big sale or their bus, up stairs, pushing one another over just for a seat. These days the library is packed with student, you cannot get a seat anytime of day and folks spend a lot of time flirting and talking on their phone in the stacks whilst occupying limited study/work retail. Blah! Not to mention the Wifi is spotty and restricted (no streaming or video watching... not even Youtube) and the cafe on the main floor (which has been there since day 1 of this location) is over-priced and low quality at the best of times. I can't totally slam the place, it's still one of the largest public libraries in the GTA and a central focal point in Richmond Hill as you drive North on Yonge approaching Major Mackenzie. I'll be back again I'm sure, for now it's coffee shops for my working needs!

Everything is so new here... so spacious... with 12 feet high ceilings, large floor to ceiling windows... it is really good place to chill or even take a nap at one of their individual comfy armchair... Of course free WIFI access... good reliable and high speed and you never even get logged out ... and numerous outlets... And you can bring in a coffee/water/pop or whatever and you don't need to buy anything... and no one will give you mean looks even if you park yourself here for hours.. (uploading photos to yelp or writing reviews) Yes I am writing my 800th yelp reviews right now! Oh almost forget they do have good selections of books and DVD... I have not buy a copy of books for years.. I either put a hold and reserve them online for later pick up or I will just grab some good interesting read off the shelves... Not only I saved money and so much more environmentally friendly too.. Of course during school year, there will be a lot of high school students hanging out studying in groups... that do bring back memories......

I was at Thornhill Community Centre for Happy Cute Mart a few Saturdays ago. When I was first there…read morein June 2024, I eyed visiting this library at this community centre. Sadly, I did so much damage at Happy Cute Mart that going in with bags of plushies and purchases wasn't in the cards. Don't get me wrong. I did do damage earlier this month at Happy Cute Mart, but I had a single bag full of purchases this time. It was easier for me to haul it into the library. This part still feels a bit embarrassing to me. I had a Markham library card in the 2000's. I stopped going to Markham libraries for some inexplicable reason. When I changed jobs in 2010, I ended up getting a Mississauga library card because I worked in this city and I could get one for free. I've been going to Mississauga libraries a lot more and neglecting my homebase ones. Well, I fixed that issue. I walked into this library and headed to customer service to get a new Markham library card. The woman who helped me was great. She first did a search with my phone number to see whether I was in the system. I didn't think that I would be. She confirmed that fact. Presenting my driver's licence was enough to get a free Markham library card. You need to be living or working in Markham (Thornhill is a part of Markham for a library card) to get a library card for free. My driver's licence had my current home address. All was well. On a piece of paper, she asked me to enter my e-mail address and phone number. She then entered everything into the system and activated my library card. I thanked her. I then went browsing around this library. My first impression of it? It's huge. There are three floors. The main floor has a lot going on. Cookbooks and audiobooks caught my attention. This library has extensive movie sections. Yes, plural. You can rent DVDs and Blu-ray disc movies. There was a bin full of items for sale. Although it was labelled a book sale, it had records, audiobooks, and more. The main floor also has a computer lab. If you don't have a laptop with you, you can use any desktop computer in this room. There were study rooms on all three floors. They were getting a lot of use when I was there on a Saturday afternoon. The top floor has teen books. The lower level has kids books. For adults, you're on the main floor. It's where I was for the majority of my self-tour. You can check out your books and more at one of the kiosks. It's like going to the grocery store kiosk, except that you scan your library card, and then your books or other materials that you are about to borrow. I loved dropping by this library. I spent roughly thirty minutes doing a self-tour and looking at books, DVDs, and more. I'm so glad that I have a Markham library card again. I look forward to returning and borrowing items soon. A facelift! A makeover!…read more New shelves, New layout... and Tons of Tons of Comfy Armchairs! (Maybe they read my review?) Those huge windows makes some of the sitting area feels like a Sun room! Staffs are so friendly and ask if I need any help.. as apparently they relocated some of the collections to different area of the library.. There are so many different quiet spots with cozy seating! I can stay here for a few hours and just chill!

Chic... I feel like I just stepped into the Ritz version of a library…read more High Ceiling.. Grand Staircase..Armchairs...Sofa...Cozy Fireplace....Large windows.... Whitby Public Library has all the bell and the whistles and anything that I want in my dream library... I think I can even organize my "dream" wedding here! The only problem is the limited number of parking spots. Only around 15 or so for a large library this size (it has more computer terminals than parking lots!!) Of course there are some reasonable municipal parking lots right next to the library at 50 cents a hour and free on evenings, weekends and holidays.

So I opened up yelp and came across this one not to far from school. The building looks very pretty. And the inside is nice and quiet. Very organized and clean. There are two levels one has a few computers in the far corners and the second level has some tables and couches to do some work. Asides from having books on both floors. It also has a cafe in the building, which was neat. I haven't seen a library with a cafe before. I had chosen the couch spot to do some work and sit by the fireplace since it was cold outside. It was quiet and I was able to finish a lot of work while I was there. I would definitely recommend this library to groups as well, since they have rooms you can book to do group assignments. The only thing I would say sucks is the parking, I wasn't able to find parking near the library so I had to park at a P lot, which wasn't too expensive. $1 for 1 hour.

The school is their primary client as they are literally connected with an attached school corridor. As such, as noted in other reviews, it's continually full of students. They created signage directed at them because of the rowdiness that can sometimes occur. Also, there are often parents with younger siblings waiting to pick up the secondary school children, so of you are aiming for a quiet, comforting place to relax and read, you might want to come when the school is closed. Also, the majority of seating is designed to use your own computer at a shared desk area with classroom type chairs. The few comfy chairs tend to be taken up quickly. It's pretty small, but there's good light from the large windows. There's public restrooms, but there's no water from a fountain. You'll have to pay an inflated price for the bottled water etc. from their vending machines. An earlier review said wifi is only available to patrons with a library card, but that is no longer the case. You can connect quickly and easily without one. I'd much prefer to use a larger library that caters to the public, or at least my little local library. With no fountains or enough comfy chairs, I can't last very long here.

Parking: More parking than you could possibly need Decor: Vaulted ceilings lits of light. Its one giant room with a smaller room on the side. Has books and tables, computers, you know the typical library things Events: They have a lot of activities. They are for kids and adults. There are lots of pa day stuff and holiday activities. There's a crafting one for adults that's I've attended. Pintrested. A number of planting ones but some knitting, etc. I like it here and will be back

Port Union Library is located inside the Community Centre…read more.. One of the smaller libraries I been to in Scarborough area.. The interior though has this cheerful orange theme. Have only 2 computers that has Full Access.. you might be disappointed if you want to chill and use the computer. The book collections is small but recent... Great place to just bring your laptop and do some work or just read some magazines!

Located close to the corned of Lawrence East and Port Union the library offers a sanctuary from the endless suburban sprawl of East Scarborough. The well stocked book shelves team with everything from dvds to non-fiction books about coffee harvests. The librarians are often friendly and approachable, willing to help with whatever your latest query is. The Port union library really is the heart of this community, an oasis of calm in all that surrounds, and I have been going here whenever possible since I was very young.
