This is a medium sized park, spanning 5 acres. It is home to a retention pond with a nice paved…read moretrail around it. I cannot confirm or deny if the pond is stocked, but the city does allow it to be fished. You will also find a playground area with a medium sized jungle gym that has a bunch of slides, monkey bars, and a bridge. There is also monkey bars, a sand digger, a balance pole, a traditional and toddler swing. The area is lined with wood chips and can get rather muddy when wet. Under some shade trees you will find a couple of picnic tables and grills. There is free street parking on one side of the park and a private lot on the other. The park is located off of a main road, in between a couple of neighborhoods. The good news for caregivers is though that the playground area is fenced in. It is a well-maintained park and appeared to be a well-kept secret too. There was not anyone else there during my visit. The most popular part of the park by far, is its dog park. It is a membership park that is divided into two separate off-leash sections. This is a nice, low key park that I found enjoyable. It is not a destination park, but still has a lot to offer visitors.

That's exactly what the Barking Lot is, it's a simple little dog park. The beauty of it is that it is downtown where virtually no one has any backyard space, so having somewhere to take your dog to run around is nice. This is especially true when it's 20 degrees out and you want to put your energy towards staying warm and drinking hot cocoa versus walking your dog. That's exactly what happened to me - it was freezing and I took my foster puppy here to do her business and was so thankful that I was able to just let her run around while I mentally channeled a warm sunny place. It hit me then how lucky downtowners are to have a little dog park. Like I said it doesn't have a bunch of features, but it's decent sized and well fenced. I have only been here in the winter so there isn't a lot of grass, but the ground always seems well taken care of and leveled after rain causes puddles and holes. It also is always stocked with poop scoop bags and has a nearby trash can. Usually no one is here (perhaps busier in the spring?), but the few people and dogs I've encountered here have been exceptionally nice. There are also two benches for people to sit while their dogs run around and it is well-lit at night!

It is incredibly spacious and is all grass turf, which is great but as someone noted before does get muddy. There is parking nearby, a poop bag post, dog toys, a hose, small tub, and seats. It's in a nice part of downtown Jackson, right by Lift and some other shops. Also a random, but somewhat relevant, thing to note is that this is a dog park, not a playground. If you bring kids, they may get bored. But this park isn't technically for them anyway. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because it was very muddy when we visited. I also hope they set up some obstacle courses or something to give pups some exercise and mental stimulation.

This makes it a great place for hiking, biking, fishing, outdoor workouts, etc. It also weaves through and across a frisbee golf (or disc golf if you prefer) course. It's a great walk along Mud Creek, and a peaceful stroll through the woods, which you can easily get a couple miles out of. And if you connect your walk to Veterans Park, you can stretch that to about seven (7) miles.

Walk along for a few miles and watch nature work steadily to reclaim what was once ripped from her mossy womb. The trail follows a creek that Elvis reportedly swam in during his youth/hence the name? It's mucky and could use a good topping off by the rain these days, wouldn't recommend swimming in it now :) One nice thing/there's two dog parks side by side that follows the trail for a bit-one is bigger and goes back aways with tall shady trees, the other one is just fenced in grass.
