I was skeptical of going on a boat tour but this was an awesome outing. Dan, our guide, was so knowledgeable and entertaining. Prior to the architectural tour itself, our group was taken on a 10 minute speed boat cruise zipping around the area, which was an absolute blast. Tip #1: If you don't like to get a little splash of water on you, don't sit near the side of the boat. The tour itself takes you through downtown Chicago on the river so you will see buildings all around the boat. There isn't a bad seat to be had. I normally get a bit sea sick but I was completely OK for this entire cruise. Tip #2: Take this tour near the beginning of your Chicago trip so that you have some background info on the buildings that you'll be encountering during your stay. read more

What a fun adventure!!! This was one of best tours to start our trip! We were both out of town and we attracted to the speedboat aspect alongside the river cruise architectural tour. Cale, our tour guide, made the tour fun and energetic. When we went around Lake Michigan for the speed boat tour, we listened great music. For the architectural tour, Cale and Captain were beyond informed with the history and architecture of Chicago. Dress warmly but in layers for when the boat slows for the river tour. For fathers day my dad wanted to do a boat ride. I gave him a variety of options and we decided on the SeaDog 75 minute architechtural boat tour. We had a wonderful time and it was a different route down the Chicago River than what I had been on with other boat cruises previously. The cost was under $30 per person which is a good deal considering the length of the cruise. We especially enjoyed the aproximately 10 minute speedboat ride at the end which was so fun. He was really funny and probably one of the best tour guides I've had the pleasure to hear. After the architectural tour, you get a bit of the speedboat experience. The previous tours got wet. So fun, took 100 Middle school kiddos, teacher, and parents. The tour guide was Kegan (don't know if the spelling is correct) captain was John. Architectural tour first of the river and the building styles, then thru the locks, on to the lake. Most of the tour was slow, in terms of the speed of the boat, so you could see and hear it all, but after that, when you get to the lake, they break out and go fast. Super fun, you will get wet. Everyone very nice. Make sure you tip the crew, that's where they make their money and it's worth it. Enjoy! read more

We went on the haunted river cruise and it was great! The stories were interesting and freaky enough to want to hear about, but not too scary for kids. The skyline was beautiful with it being dark out and the buildings still being lit up. It was a tad over an hour which seemed to be enough time but not too much that you were bored. Although there were many tourist, I would recommend the cruise to even Chicagoans, I learned a lot that I didn't know about the city which was awesome! read more

I paid $100 with tax for my husband and I to ride on the 75 minute architectural tour with the fun speedy ride at the end. I went on the Sea Dog on Tuesday, August 6th, 2019 at 5:00 p.m., which was perfect because only the first 20 minutes were really sunny, and then we got to watch the sun slowly set as the tour continued and it was not very crowded that day. The tour Included an informed and interesting hour long tour through the Chicago River and 15 minute speedy ride across Lake Michigan at the end. I would do this tour again, Lucias the tour guide was passionate, well-educated, and intriguing. Lucias knew exactly what things were culturally relevant and historically important and mixed them together to create an interesting mix of cultural information, celebrity facts, movie data, historical relevance, and the importance of the city in world history. The Captain was great also, a thank you to him. I am also happy to report the Chicago River is no longer the worst level of toxic it has been upgraded and the new Chicago River-walk is attractive (seen and learned on the tour). Overall the Sea Dog tour was entertaining, informative, and alluring, I recommend it to tourists and Chicagoans alike, everyone should know about the city they live in, near, are visiting, or live off of. Had a very good time on the sea dog seed boat! I had a girlfriend from New York come visit me for the week and we spent an afternoon down at navy pier. When we were walking by the boats we met an asain gentleman by the name of Ken who worked for the seadog. He was very pleasant and told us all about the seadog ride. After speaking with him we decided to go onto the seadog extreme and by coincidence he happened to be running the boat and definitely made it a fun and exciting ride! read more

The tour guide is funny and has a lot of knowledge about the amazing architecture that Chicago has to offer. Long on comedy, short on actual architectural info. My friend was in town and we took the 8pm night architecture tour. The boat was great and the hospitality was fine.... but Mike, the guide, was as interested in entertaining as he was informing. So much so, that every tidbit of info was followed up with a joke. Don't get me wrong, he was entertaining, but this tour was 50% info, 50% comedy routine. That means that half the time he's NOT talking about the city's amazing history or unique stories of the buildings. Net net, it was a fun time. But the Chicago Architecture Foundation is more informational and therefore more interesting (and overall entertaining). read more

Our guide was Victor who has been born and raised in Chicago and is very knowledgeable of both architecture and the history of each building. FANTASTIC JOB VICTOR!! We only did a 30 min cruise with 2 little kids and the crew and guide were excellent. The water was rough and when my little ones got wet the first mate came down and offered his coat to shield and warm them. The guide Fabiola is totally suited for the job and made the cruise fun. read more

We were exploring Chicago for 4th of July weekend. My friend scheduled our tour and I'm glad he did because I was really interested. We boarded the boat after a minimal wait. I anticipated the boat ride to be pretty slow and calm. One caution - there is a "speedy" part in the beginning where they play music and take you out into the lake a bit to see the skyline. I liked the perspective - but it was a bit windy for my liking. After that you head into the locks and down the Chicago river. Our tour guide Jake made the trip! When I first saw him I was not expecting him to have as much detailed knowledge about architecture styles and facts about Chicago. He was a wealth of knowledge and really enhanced the experience. I would highly recommend taking an architectural boat tour with SeaDog and Jake. read more

We completed the lakefront tour. It was a little over a half hour. Fun times, great pictures and a friendly staff. Sit in the front part of the boat; it is a little higher so you won't get wet. Took the tour on July 5. It was fantastic. Tiela is awesome!! She managed to be super informative while keeping things light and funny. It's not easy to do. She is really great at her job, and you can tell she loves it. We learned a ton about Chicago and had a great time. I'm from Chicago, and I've taken several different architectural boat tours, and this is top notch. You won't regret it. Oh, and this one has a tour of the lake set to music, which is great. Did the architectural tour with Diesel Dave!!!! Entertaining and informational.... It was a great day to spend an hour and a half cruising down the Chicago River and seeing the sites.. Dave had so much information. We also were able to go through the lock from Lake Michigan to the Chicago River. At the end of the tour, we took a speed boat ride out in the lake...
