If you're a tenant, avoid at all costs. If you're a home owner and don't mind your tenants being mistreated- this is the management company for you. We were loyal tenants for almost 4 years, reported mold and got blamed for the mold and evicted. We tried desperately to make things work. Sent many emails pleading our case and ultimately had to leave. They then tried to take away our deposit based off of accusations that were not related to us and without proof or warranted. Ultimately, they had to give us our deposit after all, because we took legal action and they admitted they had no evidence or right to charge us. What a nightmare. read more

5/16/23 - no portion of my $1925 deposit yet returned even though damages accumulated over $900 and we moved out on 3/31/23. BEWARE! My boyfriend and I had issues with Seaport Properties and the landlord since we moved in in 2021. Since our apartment, 906 Prince St. Apt 102, was old and had tons of chipped and peeling paint, we decided to purchase a full lead report that cost $400. Our first month in the apartment was spent going back and forth with Cheryl herself and us living out of boxes where we then stayed in a hotel for 1 week for the entire apartment to be painted. The final straw that broke the camels back for us was a year later, September 26, 2022, when there was water damage in our apartment from intensive work being done in the apartments above ours. Since Cheryl knew about our apartment having lead in it from 2021 - she oddly hired a standard painting contractor who was not lead certified to make the repairs. Oddly enough, she hired a lead inspector to test the damaged walls for lead afterwards. When we asked for a copy of this report for the sake of identifying any discrepancies between the two, Cheryl told us that she had mixed our reports up with other apartments in the building. Towards the beginning of November a certified lead contractor was finally at our apartment to make repairs. Our landlord did not want to pay for a hotel stay despite the nature of the repairs so we stayed. A few hours into the workers prepping the entire apartment, the workers received a call that the work needed to be canceled because the landlord, Mendleson Properties, did not want to pay. So they had no choice but to trash their supplies and leave, leaving us once again back at zero. In VA, it's considered unreasonable for a landlord to make you wait 30 days for repairs and at this point, we were over 40. During the meeting with the 2nd contractor on Nov 15, Tech Painting asked Cheryl how soon to start the repairs and she literally told him that the repairs were NOT urgent. We had everything recorded! So not only were we waiting an unreasonably long time for repairs to be made, but Cheryl herself - the property manager and a BROKER at that - didn't care. By the end of November, Tech Painting came to work on the apartment but they did not seal off the apartment like the previous contractor had done even after we signed a lead addendum stating that they would. Since we were in the apartment at the time, we assumed this prep work would be done. NOPE. The work had already begun with doors left open, doors weren't even sealed, floors were not covered, the room we were staying in was not sealed off either. All of this completely defeated the purpose of our concerns to have the work done safely by certified lead professionals. We refused to let the workers continue the work since they clearly were not professionals. Additionally, we filed a tenants assertion against the landlord: Lucas & Petrov vs. Mendelson Properties. We had witnesses and testimonies and my lawyer was wonderful with handling the case that dragged on for 4 months but it was evident that there was a connection between Seaport's lawyer and the judge, Hon. Donald M. Haddock, Jr. Not only did the judge openly belittle our concerns, he even questioned us as to why we bothered hiring a lawyer - telling us we could have gone on vacation instead! Mendleson properties obviously has a history with taking their tenants to court and each time they "win." After all of this though, I now believe it's because they have their connections with judges. After all, Mendleson Properties office is literally next to the court house and seaport's office is down the street from them. Renting from Seaport Properties & Mendleson Properties is like shooting yourself in the foot. You're practically sacrificing your rights as a tenant and should you try to hold them accountable in court, they have connections to win either way so avoid them like the plague. It doesn't matter to me what the judge decided that day because God judges first and I believe in a thing called karma. read more

Review EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL! If you take one review into consideration- PLEASE let it be this one. We found what appeared to be a very nice rental online, listed by Seaport Properties, marked available on 8/1. We were worried as we were told the tenants would be leaving 7/29 and during the walkthrough to check it out, it looked very unclean. Seaport assured us the tenants would leave it in good condition and it would be cleaned and ready to move in. Upon moving in, we found that the place was filthy, neglected and it was clear the pictures posted online for this house were probably 5+ years old. This was not realized during the walkthrough as the boxes and clutter from the tenants moving out were in the way. After submitting maintenance requests for all issues(see issues below) and all pictures twice as requested, we tried to get in touch with them about having these addressed as some issues require immediate action. We got pushed off for weeks and when we finally received a call from the owner of Seaport, she was furious for even having to talk to us, saying we're "nitpicking everything submitting maintenance request after maintenance request" and she's "going to go bonkers" if she has to keep dealing with this. We were also told they own/manage 300+ properties and our issues will get handled when they can. This is what $3000 a month will get you with this company. The issues: The baseboards once painted white, were black, as were parts of the walls from dust, and all HVAC vents. This is a health hazard. The once beige carpet was now a grey color all down the stairs and in a large path from the stairs. The AC doesn't work in half of the vents upstairs due to ducts not being connected, so upstairs stays 79+ degrees. A few days after moving in, a moldy smell started to emanate from the basement carpet which we found to be wet rotten subflooring. The roof is also actively dripping water into the ceiling and attic during storms/rain. If you would your rent to go towards living in a nice, safe place, please look elsewhere! read more

It's been four years and I still have nightmares about those roaches. That was by far the worst renting experience I have ever had. I never even mentioned how Seaport Properties had lied to my face about bugs in the building "never being an issue" before I signed a lease. When I moved out, they took part of my security deposit for broken blinds that were broken when I moved in, and for not cleaning my oven, though it was never clean to begin with when I moved in. The oven had debris in it from the entire ceiling collapse in the kitchen, which could have killed me or my pets. Thank god we weren't hurt. Another time, they were painting the apartment doors and told me it would be happening on a different day of the week. I wasn't prepared and hadn't secured my cats in the bedroom, so I rushed home from work to make sure they hadn't run out the door. Seaport took over the management of my condo about 2 years ago when the previous property manager retired. I don't need a lot of maintenance, but when I do, I find their process for reporting needs and their response very efficient. They are always friendly when I call. But the real reason I am giving them 5 stars is that they helped me negotiate a discount on my lease extension, which went up $140 per month. It seemed outrageous to me, even though I have been keeping up with the news about property values and the scarcity of rentals. I have been in the same condo for 12 years and, to be fair, the owner/landlord had not raised the rent very much until the last couple few years. He used to manage the condo himself, so I know him and have had conversations with him in the past - he's a good guy. He used to only raise the rent $6-$7 per year based on the HOA fee increase. So when I got the notice that my rent was going up $140 per year, I thought: ok, this is really kind of crazy. So I just called Seaport to talk to them about it - not with the idea that anything would change, or that I wouldn't sign the lease extension - I even started by saying this - but that I just wanted to understand the reason for the size of the increase. The leasing associate I spoke with talked to me at length about it and shared that she had talked with the owner at length. I started to understand the owner's thinking about the increase as she explained it to me... but also shared my own concerns. I am truly a model tenant - paying my rent early, maintaining the condo carefully, calling the condo maintenance office when something is wrong with the building or the grounds (why does no one else do this??), making sure a tree was planted to replace the one they took down (somehow my tree got missed when they were replanting, and that was corrected when I brought it to their attention), replacing things myself that came with the condo, like miniblinds, I had a screen made for the balcony door, and I installed expensive day/night room darkening blinds, etc. The Seaport associate agreed to come by and view my condo, and when she did (she did take pictures to share with the owner), she was amazed at the excellent condition of the condo after 12 years. I felt the owner had forgotten what he knew about me - that I was a great tenant! The associate said that it is always a negotiation when a tenant is unhappy with a rent increase (which I was amazed to hear!), and she became my advocate. I submitted a counteroffer at her suggestion, writing up my argument (one thing is that the condo has never been renovated and the owner was comparing prices to other units in the complex, all of which HAVE been renovated), which the advocate sent to the owner. He did accept my counteroffer, which was $50 less per month. That seemed reasonable to me - I'm not wild about a $90 increase, but Seaport did share that they were increasing 5% annually now because of the increasing maintenance costs. Like everything, it is going up. However, I found the associate extremely helpful and reasonable, and I appreciated the way she really engaged with me in my concerns - and then served as my advocate! Our interactions around this were not at all contentious. I was upset, and the associate spoke to me without getting angry or treating me like I was unreasonable. It is not lost on me that Seaport is a woman-run company... and everyone I've talked with there is female. I had some issues with the professionalism of the previous management company that I didn't think too much about even though I didn't like this aspect, but now that I'm working with Seaport, I realize how much better they are than the previous company. I've lived in MANY rentals over the years - at least 10. I've never felt as well-taken-care-of as a tenant as I do with Seaport. read more

Seaport Properties is not just or fair in the way they treat their tenants when closing out the lease. My experience was similar to many reviews I have read since having a large portion of my security deposit withheld unjustly. My family and I were good tenants, always paying our rent on time, and leaving our apartment better than when we found it. We were charged almost $500. to replace a microwave that we installed, replacing an old and original range hood, which was listed on the lease. This was an improvement, as well as other additions and improvements we made, leaving the place better than we found it. The microwave we installed was used, and not in the condition the company and/or the tenant liked. We were charged for the full amount of a new replacement microwave. Of course I complained and clarified the issue. I was asked to show documentation and I referred the company to the lease which clearly read "range hood". Seaport inherited our property from another management company. We never had any issues with the previous company and we took over our lease from another tenant saving the previous company and the landlord a substantial amount of money to list the home and carrying costs. Our move occurred in the middle of the pandemic, communication was not what it could be from the company. We could not do a final walk through and the company did not tour our property with a walk through when they took possession of it from the previous management company. Our deposit was returned months after the professional cleaning service we hired left and we returned the property to the company weeks early, having to pay an extra month's rent, even though they had a tenant moving in that same month. We were flexible in releasing the property. We gave two months notice and allowed Seaport to show the property and have early possession, at our cost. We expected a full refund of our security deposit and should have received it. We would not choose to use this management company in the future and we cannot recommend recommend Seaport Properties. read more

I moved in July and the few things that needed repair were promptly taken care of so I was optimistic. However now that I'm a tenant they don't seem to care at all. I have had no heat in my living room going on two weeks now. I called a couple of times and nicely reported the problem and was assured it would be taken care of but nothing happened. Finally yesterday Emily said she'll call the contractor that maintains the heat. So apparently nothing was done until my 4th phone call. And today, nothing. Roof has been leaking for months. They just keep sending painters to paint the ceiling. Finally ceiling fell (insulation and all) and they still send a painter. Painter said I can't do anything obviously. The roofers finally came after ~1.5 week. They knew of the ceiling and said they would tell seaport. They still haven't fixed it it's been almost 3 wks. We have rented the property on Edison street, Alexandria from this seaport property last year. Our whole experience is nightmare. The property was rented to us as " AS IS" because all appliances are very old and wore out, the yard also wasn't being taking care of and there is no dishwasher. We accept it because of location. First two months of Utilities bills are crazy high especially water bill and water waste bill for some reason. On third month My husband accepted a new job offer in different state so we had to break the lease move out. They told us that we are paying rent and utilities bill until someone rent it. We moved out the property, did super clean out and had it vacant for them show it to people. It took more than two months for us lease it to someone else. In this two months their attitude was very rude and unprofessional because they don't care as long as we keep paying them. The utilities bill was still very high even though nobody live in there. Later my husband found out the property have leaking issue in the toilet. When it comes to our security deposit, they literally scammed all of it. I was almost forced to file a complaint against the owner of the townhouse I rented through Seaport due to Cheryl's lack of response to maintenance issues. It was my "threat" to contact the property owner to inform him of how Cheryl's lack of attention to our maintenance issue would result in HIS legal liability in order to get Cheryl to send the plumber to resolve the water issue. If you are looking to rent, DO NOT RENT a property managed by this company as the owner is incredibly callous and unprofessional. They will allow repair persons (who are not employed by the company) in your home unsupervised and they REQUIRE YOU TO SIGN A TENANT'S HANDBOOK that makes you responsible for costs associated with normal wear and tear (basic cleaning, carpet steaming) upon move out - if you rent through Seaport, YOU ARE AGREEING TO PAY COSTS A TENANT WOULD NOT OTHERWISE BE RESPONSIBLE FOR UNDER VIRGINIA LAW or the laws of most other states (I am a lawyer who has lived all over the country and am licensed in 3 states) - this is a FACT. RENTING WITH SEAPORT WILL COST YOU MONEY UPON MOVE OUT. Of course you are not aware such handbook exists until after you paid your deposit and been approved...and therefore are legally required to sign the lease that references said handbook. Everything outlined in the handbook is incorporated into your lease by reference. BEWARE OF THIS SHADY COMPANY. This company will not promptly address maintenance issues and will repeatedly claim they were never received despite your having written proof and their own electronic system showing the repair request has been submitted. When repair persons are FINALLY sent out, this property manager gives the repair person (who does not work for Seaport Properties) keys to your house and will allow those persons in your home unattended - I have video footage of repair persons bringing their elementary school-aged children and family/friends to my home and wearing shoes throughout the home despite the multiple "no shoes" signs and disposable shoe covers that are readily available at the front door. It seems Seaport uses one independent plumber and one independent electrician - if you have a maintenance issue and her 2 "go-to" people are busy, you'll just have to wait...no matter how urgent your concern is. Seaport does not even make an attempt to call another service provider to address your concern....you will just have to wait in queue until the plumber becomes available to address your concern The owner is downright unprofessional. I never imagined a property manager (a person providing a SERVICE) could be so unprofessional and callous when simply being asked to DO HER JOB. It is as if this lady (Cheryl Monno) hates her life and looks for ways to take her unhappiness out on others. It makes no sense to treat tenants who cause no problems and have never been a second late with rent the way she does when an issue arises. The only upside to my horrific experience with Cheryl Monno and Seaport Properties that this company is so terrible, they forced me into home ownership after 20+ years of happily renting. Think about that - dealing with Seaport Properties/Cheryl Monno for 1 year was so insufferable that I decided to take on the burdens/maintenance of home ownership in fear that I might be so unfortunate as to encounter another property manager like her. Seaport Properties took over the management of our townhouse from another company last spring, after we've already been living here for a few years. It's sometimes tough to tell where the line is between issues with a property, issues with a landlord, and issues with a management company, but switching from one company to another when the property and the landlord haven't changed has given us an idea. We live in an area that has flooded multiple times in the last 2 years during those mega rains. Last year, when we had 3 feet of water in our basement (just like everyone else on our street), we had an insanely difficult time getting the previous company to send anyone out to even look at the situation, much less do anything to take care of it. TWO WEEKS LATER, the company's own 3 man maintenance crew came by to clean up, by using our own bleach. This year, under Seaport management, we have flooded twice, and both times they responded to us immediately. We had a plumber in within an hour, and REAL servpro professionals drying everything out within a day or two, even though one of those time the flooding was much less severe. We haven't bothered them much with too many maintenance requests, but when we have they've been pretty quick to send someone out and take care of the problem (not our previous experience). That being said, we still have a couple issues that aren't really being addressed, and it's tough to know whose fault those are. I've seen another review complaining about treatment while closing out of a lease, but I believe our neighbors (tenants of the same landlord and Seaport customers), who moved out early over frustration with the flooding issue, seemed to be able to get out of their lease pretty quickly without problems. And in our discussions with the company about how leaving might work they seemed pretty reasonable (fingers crossed). As with any rental, I would recommend thoroughly reading your lease before signing. In our case we're responsible for our own gutter cleaning, yard maintenance, pest control, etc. It's the same deal we had with the previous company, but I could see those items catching someone off guard. Finally, in our experience all communications with staff have been swift, professional, and polite. read more

If you value having a safe and functional home as opposed to a slum, STAY AWAY from properties managed by Seaport. This is the 5th management company I have rented from during my 15 years of renting, and I have never seen anything even close to this bad. They would routinely fail to respond to work requests and I needed to remind them multiple times to get simple things done. Without reminders, they would usually forget or ignore the work request all together. Getting Seaport to fix things became a daily task for me. They have just one plumber, one electrician, and one handyman they work with - if those guys are busy, you just have to wait days or weeks. Multiple times, personal belongings were damaged because of negligence on Seaport's part because things weren't fixed. When they did respond to work requests, they would always go the cheapest route. They hire cheap contractors who aren't effective at solving problems. As a result, things don't truly get fixed, and I regularly needed to enter a new request within a few weeks because the problem comes back. Almost everyone who works at Seaport was consistently rude and unhelpful. I was always nervous to call, because I don't want to get snapped at. But if I emailed, they would just ignore my emails, and then I would have to call to get their attention. Dealing with Seaport was the worst experience of my life. Because of them, I left a property that I truly loved, in a location I loved. Constant hassle with Seaport was just too much to handle. read more

I rarely, rarely post negative reviews unless it's repeated instances of awful behavior. Seaport Properties is such the case. My roommate and I moved in during March 2020 (was that an omen? Who knows). Her room was converted into a closet by the previous tenants and they had installed various shelving into the wall. They took them down and patched it over. However, Seaport Properties did not paint over it, so for several months her room was literally patch work. Fine, that's reasonable given the state of the Country/World during that time. Because of COVID we did a walkthrough without management present and documented everything to send to them, including taking photos (it was small stuff like stains on a carpet, cracks in the tile, etc). Over the course of our year long lease we had several issues that either took months to get resolved or were never fixed. This included a glass storm door that wasn't properly secured, a window leak, and a chipped/ cracked toilet lid. The storm door was eventually fixed, the window was not, and they sent someone over to the look at the toilet. This person said it would may be difficult to find a replacement cover but that he could fix the current lid. We never saw this person again (the break happened in August 2020, the person came during the fall, we moved out March 2021). We didn't do a walkthrough with them on move out, lesson learned there. We did have it professionally cleaned and had patched up holes from nails, removed all our stuff, etc. They sent a security deposit that included charges for the toilet lid ($700), garbage disposal removal ($300), among other things. All the charges were exorbitant, but I expected a bit of a convenience markup. It's the fact that they charged us to replace the toilet (toilet also continually ran and drove up our water bill for months before they sent someone out to fix it) that is so egregious. We got back about half back after I pursued mediation through the city (we didn't have a garbage disposal to begin with and it's not mentioned in the lease, so that was returned to us). I wish I'd pursued further legal action but my former roommate is no longer in the area and life became more hectic for me so I dropped it. All in all, don't rent from this business. No matter how cute the place is, the chance that something like this could happen to you is high. Just look at some of the reviews... (I will note that the office staff we interacted with were lovely and provided excelled service) So, Cheryl, while I never completed a review online in order to enter into your $500 raffle, I am finally leaving a review. And shame on you. TLDR: if you rent from them don't expect your security deposit back or any urgency with maintenance. read more

The apartment that I rent is in a perfect location at a really great price. That said, I rented the apartment "as-is" and as one would expect, the condition of the apartment was not great when I first moved in. The landlord was more than amenable to me doing some repairs on the apartment myself, with Seaport Properties promptly reimbursing me for the materials. Seaport Properties' online rental portal is very helpful, with an option to set up reoccurring rent payments, view lease documents and submit maintenance requests. I spent a lot of time trying to decide whether or not to write this, especially since we left the place almost a year ago. We rented a town home in Alexandria. The place had been on the market for a while despite being in a prime location, that should have been our warning that something was a miss. When we rented the house we noticed a smell in the basement, we were told it was musty no worries. When we went to move in the following week the smell was still prevalent and I promptly had carpet cleaners go over there for $300 to re-clean the carpets (supposedly they were cleaned 8 months prior). The carpet cleaner explained that it was cat urine and there was no way to get it out. He did come out again another month later after we had moved in, and redid them again for another $150. I called and e-mailed Cheryl letting her know there was an issue with the carpets in the basement, and she said she would look into it. That day never came. There was animal feces all over laundry area as well. We had a to pay another professional cleaner to come in for $500. So far we were out $950 for this place. The dishwasher never worked properly, I told Cheryl again, someone came out and told us to use an afresh cleaning tab and it will work, it was dirty. No, it didn't work, I had to take it apart, evidently the previous tenants had broken a glass in there and just left it. The washer and dryer were from the late 80's and didn't work, we asked if we could buy our own and offered to sell them to them for half of what we paid ($500 for a set used less than a year), turned us down. Lastly all the doors on the cabinets we had to fix because they kept falling off. The refrigerator went out, and was quickly replaced, which was about the only thing that was dealt with quickly. When we moved out we lost $250 of our security deposit, for not cleaning the oven (which we never used) and not mowing the back weeds (there was no grass, and we had taken the push mower to it less than a week before we moved out) the neighbors had to cut down before we moved in because it was a jungle. read more

Zero professionalism on the phone. Will give you completely incorrect information and call you back saying someone already signed for the unit you just made an appointment to see. Impossible to get in touch with and when you do you'll likely receive information that's less than helpful. I've been renting a townhouse from Seaport in the upper King Street area since 2018. Cheryl and her team have been great; they expedited renovations before I moved in to accommodate my old lease expiration and have promptly resolved three minor maintenance concerns. It's disheartening to read some of the other reviews here that seem to focus on building conditions and not the company's management; many of the properties they manage are older (just like the City) but have great charm and character. Are there a few cracks in the plaster? Yes - it's original from the 1940's and freight trains roll by every hour 100 feet away (but the Metro station is 750 feet away). Would it be nice to open up the kitchen wall? Sure, but it's the only wall for the ductwork that provides modern central air conditioning to 2/3 of the rooms on the first and second floor. All the windows, kitchen appliances, HVAC, and water heater in my home are less than three years old (read: energy efficient), the electrical has been brought up to code with modern circuit breakers and wiring, and the plumbing is well maintained. Oh, and plentiful street parking is $40 PER YEAR for the first car instead of $150+ PER MONTH (with a limit of one car) in a cramped apartment garage in Arlington. read more

After having rented from Seaport Properties for several years (with a perfect account in terms of payment, etc.) and cleaning the apartment to near immaculate condition at the time of moving out, they used the slightest of excuses to decline to return a substantial portion of my security deposit. I think this illustrates how Seaport properties treats its tenants in general; additionally, water seeps into tenants' basement storage spaces, causing mold and damage to possessions stored there, and my complaints about that issue were ignored. There were also issues with water seeping into the bathroom ceiling and causing parts of it to fleck and fall off, which was annoying in general and particularly when one was trying to take a shower. Update to respond to Cheryl's comment: Real talk, Cheryl.. Repair requests were not responded to in a timely manner. When our back door was broken (i.e. wouldn't latch or lock), it took over a month to get it fixed. I don't know if the repair guys are saying they're taking care of things and then not doing it when they say they're doing it, or if you actually think that a month is an acceptable amount of time to wait on having a entry way to one's home repaired. Obviously I was concerned about the security issue. Also, I made a request to have the tile repaired the day it cracked (again, from water damage in the walls.. perhaps because there is no vent in the bathroom) and when the tile fell off of the wall three days later, I sent another email telling you all what had happened and saying that it wasn't bothering me and I didn't know if you wanted to wait until I moved to fix it. I never received a firm response, and we did not have "an agreement". I forgot to mention in my original review that there are tons of cracks in the walls, and we had a problem with house centipedes (if you don't know what they are, give it a Google... They're a real treat!) Cheryl, I would like to personally thank you for responding to my review and not mentioning anything about the creepy repair guy... No "I'll talk to him about being respectful to tenants" or "I'm sorry you felt unsafe around one of our staff". Instead just trying to figure out a way to resolve the situation, you respond by trying to explain away all of the problems that many of the tenants (not just me) had while at Brenton Court. We may have had a "basic" apartment, but we paid over $1600/month. For that much money, I would expect a slightly better apartment or service. Also, if you don't want honest reviews, you shouldn't send out multiple emails to your former tenants requesting reviews on Yelp. Original review: I rented an apartment at Brenton Court on Glendale Ave. in Del Ray through them for two years. The building was built in the 1920's, so it had a lot of cool features, but also had a lot that needed some serious attention. When they fixed stuff, it would be a quick patch that looked like shit most of the time. (The vinyl floor was ugly and had numerous scuffs/rips that were fixed by getting another piece of vinyl and putting it over the rip. Looked awful, needed to be replaced). Tile literally fell off the side of my bathroom wall because of water damage and they didn't repair it before we moved. The kitchen was crazy small and no dishwasher. Radiator heat in the winter, which I usually love, but we had no control over the temperature. They wouldn't turn it on until people started complaining *and* on more than one occasion I could see my breath in the house. Then they would crank it up so high that we would have to open a window or two, and at the end of the month we would have an astronomically high heating bill. No laundry in the building so I had to walk all the way from one end of the block to the other to wash my clothes. The laundry room is like a dungeon... Dust, dirt, cobwebs, dead roaches everywhere. You have to pay w/ coins to do your laundry (not even at a discounted price... More expensive that the laundry mat that used to be down the street), and it seemed like there was always at least one machine that was broken. One of the repair guys was really nice and wonderful and I have nothing bad to say about him (young Hispanic guy). The other one would come over late at night (literally 10pm on one occasion) trying to fix stuff from a maintenance request. His pants were always falling halfway down his ass, and when he was bent over fixing something, you could literally see three inches of his ass crack (goes commando..?) He always made weird, creepy comments to me about my physical appearance and would leer at me, to the point where I wouldn't walk my dog if he was outside. And that guy had access to my house key... Nice. So why did I give two stars instead of one? Because the location is phenomenal. read more

I'm a little disappointed with Seaport Properties. I scheduled an appointment to view a property and the realtor didn't even bother to meet me there. Instead, she left the door open for me to view the place on my own. It would have been really nice to have someone there to answer questions... How are maintenance requests handle? Who do we call for lock outs? Please tell me about the neighborhood. Which utilities are my responsibility? Tell me about the application process. You know, the little questions when you're looking for a new home. I'm a leasing consultant and I value great customer service. I would never send a prospect to a unit on their own. Very unprofessional, not to mention that this made me feel incredibly unimportant. I was genuinely interested in this place but this was obviously a deal breaker. Such a shame because the property is in a great location. Needless to say, instead of visiting this place on my own, I went straight to the office of another condo I viewed and put down my security fee and requested an application. Seaport Properties' actions here lead me to believe that they would have probably been awful landlords. So glad that I'm going with someone else! Update: I wish the owner had responded with some sort of apology below. I would have been more inclined to adjust my review to give some credit for an effort at customer service. read more

I had a wonderful experience initially viewing a rental home in Alexandria where I work as a physician. I placed an application with security deposit the next day. As the mother of a 16-month old, I requested a lead inspection prior to move in. It's an older home built prior to 1978. Even when I offered to pay for the inspection which would be performed in less than 3 days, I was told I needed to sign the lease by that afternoon which made no mention of a contingency plan if hazardous lead levels were identified. Additionally, I was told by Cheryl and her team that if I wanted a lead inspection, they would continue to process applications and even approve them. I had no intention of paying $400 for a lead inspection only to be told at the end of the day that they approved someone else. Seaport Properties made me feel as though I were an annoyance for wanting something so basic and an inspection that EVERY tenant has the right to obtain. read more

My wife and I, lived in the Brawner building, in the 900 block of prince St. Over the course of our two years there we made the choice to become parents and our son spent the first six months of his life there. I had nothing but incredible experiences while dealing with Seaport Properties. A month after we moved in, our fridge went out. I called Cheryl, and the next day we had the repair guy out. It worked for another week then went out again. I emailed Cheryl this time and they arranged Lowe's to deliver a new fridge the next day. If I owned a house I guarantee it would not have happened that fast. The laundry machines in the basement took plastic which was very considerate of them. Considering the building is 80 years old I would expect some bugs, however I could count one one hand the number of bugs I saw while there. Most of the properties they manage are older, so they have radiator heat, single pane windows, and closed floor plans. This should not be a complaint against the property management company, this is the "charm" of living in Old Town. Everything from maintence request to paying rent is done online, which is very convenient. If you have an opportunity to rent from seaport Properties you will not be disappointed. They are great!!!!! read more

This property management company is the WORSE in the area. I rented a condo through this company and, let me tell you it was terrible. They do not care about the tenants and repairs will be placed on the back burner. I went with out heat for 3 months, I continually begged for them to send someone out and was ignored unit after the new year when the first complaint was around thanks giving. Leaving me and my children homeless for the holidays and the property manager Cheryl was very rude and unprofessional about the whole event, After 3 months with out heat her contractors finally came. They used my dishes to catch dirty water and tracked mud on the carpet and left my HVAC closet trashed with drywall and old lunch. I complained about this as well and was brushed off. I'm sure the unit owner would not have been happy to know that this is how his tenant was being treated. FUNNY part is I would have stayed in my unit had it not been for this poor customer service, leaving the landlord to find another tenant and endure some turn over cost. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM OR LET THEM RENT OUT YOUR PROPERTIES, You will be sorry, trust me. She is a thief who steals from her tenants and over charges for repairs. My condo accidently gave me a AC repair turn on bill for $15.00 the same bill I paid seaport $75.00 for. She never paid it and I also had to move out for months due to no AC. Seaport Properties - How her workers left my apartment for (6) days - after waiting on heat for 3 months. - Apartments Near Me - Alexandria, Virginia

I lived at the building at 415 Cameron Street and contemplated breaking my lease the moment I got in. Originally the building was managed by a separate company. With them I dealt with issues with vermin (of which, despite the fact that it was uncomfortable to see vermin big enough to fly... at least the company was very, very compassionate about making sure to spray as often as I requested), so bad at even the exterminator told me the basement was like a "horror movie"..., but nothing major. When Seaport Properties took over in October, I experienced things much more terrible than that including (but not limited to): radiators valves broken so apartment 80+ degrees all winter (even with ALL windows fully open), vermin (this time, the company said their policy was only to spray when exterminator did rest of building... as he had come a week prior, they told me I would need to wait a full new month till I got the place sprayed... this was after we switched companies to Seaport and they had never mentioned the spraying policy had changed), and a huge water leak that left flithy water in my tub, monitoring the ceiling to make sure it didn't "cave in", and a terrible odor in the bathroom to which the Seaport Properties again, just like the valves, told me there was "nothing they could do" and that they would "fix it when I moved out"... If you are looking for a cheap place, solely, then maybe that apartment is good for you. If you value your health and having a company that cares for you: just at least consider all the negative reviews here which seem to site first and foremost problems that the company didn't even have a slightest bit of compassion for and says there is "nothing they can do". There is always something to be done: the issue is, the company does *not* want to keep up their properties and would rather have their tenants suffer without sleep and in mold and vermin ridden conditions read more

I have lived in an apartment managed by Seaport Properties for years and it has always been great. The staff are helpful when I have a question or need anything fixed but more importantly they are really kind people. It's nice to have a great apartment in a great neighborhood but its even better to deal with people who treat you well and take good care of the property. I'd highly recommend doing business with the folks at Seaport Properties! read more
