On June 6 I requested a status update. On June 19 I received an e-mail saying the return is in final review. On June 29 I responded saying I was patiently standing by. On July 2nd I received a response saying it would be at least one more week since the reviewer is out of the office. On July 31 I requested an update. On August 6 I requested an update. On August 13 I requested an update. And today I requested an update. I tried to call the phone number in their signature block (there isn't one listed on their website), and there is no answer. I don't think this firm is still open. I've reached out to new accounting firms to start hiring a new accountant.

I had to introduce myself to my bookkeeper, weeks after I was told who it would be. Weeks would pass, and I'd look up, from my extremely busy business (there's a reason I need a bookkeeper!), and no word from anyone at this firm. I really hate having to babysit adults. That's what I was constantly doing with Clear Accounting. I laid out my discontent to them about lack of communications and output, and said I had 2 reasonable expectations - timely communications and reporting. But then the same thing happened. Since last Dec. I received one report from them - ONE - which they extracted from data they imported from my previous firm, and sputtered around with two different bookkeepers. I left them mid-May 2020, and the firm I went to communicated with me more in 2 days, then Clear Accounting did in 6 mos. That is not an exaggeration. When I asked for a few months refund back, I was told some explanation about how they had worked "X" number of hours on my account.....Yeah, right. They get the autopay setup, and that happens like clockwork. Nothing else about this firm is that way.

Make it count...but in all ways fair. The Mr. of this equation has been seeing Brandon Ferguson for a few years. Before I got married, I had the simplest tax return on Earth: earnings, 401(k), and some donations. We own our home and rental property together, but I always LITERALLY left that to Mr. Ferguson to work out. So this year, I was married (!) and had to be included in all this tax nonsense. I say nonsense, but the truth of the matter is that I'm very familiar with taxes and how they work (stoopid work). Brandon checked in with us on the regular regarding tax paperwork he needed. Just finishing my 2013 return with this firm. The whole experience has been exhausting. Let me…read moresay first that I've had my taxes done, including Schedule C for self-employment, Schedule A itemized deductions, wages/salaries and rental property income for the past 15 years with one preparer in Marysville, WA & one preparer in MD. This has been the worst experience ever. While most tax preparers have new clients sit down to go over your situation and ask questions that will inform their document requests of you, this firm did not do so. Even when I used a preparer before, they would sit down with me each year. As a result, many of the documents that I submitted (organized with spreadsheets) were missed, duplicated or misrepresented on my State and Federal filing. Also note that the tax preparer is NOT located here in WA but in UTAH. The accounting portion of the firm is in Seattle but the tax prep is not. This led to a lot of back and forth only to find out that he doesn't see any of the source documents: they are entered here at the office by non-tax preparers. That's where the first snag came. Many more snags followed which resulted in me going over and putting every deduction and expense into categories on my own separate spreadsheet so that each could be appropriately applied. Overall, I spent about 8 hours of my own time dealing with their mistakes. (This won't be the case this year because I am now using Quick Books). When all was said and done, they did not ever ask if I wanted to e-file or hard file. This was important because I was on a time crunch and was receiving a State refund but owed on Federal. They assumed that a check sent via snail mail from the State was ok by me (why is this EVER ok in anyone's mind? refunds can take 2-3 months). The account info and signature gathering took additional time my husband and I didn't have. Overall, I absolutely would not recommend tax preparation from this company. I cannot speak to their accounting but their categorizing of my expenses on my P&l was wrong so that may be a hint.

He agreed he could do the work and we entered into an agreement mid December. He gave me a list of things he needed from us. The treasurer and I kept him updated on our progress on the things he'd asked for. By mid February we had everything ready for him that he'd requested. He said he'd get to work on our project. By mid March I reached out to him and he said that he wouldn't be able to really work on it until after tax season (end of April) ok no problem. We run fiscal year and not calendar year so that's fine. Beginning of May I reached out to him and he said he'd start working on it the following. Week. Ok. End of May I reached out again and he said he'd been swamped with the tax season but would start the following week. First week of June the treasurer reached out to him to see how things were going and we were told that he was getting started that week and everything would be completed and wrapped up by the end of of June 6/30. Well you can see what the date is and the rating. He didn't ever even start our project despite promising 6 different times he'd start working on it next week. The 6th time I told him no I was terminating our agreement and we'd be going another direction. I can't honestly speak for how he does as a cpa seeing as he didn't do the things he promised. Save yourself the headache and money and just look elsewhere.
