This church has been a blessing & has treated me like family ever since.. I haven't been to many different churches but I have gone to church alone since I was in 6th grade & sang in the choir. I've always loved God but could never find a place that believed what the Father has ministered in my heart until I found new Beginning's I've watched many different churches online & this is the only one in our country that I feel to be true to my spirit. It's not even a large congregation & it's the second church in the country that donates the most to charity. I love God & I highly recommend this church to anyone who wants to go to a real church of Jesus

The church motto: "God is always ready to start over!"…read more New Beginnings Christian Fellowship is led by the Rev Dr. Leslie Braxton, an extraordinary, seminary-educated spiritual leader, with a magnificent gift of real world teaching. I'm from Los Angeles California, where there are many, many black churches. However, NBCF is the church I've always longed for; progressive, intellect-honoring, family values oriented, with a phenomenal choir. As magnificent as the socio-cultural elements of New Beginnings are, nothing beats the spiritual and intellectual sophistication of Dr. Braxton's teachings. NBCF is a very soulful, loving place. Five star recommendation to my church home, in Kent, Washington!

I've been part of this church community for the past three years and have appreciated many aspects…read moreof it: warm people, thoughtful teaching, and a focus on relationships. However, I recently learned that the church holds non-affirming views regarding LGBTQ+ identities and relationships. This was not made clear on the website or in any public-facing materials, which made the discovery especially painful. I witnessed others be hurt by what feels like a bait-and-switch, entering a space that seems welcoming only to later find out they are not fully accepted. Transparency matters and clarity is kindness. While churches are entitled to their theological positions, I believe it is important, out of respect for those seeking a safe and welcoming spiritual home, to clearly communicate those beliefs upfront. That way, people can make informed decisions about whether this is a place where they will be fully accepted and supported. This experience has been disappointing but a great learning opportunity. The pastors did make an effort to talk to me and followed up with some sermons about the matter which I have linked below. Personally, it felt like they were more concerned about avoiding the "homophobic" label than about owning the real harm religion has caused LGBTQ+ folks but that's neither here or there; take a listen and consider the theology for yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93qb9GjVFzA and a sermon made a few weeks after https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_09mZrx447s

I can see its earnest desire to do their best and lead the church with integrity through a challenging year. I've been inspired and impressed with their courage to tackle difficult subjects and to be honest when the answers are hard to come by. It's clear that they have a clear calling from God to his people and to the Eastside in particular. I would encourage anyone looking for a fresh expression of growing in their faith to explore Kalos online and/or in person as they begin meeting in person starting in January 2021.
