My husband and I loved working with Elaine on our wedding ceremony. She's been in this industry a while and it shows! Which meant a lot since we were absolutely clueless. Before we signed anything, we had a quick "get to know you" type call to see if we'd be a good fit and vice versa. After we booked her, she sent over pages and pages and pages of materials for different parts of the ceremony to include and where, readings, a couples questionnaire, and even a guide on how to change your name when all is said and done, if that's your thing. Even though she has a lot of pre-written materials and a template for the ceremony, none of it felt cookie cutter, and I really appreciated the structure of it all. It felt really personalized with our content from the couples questionnaire too. Nothing will come as a surprise either - we got the script beforehand and made little edits here and there. We got so many compliments on how personalized and special our ceremony was! In addition to all of that, she walked us through what happens at each part of the ceremony, who walks in and when, when to hand off your bouquet, etc. We elected not to do a formal rehearsal, so Elaine got to our venue early to coach our wedding party and us before the ceremony began. Throughout it all, my husband and I had the best connection with Elaine and it made our ceremony that much better. Doesn't "travel" for signings. Apparently Seattle is considered travel because she isn't actually IN Seattle. Could have been a quick elimination if she had said that outright instead of after a week of emails when we were setting the time. Just very frustrating to have wasted so much time and now have to reschedule everyone when we're already juggling conflicting work schedules. **And in reply to the comment, my frustration is that the condition wasn't communicated from the start, and there's no way we could assume that a place within Seattle would be an issue - and we could have met in most areas of Seattle. A week of wasted time is still a week of wasted time in trying to coordinate multiple people with different schedules. Would just be good if you put a notice somewhere on your site or mentioned in your first email that this is a condition and that you are somewhere up North. And don't pretend COVID is the issue here, if we were paying for a different service you would travel, and either way it's outside with 4 people in masks and distanced. Again, that is not my issue, it is ONLY the missing communication at the beginning. Don't try to make it into something else. read more

I understand it's wedding season, but you're an officiant.. it's what you do. Book less weddings & you'll treat your future client base with respect. The final straw was our last phone call. She knew of our location which we had discussed thoroughly, but I had a few questions regarding permits for Alki. She seemed to have forgotten everything we had discussed prior to, and although I just needed a little clarity, was instead made to feel like an idiot. Elaine turned very condescending, became very short & extremely defensive & even had the nerve to tell me that I seemed frustrated & if I wanted a full (non-refundable per website) refund she would gladly make that happen. We were only doing a very small elopement & we can only assume that an inquiry for a larger, better paying ceremony came in for the same evening we had already paid for. If you don't want to take the time for a small elopement, you should remove those services from your website. I understand you're in it for the money, but you made the first few moments of wedding planning a heartbreaking experience. It was just myself and my so along with our witnesses, our ceremony was short, sweet and beautiful, I actually created our own ceremony (Elaine provided us with guidelines). Our experience with Elaine was mixed. I hesitate writing this, because I really don't like to complain, but I think it's deserved. We met at a coffee shop to meet and review the process. It was clearly a busy time for her as we were back to back with another appointment and she had trouble remembering our names. She was very helpful in providing lots of information to customize our ceremony and how to change my name after we were married. She also handles the license application which is great. We met with her just about 6 weeks before the wedding and were planning on the elopement package and 2 hours of photography with Jen Sanders. We tried checking in with her in the week prior to the wedding and had a tough time getting a response up until the night before to finalize the ceremony. She expressed how slammed she was. Come the day of the wedding, myself and the bridal party were running about 20-30 minutes late because the roads were blocked for Hemp fest. I heard that Elaine was very verbal in complaining how she had somewhere to be and how rude it was that we were late. Completely understandable, however it was very unprofessional of her to rant and rave to the groom and best man about this. It was so much that my now husband had to be firm with her that she should settle down. She could have just said she had a hard out at whatever time and left it at that. When we arrived, she was curt and made it very clear that we were late and needed to proceed with the first glance and dismissed the fact that I wanted to wait for my mother who was in the following car. She did a good job reciting the ceremony that we wrote, but awkwardly rushed us through the paperwork immediately following the ceremony. She disappeared before I could even give her a card with a tip. I think she might have been there a total of one hour. I guess her family was in town and she was late for a family reunion. All in all she showed up and did what she agreed to, but she surely did not assist in making our day special. She even called the following day to apologize, so she was aware of her unprofessionalism. On the flip side, I'm grateful for the photographer Jen Sanders. She did a phenomenal job and really made us feel comfortable and created some very special memories. Luckily, our wedding day could not be ruined by Elaine's unprofessionalism, but it definitely left a bad taste in our mouths. It was the only part of our wedding day that we look back on and regret hiring her. She made us feel that our small wedding wasn't as important in her schedule and it was more like a business transaction than a joyful event. I hired Elaine for my Aug. 2012 wedding. Although she is a very friendly woman, we were disappointed with her service. After our initial meeting with her, we seemed confident with our choice. But when it came to the big day, she let us down. A few days before our scheduled rehearsal, Elaine contacted us at the last minute for a time change- she wanted to meet us a bit earlier than expected to rehearse. Ok, no biggie. But, when she arrived at the rehearsal, she addressed me (THE BRIDE whom she'd met and talked with several times before) as the 'person from the cake place'. She literally thought I was the baker and didn't realize I was the bride. I quickly corrected her, she apologized profusely. Although I tried to brush it off, I was extremely embarrassed for her and myself. On the day of our wedding, Elaine arrives about 20 minutes before the ceremony time, flustered and apologizing for being late... she 'got lost' (even though she had been to our ceremony site just days before AND had driving and physical directions). That was extremely disappointing. Her remarks during the ceremony were nicely written and we had prior review of them, however guests commented after the wedding that the 'officiant was a bit lengthy and wordy.' At our first meeting, Elaine gave us a folder with an abundance of information from how to apply for a marriage certificate, to how to organize a ceremony, and other wedding-related documents. After our initial meeting we corresponded through email every few weeks up until the week before the wedding, and found Elaine to be very responsive and helpful. But on the day of our wedding, we were a bit let down. At the time the ceremony was supposed to begin (6:00), Elaine was no where to be found. We spent the next 30 minutes frantically trying to make contact with her on her cell phone, pacing around our ceremony location. When we finally made contact, Elaine asked when our wedding was, and then explained that she had made a mistake and had been officiating someone else's 6:00 wedding when she received our call. She literally came running in heels to our ceremony location, and ended up performing a very nice ceremony, where she spoke clearly and loudly, which we really appreciated. Save yourself time and disappointment and look elsewhere for an officiant. Our first meeting with Elaine was fine and it seemed to be a good fit. However our second meeting with her, she had our paperwork stapled to another couples' paperwork and seemed really unorganized and all over the place. She claimed it was because it was wedding season and she had a lot going on. That probably should have been the point when we decided to find someone else. Our wedding location was remote so we gave her the address to the closest place possible to the actual location and we even offered to drive over with her for a rehearsal and she just said she can't drive up there twice. Then she asked us to make sure we had our phones on us after I had told her twice already that we didn't have any reception. On the day of our wedding, after she didn't show up we had to drive back in to town where we could have reception for her to tell us that she had just gotten in a car accident and she was in traffic and she couldn't be there for another hour and a half. With hour in traffic it really only takes an hour and fifteen minutes to get from shoreline to north bend. I have been in accidents before 5 to be precise. It doesn't take more than 2 hours with cops showing up and tow trucks. My entire family didn't believe that she got into a car accident. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt. Regardless, our contract says that if for some reason she is unable to show up, she will send someone else. I am incredibly disappointed in the fact that when she finally showed up two hours later, that she had the nerve to say "there was literally nothing I can do" she didn't even say sorry or offer a refund or anything to help the fact that she ruined our day. She then decided to tell us that this was her second accident in two weeks. Like somehow that would make it all better. I had to pay my photographers and day of coordinator who was setting up our reception extra for the two hours she made us all wait around outside in the cold. I honestly was debating not leaving a review but we ran into her again today and she told us that she had to go to a chiropractor 4x a week now. I understand that if she did actually get in an accident, that is awful for her. But it was as if she wanted to make us feel bad for it. She then stormed off after saying " I'm sorry for ruining your wedding day" in a passive aggressive manner. Again, I never leave reviews but this time I hope to save someone else the stress and anxiety that she has caused for us. I am extremely disappointed that there wasn't a follow up with us with her knowing that she ruined our wedding day. **UPDATED 5/22/17*** Elaine, we understand that your accident gave you physical and/or mental injuries and we are sincerely sorry to hear that. However there were other issues we experienced before and on our wedding day that have not been addressed. It continues to be about your "no fault" accident but you're ignoring your clients additional feedback. Including the fact that we paid full price despite our very negative experience, including extra to our photographers and day-of reception coordinator. This sort of situation would have been much worse if our wedding had not been outside and at a more expensive venue. This is a day we want to move on from and my intention in writing this is just to prevent others from experiencing this negative situation. read more

We review Seattle Wedding Officiants (SWO), who helped us with our elopement to Seattle. Our plans were for a private ceremony, outdoors with an alternative site in case of rain. We also wanted a photographer for a few shots before and after plus the ceremony. During discussion, we added a videographer just for the ceremony. After introductory emails and phone calls, my fiancee' and I flew to Seattle, where we met Elaine. From the beginning, she listened to our ideas, then offered a range of options for solutions. In doing so, she would also inform us about factors which might limit our choices or require additional planning, such as long travel times to some locations we considered as alternative sites in case of poor weather or for extra photos. Elaine knows Seattle quite well, which was a great help. We met over lunch on March 7th, got to know each other a bit, discussed ideas and sketched out a plan of events and locations. We also covered how and when to obtain needed documents. Elaine communicates clearly, offering help where she could save us time and specific about details left up to us. Most of the planning and subsequent discussion was about photography and videography services and finalizing location details. She is an excellent resource for lodging, restaurant and local/area sights too, but reminded us helpfully about flowers, rings... things people sometimes forget. It was great. The initial plan did not change much from our lunch discussion. We were married on March 27th, outdoors in a scenic park on a sunny day. We changed into jeans for a few photos among the trees afterward, then took a private walk and had a picnic together before heading back to the hotel with large smiles. Cons? None. We did not have any problems at all; Seattle Wedding Officiants did the big and small things well for us. Elaine knows Seattle, has an obvious background in the hospitality industry and executes her services with professionalism throughout. She took the initiative when our work schedules back home distracted us, keeping us on task. We found her to be quite personable and liked working with her. We remained in Seattle for our honeymoon, spending 6 days enjoying urban opportunities (and food!) from our waterside hotel, recommended by Elaine - which was really perfect for us. We didn't figure Elaine responsible for the amazing weather we had, but in retrospect...maybe. Haha, great help to us and highly recommended. read more
