The food offered by O'Malley's is really well done, Connemara comfort food. I highly recommend you don't sleep through breakfast. It's entirely farm to table organic, and they source all their fish and crab from the local fishermen in Clifden and Cleggan. This is one of the few hotels or B&Bs in the area that offers real coffee, and they will beat your milk upon request. Hotel offers live music at night and is in the heart of historic downtown Clifden, just steps away from a plethora of ancient ruins, tombs, standing stones, castles and billion dollar views.

After getting warmed up, we moved to one of the quieter tables at the end of the bar (away from the TV) where you can have a cosy space and enjoy the fine food here. Their food suppliers are all local and have been well known for excellent red meat dishes of steak, lamb and pork. They make their own burgers too, with numerous toppings options of bacon, egg or blue cheese. The menu is extensive and every time we're there, we try to choose something different again, but a lot of the mains are a bit pricey in the €15/€16 range for what is pub grub. Its always well prepared though, tastes very good and the blue-cheese, pear and walnut salad I had was nutrition beyond belief. My wife had the 8oz steak with salad and dauphinoise potatoes, the steak just melted in her mouth. She had the potatoes because Chester Beatty do not do proper chips. that's a big let down because they used to do really good chips, now its just crinkly fries which you'd get any day in McDonalds. So, come on Chester, get the chips out again please, but fair play, we got the potatoes instead of the fries at no extra charge. Two pints, 2 wines and our bill was just about €45

When we first arrived at the B&B, we walked into the front door with a gorgeous vase of Lilies that scented the entrance of the home. Our host, Moreen greeted us with a smile and offered to make us some tea while we unpacked. We also had 24 hour access to a cozy sunroom with as much tea and coffee we could drink as well as a small fridge in the dining area. The house is situated at the edge of Galway County, overlooking the Irish Sea. The closed village was less than a half mile walk down the road with a couple of restaurants and pubs to enjoy that serve food late. The bed was very comfortable and I slept so well hearing the sounds of the ocean pour into our room. Many B&B's don't take cards, so remember that when traveling through Ireland. This one did but be sure to pay the night before as sometimes the card machine takes a while to process your card. We paid with cash but I wanted to pass this helpful tip on.

We found ourselves at the Bay View Bed & Breakfast abruptly one evening when our tent was damaged…read moreby gale winds in a nearby campsite. Bridie welcomed us in warmly. She gave us the front bed room on the ground floor as it would be handy for us to go back and forth to our car with our belongings. This was a huge help as we did need to go to the car a bit. The car was packed very hastily in gale force winds, so it was a bit of a mess getting what we needed for our stay. Back to the room, it was so cosy and warm. The radiator was turned up and we soaked up the heat. Per night it was 60 EUR for two of us. Breakfast was grand, it was presented very well. The view is just amazing from this Bed & Breakfast and with the quick changing weather, the view appeared different each time. The location is good too. Left was Clifden, but if you wanted to head north to any number of places you turned right and on your way on the main Westport road. A few negatives with the bathroom though: shower was dark and cramped, water pressure fluctuated and that made the shower head move around, a little eerily at first when you didn't know why it was moving. Also shower did not drain quickly. Cobwebs and dust spotted in there too. But overall it was a good stay and was just what we needed after the camping disaster. I'm glad we ended up at the Bay View Bed & Breakfast.
