This is such a cute independent book shop. They have a little of everything. The Manager was kind and happily assisted us. The shop is located at the foot of Flagler College and a short walk from the historic area and bed and breakfasts. This was a nice little bookshop to peruse on a sleepy, January morning. A bookstore will stop me in my tracks. And this one did. My boyfriend and I are both booknerds, so when we saw a 2nd hand bookstore, we both knew we had to stop in. We had to peruse and spend time within the delicately scented pages that lined the walls. We did purchase from the merchant too! I got a book that tells all the ghost stories of the city and he picked up some post cards to send to folks since this was his first trip to the city. I will certainly come back to patronize this place as long as it's here. read more

Just happened to stumble upon this gem of a place after dining at Maple Street. They have a great collection of books, all of which are offered at reasonable prices. With great amounts of variety, there is something available for every reader. After looking through books for about 15 minutes I came across a Frank Sinatra biography called "The Chairman." I decided to purchase this, in addition to a North By Northwest DVD. The woman working the front desk was incredibly nice. We struck up a conversation about Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart, which really enhanced my experience. If you're a fan of books check this great place out! read more

Tiny book store with amazing prices. Books are anywhere from 90%-20% off label price! Like the name, each book had previous owner and as far as I could tell that just meant someone has read them once. None were damaged or ripped. The lady inside was very helpful and answered every question I had about the town during my trip. An added feature of this store were the first editions and signed books on the very top of the sections! read more

This is without a doubt the best second hand bookshop I have ever been to. The atmosphere is welcoming, the employees (especially Evelyn) are so friendly and helpful and warm. The book selection is extensive and there are actually a ton of relatively new books on super sale. The books are in great condition and the prices are unbeatable. I also loved the local touches of historical St. Augustine books. Easy walk if you park on a side street and close to some great places to grab a bite or something to drink. Came to look for books for my classroom as well as my own children. There was a large selection of books and that were actually fairly new. Both kids were able to find a boom quickly and I found a Roald Dahl collection! Took me back to my childhood seeing those books. The lady behind the counter was so sweet and tried to offer me a book I might enjoy but she couldn't find it. She let me know that if I bring in good condition books I can earn credit towards books from the store. I will definitely be back! read more

It's been seven years since I've been to Second Read books and I still tell people they need to stop there if they visit St. Augustine. I used to sneak off to Second Read about twice a year when I couldn't handle Gainesville for another second, and they always had a stash of Margaret Atwood books that they'd held for when I came back next. I'd buy half of them, insist that I not be not be allowed to buy any more... and come back in two hours and pick up the rest. Very fond memories of hours spent waiting out rainstorms, talking about everything and trying to make the gumball machine obey us. read more

You can easily find this place if wandering the touristy windy streets. If you are looking for a huge chain store, this is not it. This is a small quality mom-and-pop joint with hand picked selections. Not only is this place in a great location but the customer service was top notch and the book suggestions are awesome. Every shelf had books displayed in every possible place which I believe all book stores should do - suggestions are everything and why not utilize the space? When I went to check out, I was shocked to see a sign saying they were a used book store. Everything appears brand spanking new. I wondered why the prices were so cheap. The owners were so helpful and kind to every person who came in. They even spent a good bit of time drawing directions for a tourist. read more

Stopped here while visiting friends in St Augustine.. Nice selection, and everything is in very good condition. Paperbacks are 50% off the cover price, I believe, so you can get a good deal, even compared to buying used online, once you consider the shipping costs. The woman running the store was very helpful- once I had paid for my selection, she wrote the name of another book she thought I would like, that they didn't have in the store just then, on the receipt. So, I always look up local used book stores when I travel. I LOVE a good used book store. But, all are not equal, as any book lover will tell you. This is a little gem, however, and totally worth your time if you like nice trade paperback books of fairly recent popularity and/or an eclectic selection of nonfiction. (They have several other categories but those are the ones that I have "experience" with). And, the owner is lovely! I'm generally one who wants to be "left alone" in a bookstore, which she did, but first she pointed out a few books I might like, and made me feel truly welcome. Even though my visit was ~ 1.5 weeks ago, I am still remembering the experience fondly so I thought-- I should write a good review as opposed to just writing reviews when companies do poorly..... I ended up with several books- one on the owner's suggestion- and will definitely be back if I'm in the area again. read more

My husband and I stopped in this little quaint store on our last day in St Augustine. The lady (I really wish I could remember her name) who was sitting behind the desk was so helpful, sweet, and funny. My husband talked to her for quite a while as I browsed the bookshelves. I ended up finding 3 treasures to give as gifts for my oldest son, mother and father. And the prices were great. We walked out of there with a smile on our face.
