My daughter has been attending drama theater camps offered by Rehoboth Summer Children's Theatre…read morefor many years since she was 5-1/2, she is now 8. She loved the first year and has been excited to go back every year since. During the camp week, the children learn the plays and put on a performance at the end of the week. The younger children go for a half day and the older children go for a full day during the 5 day week. The older and younger kids work together and separately throughout the day. All of the older children have been great role models for the younger kids and have taught my daughter how to help provide motivation to the younger campers. Steve and Karen lead the children through drama exercises during the week, help them learn a play that they will perform on the final day and make props for the performance. All the staff are very patient and kind to the children. Also, during the week, the kids get to see a performance put on by the Rehoboth Summer Children's Theatre group. These are full performances acted out by two individuals. The plays change from year to year and are fun to watch. This year my daughter will try the Film and TV Camp for the first time. It will be an exciting challenge to try something new. I'm sure this camp will be organized and as rewarding as the drama camps. We will be returning for more camps this summer and hopefully for more summers to come!

The cast seemed to have little to no understanding of the characters or the story. Exacerbating this was the awareness that many cast members did not know their lines. Scrooge was a one-dimensional caricature , devoid of any nuance or complexity. The Ghosts of Marley, Christmas Past, Present and Future were equally underwhelming with their appearances oddly comical one moment and overly familiar with Scrooge the next. None of these ghosts were ever chilling particularly Marley and Ghost of the Future. The set design was equally disappointing. A few dark, uninteresting, flimsy flats that appeared that they would fall at any moment as well as blocking the stage view of a large percentage of the audience sitting to the right or left of the stage. The set did little to evoke the spirit of Christmas. The costumes were a mishmash of styles and periods, adding to the overall sense of disarray. Perhaps the most egregious offense was the director's decision to modernize the story. Casting was gender neutral which should add an interesting perspective for the play. It didn't. The time period of the play was, also, adjusted to the 1930's. This as well did not add or enhance the production in any way. Rather these choices served to dilute the power of Dickens' timeless tale.
