    Second Sunday on King Street

What a fun way to shop 'til you drop! A mix of local businesses, both vendor tents & brick-and-mortar, and larger known brands. There is something for everyone here. Highly recommend for a first time Charleston visitor like myself or for a local looking to get a special gift or to show out of towners.

We had no idea that this event was going on as we arrived in Charleston in the late afternoon. Thank god we were able to park in the garage not far from King St, we really got lucky. The road is temporarily closed to cars while this street festival is going on which was great! King Street is a pedestrian walkway for a short period of time and it makes it much more enjoyable. This street has a lot of shops and some restaurants, which I love. We also spotted a street musician or two. There were also a variety of tents set up with various wares. There were tables set up on the sidewalk, we saw a lot of people enjoying their food outdoors. We noticed some stores offering sales as well. We saw SOOOOOOO many dogs and pet lovers. It was great to see everyone enjoying this charming city.

Second Sunday on King Street is a nice opportunity for local area business on King Street, street performers and restaurants to get a boost to their business or funding their college education. It is also a place to showcase your dogs. Yes, dogs are a very important part of this monthly event. Yet, each month something new comes into play like Street Yoga on Market this month. With the streets shut off to car and bike traffic, locals and tourists can mingle on the streets with no interruptions. Perhaps they want to grab a bite or take part in some of the great sales at local stores that day. This is a nice street festival environment in the heart of historic Charleston.

Second Sunday in Charleston is a great opportunity to go downtown and enjoy King Street. You can wander about the stores & restaurants, and people watch. You can even bring your dog. The road is blocked from Calhoun to around Queen street, so there is a large area to check out. I received a reminder on Facebook and found a free 2 hour parking voucher to use at any garage. Great! We headed down around 1pm and parked at the visitors center, walked up King and spent the 2 hours enjoying the weather and surroundings. Some restaurants have outdoor seating in the street, but most restaurants are open and filled with locals and tourists. Along the way there are usually some musical performers, either solo or groups. But the best part is to get out in downtown Charleston and enjoy. Wear your walking shoes!

I love Second Sunday! It is so nice to have King St blocked off for pedestrian use only. We usually grab a bite to eat or hit up Starbucks and then wander in and out of stores. I almost always run into someone I know (usually Yelp friends) which makes it fun too. There is a booth to get a free parking pass on King St or you can print one from home before going. It is good for several of the surrounding garages which is nice for people like me who won't drive around forever just to find a free meter spot.

I'm always a fan of Second Sunday, but it's really just a matter of if I remember which Sunday is the Second one, and if I can motivate the clan to pile in the car and head downtown to walk around. Usually, if Pure Fluff and King of Pops are there, then I can get the kids to go. I usually park in a garage down by the south end of King St and walk up towards Marion Square and back again, which gives me plenty of time to work up an appetite before returning to the Mac Daddy truck for some world famous mac n cheese. The line was too long this Sunday though, so my mac n cheese fix will have to be satisfied another time. I love walking down the street and not having to worry about parking and just being able to enjoy the atmosphere. This time around, there was also a Jewish NOSH festival and we enjoyed some extra entertainment and food. If you haven't done Second Sunday yet, you should try it at least once in your life, and this is the time of year to do it as the weather is perfect and most of the busy summer crowd has gone home :-)

I've lived in the area for approx three years and never made it to second Sunday until now. Second Sunday as you could guess happens every second Sunday of the month. It consist of the city shutting down a large section of King street to allow people and venders to move freely in the street without worry. There were tons of venders selling everything from food to art. Most restaurants on the strip were having special deals on food and drinks. I'm not a big shopper however my gf and her step mom were in heaven as they made me stop at every purse or shoe store. I still had fun enjoying the nice day outside people watching why they did their own thing. It was a neat experience and would go again at the very least to get out of the house.

We really enjoyed walking down King Street today. My girlfriend brought her dogs and itwas a lot of fun. There was definitely a lot to watch as far as music being on the streets and just people everywhere but when it actually came to sitting down and eating there was only a couple of choices. We did sit down and get an appetizer but we really wanted to have lunch and there was just no very Hardy place to have lunch on the streets. So that would be my only negative thing to say was that there should have been more food on the street but other than that it was really awesome and will definitely go back next month

Variety of vendors and good places to eat, dog friendly and live music. We go every year to listen to Zen Mojo Band, they are incredible.

I always love seeing the new artisans, artists, and performers come together and do what they love! The music was great as usual. Garage Cuban Band added a wonderful Cuban flare to the event! They were so good! It made me wish I was eating Cuban food while listening to their mellow vibe. The comedy line ups might have been the most popular event of the night. Before every set there was a line outside the door! Maybe it was because it was freezing outside and people needed warmth, or maybe it was because of hilarious comedians like Jeremy McLellan and Dusty Slay who filled the room with constant laughter. I really enjoyed the self-portrait exhibit. Where anyone could come in, look into a mirror and draw themselves. Although I didn't draw myself, It was really interesting to see how others perceived themselves. Simply becoming designs had some amazing original vintage inspired jewelry! My brother in law was able to buy a unique one of a kind necklace for his girlfriend. The fire pits were such a great idea for such a cold night. Everyone was able to enjoy all of the performances outside while still keeping warm. I always appreciate the Yelp Booth with their fun photo booth and check in swag. One thing I really wish is that they had more food venue options rather than the same ones every time. I know it's a small lot and you can't fit many trucks but it would be cool to have a more options. I also would like to see more places to sit outside. I still really enjoyed this event and will probably be back again!

There are live performances that include dance, music, and comedians throughout the night. They are also occurring in different locations throughout the property. Stages are set-up outside, as well as in some of the private rooms in the jail itself. Live demonstrations take place and you can even join in on some of them. Bring an open mind and heart and you will be surprised at how you are moved by watch you hear and see. The creativity is astounding. This should be on the "don't miss" list!

We went to the Lowcountry Cajun Festival in April 2024. This is a great time of year for festivals…read morein Charleston as it is not incredibly hot yet. It did rain in the days before, so the grass was a little soggy, but nothing that our tennis shoes/sneakers couldn't handle (I don't recommend flip flops). Logistics wise, this is an easy festival- especially if you have a Gold Pass. With your Gold Pass, your car gets in free, so invite friends or bring folks in the biggest van or SUV. A shuttle school bus takes you from the parking area to the festival area, or you can walk. We chose to walk back rather than waiting on the shuttle, and it was a short walk. Once inside the festival, you're responsible for your own food and beverages, but no tickets are needed- just pay at the vendors. There's a kid's area to play on inflatables for $10 with a wristband. The vendors selling crafts and items were all local and had neat items- my husband bought a hat and I got body butter. Food ranged from alligator bites and crawfish for the adventurous to fair food items (funnel cakes) to burgers or ice cream. I had a shrimp po boy, hushpuppies, and lemonade from a food truck, and it hit the spot. Plenty of picnic tables and shade are available for seating, but you can also bring chairs or picnic blankets. Be aware that the food items sell out quickly. I'm giving four stars instead of five for crowds/numbers. The festival needed more potties. The lines (both for food and potties) were long, and I only saw one group of portajohns. We missed the crawfish eating contest, and while the music was good, I didn't know who was playing or which stages. If you have a Charleston County Parks gold pass, the Cajun Festival is a fun way to spend a Spring Saturday in Charleston.

I didn't even get any oysters and I still wasn't upset. Although I had been drinking so that may have lightened my mood. I still had a great time with all the other food and entertainment.
