I think the place is also a residence, but they…read moredo rentals. ***LOCATION*** The location is perfect, right between downtown and the beach, with everything close by - shops, grocery store, restaurants, bike rental down stairs, etc. And it's in a quiet part of the city. It's like a 5-10 minute walk downtown but downtown is pretty loud. This was close enough but just far away to be calm. ***ATMOSPHERE*** The inside is insane! It really feels like a 5 star resort. There are saunas, hot tubs, cold tubs, a zero entry beach-like pool that curves around surrounded by plants. There is a huge space downstairs that is covered and has a kitchen area, seating and hanging chairs. They have a pool on the roof and other amenities. The inside is so nicely decorated and the stairwells have an opening to outside and it's overall just super nice. Inside of the rooms is amazing! We were 3 in a 6 person suite so we paid like 28 USD each per night but had we been 6, the price would have been 14 USD a night per person over a holiday weekend! The room included keypad entry with code, then you open the front door to two more doors directly. One led to a bedroom with full bath and fridge and everything, the other led to a living room with pull out couch, with dining table, couch, full kitchen, a balcony with a private hot tub, bikes, and a half bath, and then off of that room there was a big bedroom with full bath. ***STAFF*** The staff was friendly and they helped us get in right away and everything was very smooth and instructions were simple. ***CONCLUSION*** Will definitely be back next time I'm in Tulum!

We just returned from our fourth trip to Tulum in four years, where we stayed at Posada Luna del…read moreSur, and it was superb! We first stayed here four years ago, (the year after we stayed at an all inclusive; the year after that we stayed at a cabana on the beach), and this year we came back to Posada Luna del Sur. Why? Because this hotel is excellent! It is affordable, safe, and it has everything you need, including air-conditioning, cable television, and an awesome complimentary breakfast (not continental, but full) on the roof top patio, which is very choice. Keep in mind that it is located in town, so we rent bicycles and ride them to the beach along the bike path, which is the only way to do it. Tom, the proprietor is great. He is honest, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area - as he has lived there for years. I recommend this hotel to everyone I know who is headed to Tulum, and I will continue to do so. Definitely give Tom your business, and keep Tulum real! Tom, thank you once again for your hospitality and for the tequila - it was great to see you again!

They usually say good morning and good night to us as we walk by them. don't forget you are in a small town in rural Mexico. If you want opulence and midnight room service, pay the prices down at the beach. If you want an experience of seeing what a small town is like, stay here. Downtown Tulum seems much funner than the beach resorts anyway. more options, more to do. There is some noise in the evening at times dogs bark, roosters crow....with the window shut and the fan on, most of that is shut out. it wasn't cool enough when we were there to sleep with windows open. ProTip: If you are going to the beach, walk toward the ADO bus station and the cabs drop in price by something like 20 peso.....they operate via 'zones' and prices should be fixed. Drives should have a list of stops with prices on it. We pay $110 peso to get to the beach near Ana y Jose (for comparison). The rooms are always clean and don't have a musty odor. The maids do a nice job daily of keeping things clean.....which can also help keep ants away. There are not any 'Do Not Disturb' signs but I am sure you can work something out with Tom. Wifi is not available anywhere but on the top floor.....and only a portion of that. They have recently added a new cell tower in town and this year compared to the last two, we got decent cell service in our room (Verizon). Tom was a gracious host greeting everyone at breakfast as always. He makes sure to answer any questions and can provide suggestions for places to visit and eating establishments (Unico was this years suggestion and it was fabulous). The breakfast has come back! He had gotten rid of the cook to order food last year and decided to bring it back and it was better than ever!! Several options along with Juice, tea and coffee. Tom can help arrange for tours of sites, ruins, etc....and make reservations for you at various places like Cetle--another fantastic place to eat). The last thing I like is that you are away from 'downtown' a bit so you don't get any of the noise from the bars and other things that might run into the night. The town is super safe....we've never felt targeted, unsafe, or like we had to keep our head on a swivel......and we've walked through most of it at some point or another. Feel free to message me if you have any questions about this hotel. I'll give you the straight honest scoop. For the value, this place is great.

I went on a journey to Punta Allen, a fishing village nearby where I ate the most delicious and fresh 5Lb lobster I've ever tasted. Daniela and Jose at the front desk made sure all my needs were met from trying to find out how to get around to making a reservation for the beautiful Cenotes to reserving and getting a taxi! The staff at the restaurant served me well in terms of getting ice or serving and bringing breakfast to my room. The security guards were very friendly and helped me to get one of their bikes to ride around town. Rooms and ambiance- There was no fridge in my room and they are decorated well to match nature and gives you a sense of eco-friendliness. I had a outdoor patio where i would just sit out and enjoy the jungle and being in nature. Very green. Be sure to bring insect spray otherwise you will be left with many bug bites! There is a really nice outdoor pool and it's peaceful. location- quiet enough yet close enough to Centro, Tulum w/ all the shops and restaurants. I even went to a really cool barbershop (Barberos) that was close by and a 5 minute bike ride. Would recommend this hotel to everyone especially those who are more eco friendly conscious and want something unique and not the typical cookie cutter hotel stays!

Small and intimate, all staff was friendly and trustworthy. Front desk was excellent (Ari was the best.) Communication was always open and available for all our needs. The hotel itself is everything you would dream of what Tulum is, earthy and greenery. The hotel pool is heated in which we loved for night swims. For our room: we stayed in the pool suite, we had our own pool (not heated.) There is an indoor and outdoor shower plus an outdoor tub! All were amazing. Food and drinks were excellent. The only thing is that it is about 18 minutes from the hotel/resorts and beach, thus, you have to plan to head out there. However, for my stay I was not looking for a beach adventure everyday so it was perfect. All in all, if you are looking for a relaxing intimate stay I would highly recommend.

You do get charged fully upon check in which was interesting. Nonetheless, they were able to upgrade our room and we were able to check in early. The room was nice. We had great water pressure, room was extremely clean and we were given complimentary water. We headed up to the rooftop pool to grab a bite but they were out of most of food items and the drinks were way too sugary. That was disappointing and so was the view by the pool. The WiFi was also very spotty in the room. For dinner, we drove into the main strip aka downtown Tulum to dine at Parole Tulum and the experience in the downtown area was not fun. There were so many people and the amount of police and National guards that were around was so terrifying. It took us over 40 minutes to get back to Aloft because the police closed the main road and we had to use a different way that had the most pot holes I've ever seen. After a quick reflection, we decided to check out early of Aloft and leave Tulum all together. My spirit wasn't sitting right with the experience and it was time to go. Aloft accommodated the early departure which I truly appreciated.
