Our room did not have AC but they provide a room fan and if the balcony door is open, there is a wonderful sea breeze that cools down the room so well. The maid service was impeccable and the cleaners came every day to make the bed and tidy up. They even swept the sand off the floor and lined our shoes up by the door! It was a nice homey touch. The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but they partner with one right across the street called Tamarinodos. We ate breakfast there, and if you are a guest, they have an "American Breakfast" that is included with your stay. This includes coffee, fresh juice or fruit, potatoes, toast & jam, and eggs any style you want. They do have other options to upgrade to if you would like something else. The restaurant also provides service to the beach if you decide to have a day there! We had excellent guacamole, amazing cocktails and the most gorgeous chicken caesar salad we had ever seen. The front desk staff was so welcoming and kind and helped us with any questions we had. They even arranged a taxi/car service for us on our last day. The location is very close to lots of restaurants and bars so walking anywhere was super easy. I cannot rave anymore about this hotel and highly recommend staying here if you ever decide to visit Tulum!

As a boutique hotel there aren't many rooms, which I loved because they can give each guest individualized attention. The staff makes everyone feel so welcomed and they are easy to get in touch with if you have any concerns. The room was very comfortable and came with organic toiletries and bathrobes. The rooms were a bit dimly lit, but that wasn't a problem at all as you can just open the windows and take in the bright Caribbean sun. The pool and hammocks were great to use and the property also has its own beach which was lovely! The restaurant is also good and right on the beach! You must try the fresh guacamole and margaritas! The location is ideal as it's right across from a convenience store, ATM, and close to the bar and restaurant Mateos, but I'd also recommend going a little more south for other restaurant options. It's also just a short bike ride or taxi over to the ruins! Would love to stay here again if I come back to Tulum!

Normally I'd avoid these high-falutin places like the plague, but we ended up dining here to gain access to the beach (and because we had a diverse group that was getting hangry) and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. If you dine here, order the ceviche. Any kind. It's all fantastic. Seriously some of the better ceviche I've ever had. The salads here are made with sturdy, fresh greens, and not just lettuces but an assortment of interesting greens. It's surprising for this part of the world. In fact, most of the food enjoyed by our group was tasty. It doesn't satisfy my inner need to eat like the locals do, but if you have to please a group of folks and need a clean, accessible place to do it, this is your jam. Protip - they have parking here that's secure and off-street. Stop in for lunch and you'll get to access the beach and enjoy hours of time in the sand. Public beach access (and parking) really doesn't exist on this long strip of beach, so that's a premium feature.

Yoga every morning at 10:30 for $15 and you can rent bikes for $15/day as well. I rode a bike anywhere I needed to go including the ruins. It was a blast! Highly suggest. All that but I won't be staying again. Here's why... When I travel I need a beautiful view. I rented an upstairs room that was ocean view but too many Palm trees blocked the water. That's lame. I'm a tree lover but not at the expense of my water view! The room was clean but super basic. Too basic for the price. (All can be overlooked with a proper view.) There's no kettle or blow dryer so bring your own. The maid was excellent.

You do get charged fully upon check in which was interesting. Nonetheless, they were able to upgrade our room and we were able to check in early. The room was nice. We had great water pressure, room was extremely clean and we were given complimentary water. We headed up to the rooftop pool to grab a bite but they were out of most of food items and the drinks were way too sugary. That was disappointing and so was the view by the pool. The WiFi was also very spotty in the room. For dinner, we drove into the main strip aka downtown Tulum to dine at Parole Tulum and the experience in the downtown area was not fun. There were so many people and the amount of police and National guards that were around was so terrifying. It took us over 40 minutes to get back to Aloft because the police closed the main road and we had to use a different way that had the most pot holes I've ever seen. After a quick reflection, we decided to check out early of Aloft and leave Tulum all together. My spirit wasn't sitting right with the experience and it was time to go. Aloft accommodated the early departure which I truly appreciated.

I did some searching on a travel app and up popped La Conchita at a very reasonable price. And while the reviews were great, I still wasn't sure what to expect since this place was 1/3 the price of other nearby hotels. Well, all I can say is: wow. This adorable, hyperlocal little mini resort is everything we were looking for. It features a cluster of grass-roofed cabanas surrounding a lush, tropical courtyard filled with white Caribbean sand. Every room has an outdoor seating area (some larger than others) so you can enjoy the ocean - which is only steps away as La Conchita is located right on the beach. It was so amazing to be lulled asleep every night by the loud, crashing waves. The property is no frills - there's no on-site spa, bar, or restaurant. But there's a beach club literally right next door which you can order from while enjoying La Conchita's private (and complimentary to guests) palapas and beach mattresses. There are also massages available in the beach area for a reasonable price - we saw many people partaking of them while we were there. Our room itself was big, bright, and comfortable. The bed was luxurious, the bathroom small-but-clean; and the room contained all the basic amenities we could need for our short visit: a small fridge to keep the beers cold, and a Nespresso machine for morning coffee. Our unit (#5) faced the beach directly, and we spent lots of time on our patio, watching the waves crash and the palm trees blow in the breeze. There are also several restaurants and bars lining the street, all within walking distance. Our favorite was Potheads, and elevated coffee shop with delicious food (and espresso, of course). We also dined at the tapas bar next door and it was delicious. They also offer a 10% discount to La Conchita guests for breakfast and dinner. When we left La Conchita we both agreed we can't wait to go back here on our next trip to the area!

We dealt with a non-functional HVAC system (requiring us to empty a dehumidifier every three hours), inconsistent hot water, loose door handles, and a broken safe. The most disappointing part was management's response. While we raised these issues repeatedly, the 'fixes' were either temporary patches or entirely ignored. It is exhausting to spend a luxury vacation acting as your own maintenance coordinator because the hotel fails to address basic room functionality.

This part of Tulum is beautiful, but the hotel does not live up to its luxury marketing and makes…read moremoney by scamming you. We were charged $150 for "minibar" items like small nuts and lotion that were left around the room, despite the worker telling us that only items in the fridge were part of the minibar. They make it seem like basic items are included with the (already expensive) room, and then turn around to charge you exorbitant prices. Certain items are included (the incense around the room and in the bathroom) while others are NOT (the incense on the table), with no clear indications of what is an additional cost. And certainly no price list for the items (which makes sense, since they charged us nearly $50 for a tube of aloe). Aside from profiting off of this miscommunication rather than correcting the issue, the service and basic amenities of the hotel also did not live up to expectations. The room's safe was inoperable and required a technician to come fix it. The de-humidifier was out of maintenance and beeped all night the first day, keeping us up all night. They forgot to include a hairdryer with the room, and then forgot again to bring us one after we called them about it. These issues should not have happened in the first place, and response time to fix them was unacceptable. I would recommend staying in one of the many other beautiful hotels in the hotel zone, not this one.

Full disclosure: I booked two nights of this hotel using points, but the cash equivalent is still very, very reasonable for the accommodations. When I was looking into different hotels to book, I wasn't familiar with the area so it was hard for me to figure out what I wanted. Then I started mapping out all the places I wanted to eat lol and this place was close to a lot of them. Overall, I'm a big fan of the hotel and I really enjoyed my stay. For my particular visit it really fit me well. I'll just list out some pros and cons to give you a better idea. The pros: -Nice looking room with the safe and TV. Basically the basics with a pretty looking veneer. -Location, location, location. If you want to check out a bunch of different popular food spots in the area this place feels close to a lot of them. It's also around the corner from the Super Aki - the grocer/market in town. It's not too far from the bus station either or you could seriously walk down the street around the block where there's a bigger hotel and there are taxis waiting there. It's not too far from the ruins or it's easy access to get out of the area to go to one of the remote cenotes. -Depending on your room, breakfast is included. -very helpful people at the front desk and friendly people working in the hotel -You could rent a scooter or purchase a ruins/ cenote tour directly through them. I was only here for one full day and two nights, so I ended up renting a scooter on my own. I didn't end up visiting the ruins or any cenotes. The scooter worked out to be like $30 US. -mentioned it above, but this place feels like a great value. The price was really cheap relative to what I felt like I got. Cons: -No elevators. Not a huge deal, but I was on the third floor, so I had to lug my luggage up there. -it's a tiny pool. Not very many people use it, but I went out there after a long day to cool off a little bit because it was so hot and humid. -The AC unit in my room. Not sure if it's the same for other rooms, or if I couldn't figure out how to use it, but I kept on thinking that I put it on the lowest setting possible and it was just essentially working like a fan. This is part of the reason why I went down the pool to cool off. And then I took a cold shower before I went to sleep. For me, this wasn't a big deal because I was pretty much out all day, but sometimes it's nice to sleep and really cold rooms. -if you are looking to visit the beaches, then you are more likely to try to book one of the hotels along the beach. It's gonna be a lot more expensive, but if you stay here, you're gonna have to take a car ride down to the beach.
