Not much to see here unless you want a small, quiet beach all to yourself. There is a trail behind the Post that takes you over to Squall Rock which has much better views. Or for a sandy beach with a bit more space, try Orchard Beach instead. read more

I invented this name as there's already a Squantum Point Park but I prefer this semi-secret one. I guess it's not really a park but the coastal area behind the American Legion building where the road to Moon Island becomes restricted for anyone who's not with the police academy or fire academy. Secret Squantum Park has a GREAT view of the Boston skyline - especially at sunset. You can work your way along the small rocky beaches covered in zillions of periwinkles and find yourself looking over calm waters back to the shiny Kubrickesque monolith that is the John Hancock building. There's also good views of UMass, the JFK library and the mysterious Thompson Island. Oh, and if you like skipping stones - THIS IS THE PLACE. I managed 12 skips with one stone. New PB! read more

I really liked this place but the Quincy park department really needs to take better care of it. There was trash and broken beer bottles EVERYWHERE. Sort of sad. Dang kid's these days. If you don't start fires and clean up after yourselves the police wouldn't break up your parties and you could keep going back. Why does no one tell kid's that? Anyways this park is on the small side but it has amazing views with beaches full of sea glass and nice wooded trails. Lot's of fishermen and dog walker's but most of the time I felt like me and my friend were all by ourselves somewhere. I will be back. Oh and this place has two different names. Google maps called it Nickerson Beach/Chapel Hill and I found a plaque on thee site that called it Squaw Rock Park. So the mystery continues.... read more

This is one of my favorite haunts in Quincy. I love the history (there is a monument commemorating the Indian guide Squanto), the privacy, the beautiful view of Boston.... If I can't make it to the beach in the summer I come here to get some sun. Love walking through the trails and seeing the interesting things that grow here (wild lillies!). One of my favorites about this place is that there is a long sand bar that connects this park to Thompson Island. It's supposedly a private Boston Harbor Island that is open to the public on Sundays. So, on Sundays only, when timed correctly, I walk out to Thompson Island, where you can catch a ferry to other Boston Harbor Islands. I haven't gotten stuck on Thompson yet! Breathtaking view of Boston....grass, trees, wildflower, bay, rock, a truly magnificent landscape. I do see litter here and would love to see this place better maintained, but still 5 stars. read more

I grew up in Squantum and have spent hundreds of hours at squaw rock..there used to be a small quarry in the middle that has since evaporated. I remember back in the 50's there were 2 houses built on poles on the cove of squaw rock. the cement tower was called the "grease pot" and the set of rocks in squantum bay was called "rat island". I never crossed over to thompson's island at low tide, the current was still too swift and I was always afraid of getting stuck overnight there. The rock monment of Squanto was in much better shape back then and should really be repaired. I was there last July and it is really being overrun by the weeds, to the point where it is hard to get to squaw rock, which I always climb to the top. I remember going to squaw rock with my father and digging up a white birch tree and taking it home and planting it in our front yard. there are still white birch trees there but overgrown with weeds. My father used to take long walks all across squaw rock and once saw the infamous Whitey Bulger walking along the rocky beach going out towards the grease pit. Whitey's girlfriend lived on aberdeen road i think. I have been all over the world during my life and my heart still comes back to squaw rock. You have to go there in the early morning, about 7 am, the peace and quiet, the water will most likely be like glass, and the salt air will take your breath away. Make sure you take away shale rocks and place them somewhere in your home to remind you of your visit. When I die I have told my children to spread some of my ashes atop squaw rock, my final resting place. Dickie Courtney read more

I moved to squantum 19 years ago. I found squaw rock park on a walk with my 3 year old son at the time. I fell in love with it and my son wanted to go there any time we where out side playing. This place is truly a hidden pleasure for me and my son. It is my favorite place . I would recommend going there at sunset. read more

AKA Nickerson Beach, Squaw Point Park. The view is outstanding, there aren't many people here, the water's very quiet, and at low tide you can walk out to Thompson Island. But the trash, oh man the trash. It's like you're at a landfill, but on the Harbor (hearkening back to the good old days perhaps?). Beer bottles, beer cans, snack wrappers, condom packets, broken chairs, there's even an area where someone is clearly living in the rock. It's too bad, because this is a really great place to watch the sun set over the city and enjoy some quiet. read more

I grew up in squantum during the 50s and 60s, leaving in 1965 for the service. I did not realize how luck I was to have grown up in such a beachside community. You take it for granted until you start traveling the world. I cannot believe the prices of housing in squantum, as it was and probably still is a blue collar community. I lived on winslow road and hung out behind the school during the summer, playing cards. I used to go to "grease pot" almost everyday and spent alot of time at squaw rock, right where this kid is talking about. when i was growning up there were actually houses built on stiltsby the cove, right below the american legion post. I also remember guided missles being installed at squaw rock, right where the VFW post is now. My name is Richard Courtney, nicknamed "dickie". I miss squantum more than I can say. My cousin lives on crabtree and my best friend lives on parke ave. sure wish I had the insight to buy property there years ago. If I ever win the lottery I would buy the house owned by Freddy Foye, right on the water by peterson's rock, where I used to fish for mackeral with my cousin billy back in the day, and then sell them to the squantum fish market, right across the street from squantum school. read more
